rooksoto738yI'm thankful for the living technology has provided for my family. Before I learned to code, I literally went through a period of homelessness. And even though I'm not a full-time developer yet, the skills I have picked up have led to many opportunities, where there were none before. So yeah... Thanks!
Happy Holidays, everyone. -
viking817408yOo I want :)
The thing about technology that I love and can be thankful for, is that it keeps me on my toes.
There is so much progress in our field to keep in touch with, and if you are paying attention it will break you out of your little comfort zone and extend your skillset. Not just languages, but mostly approaches.
It's not important to use the latest and greatest, but find what changes between js frameworks, programming languages, patterns and solutions in a way more distributed system's world. -
Lolacfc58yI'm thankful for technology for giving me a job I love, great hobbies and bringing my husband and I together. 2016 was a tough one, but we'll get through.

One thing about technology I'm most thankful for?
Remote start on automobiles! Where I live, we have cold winters. It was -10 degrees Fahrenheit this morning (-23 degrees Celsius)... so I'm loving my warm car!
And you can give the stressball to someone else. Just wanted to share my gratitude to some automotive engineer somewhere that made my car warm! -
One thing about technology that I am thankful for is it has given me the ability to have a career that I love doing. No matter how frustrating a project or client may be, I can't see myself doing anything else but being a programmer.
-
I'm most thankful to those early pioneers who invented the first home computers; the ZX machines, the Commodore machines, the BBC and all the others. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't have taught myself coding back in the 80's and most probably wouldn't be doing the job I still love now (most of the time anyhow).
-
Defi4NT14938yI love technology because it pretty much pulled me from a world I didn't wanted to be a part of into something I can relate to, I always laugh internally when people tell me I spend to much time behind a screen "it's not reality! ", thank for the advice, go back to your smartphone to post some useless stuff on the social media of your choosing and piss off
I know reality far better than you, and I choose to spend this amount of time, fuck your reality, fuck your "normality"
But I also hate the way it's used and abused by the masses and the few, today every idiot with Internet access can post irrelevant advices, pretend to be a geopolitical analyst because they read a blog about elections in <insert random country here>, that drive me insane, and the few are even worse, making us dumber and dumber through advertising and marketing, media entertainment....
Starve your ego people, we're nothing
Fuck your reality. -
nothing28yI'm most thankful that technology has allowed me to pursue interests and passions I might not have been able to otherwise. I've recently gotten interested in learning Latin dancing, and thanks to technology I can learn a lot simply from online videos and classes, instead of having to spend considerably more on private classes. Of course, in this and a lot of cases, it's still vital to have a real life component, but technology helps me fill in the gaps and be at least someone autonomous in my learning.
-
DotM8298yI'm thankful for the fact that it gives us so much freedom to do things: we can talk to the people we care about, we can meet new people, we can play, alone or with friends, we can create, we can destroy, we can make it our way to make a living; we can pretty much do what we want, if we know how to do it, and teach those who don't know how to use them.
-
setleaf2748yI guess I'm most thankful for technology's ability to keep me connected with my family regardless of where I may be in the world.
A few button clicks and I'm looking at my wife's/parent's face even though I'm hundreds of miles away. -
I'm just grateful that technology has created a relative abundance of resources. I, unlike most people in history, (and sadly, many people today) don't have to worry about where my next meal is coming from
-
Drastic32088yI am thankful to technology because it keeps me and my family fed and taken care of, while at the same time letting me pursue what I really want to do.
Programming is not just any work for me. It is my greatest mentor, and the only friend who will be with me till the very end. -
I'm thankful for devRants image compressing technology that did not ruin the quality of the above photo.
-
tamashii388yI'm thankful for technology for giving me my career and my favorite hobby, and the opportunity to create cool, impactful things with awesome people.

Being able to travel the world and working at the same time. Everyday a new view in a new country if you like, and still finishing projects to earn some money. Amazing if you think about it. :)

yusijs12508yJavascript frameworks.
Yes I'm thankful for it - whenever something new comes out, people strive to improve on it! -
jamiek945308yI love JavaScript MVC frameworks because it makes front-end work less shit to work with.

Hello there. Here is some background, first. As for developing, this year was not that great for me but it was alright enough. Just had a lot of falling back yet again moments. As for personal life, it's been though. I'm someone who can take a lot, and with that I mean a lot, but the moment someone starts to fuck with people close to me that I love and I legally cannot do anything about it and about literally just have to just watch it happen, I'm starting to go towards my very limits. I can't go into details legally but someone (or, two someone's) made sure that someone I love dearly, had to stop the work he loved the most in his life and just push them aside like they were garbage to the extend that they got close to ending up on the street due to the simple fact of running out of money (nearly). Although I'd do everything to help them out, I'm just a student next to having a business with my best mate and I can just take care of myself.

I am thankful for technology because it has provided me a humbling experience that keeps me occupied and fed.
Thanks also for this awesome web app! -
@linuxxx
[2/2]. Anyways, they've both got stable jobs now and everything seems to be working out but oh man, the amounts of stress this year...
For me personally, next to usually feeling pretty shit about myself (not much self worth etc), this year I've got an internship that actually values me a lot. Although I've had my problems, it's getting better.
Yes, i know this is said a lot, but thank you so much, @dfox and @trogus for creating this awesome place i use daily and of course, all the amazing people on here, for making my days and especially the ones I was nearly through all my limits, for creating this awesome place where I feel I can go for distraction, to have a laugh and to chat (read comment) around with fellow devs! I feel at home here.
But yeah, this is my story. A lot of people here probably have had a lot to go through as well so keep your head up peoples!
I just had a free stress ball so you can give it to someone who really wants it :).
All the good, devRant! -
What I love about technology is that through open source, we can make sure that sharing also happens online, instead of only irl. (My opinion)
-
leny4528yBeing able to share little pieces of code that will improve other peoples' workflow or tasks ; and being able to work from anywhere, with anyone, with code as language.
-
What I love about technology? The sense of community you get with other techies :). Forever alone is a myth now, even for introverts.
Just wanted to say this, to add my 2 cents. I don't honestly expect you to mail a devie ball to Kenya :D. -
I'm thankful that I have access to most of the world's knowledge. I find this a big thing to stand for and we need to defend it by all means. We shouldn't allow it to get polluted with manipulation, distraction and simply fake or untruthful content.
-
daniwithd268yI love all the resources available online to learn whatever you want as long as you have the motivation
-
I'm thankful that technology enables us to improve our standard of living. Without it, we'd be living in the Dark Ages.
-
I'm thankful for technology because it showed me a world where I fit in. Had a very rough time getting through school, and now that I'm a uni student doing CS, I finally fit in. I finally have friends. I can finally hang out, and talk about things we love. Also enabled me to get a part time coding job, which I love. I'm sure I'll be enjoying doing work I love in the future as well... :)
-
Senk6088yI love the community, the amount of work you can save thanks to a fellow dev who had the same problem as you, I can't thank enough
-
Congratulations to

Please send me your addresses to tisaconundrum@gmail.com and I'll begin the process of sending out your Devie ball :)
Thank you all for participating! You're all awesome, and I can't wait to see what amazing things you rant about next. -
@Haxk20 Thanks! I'll be sending my address in the morning when I'm actually awake haha
-
@thmnmlst if not everyone gets their addresses in to me, I'll give you the squishy ball 😉😂😂
-
@thmnmlst I gotcha buddy, make sure to check your email for me. I want to make sure I don't mess up anything
-
I sent you an email form to fill out for me, so I could send it to you properly.
@linuxxx -
@tisaconundrum Hmm, can't find that anywhere... I guess resending etc isn't an option anymore? I sent you an email that day with all the details but oh well, my bad
-
@linuxxx awesome sauce, I'll get your squishy ball out when i get that email :)

Hello fellow devRanters.
It's that time of year where we celebrate the holidays, and give thanks to each other.
This year has been a tough one. And for many people, life can be snide and harsh; the fact that such a community like this exists is a testament to that. But despite all this we continue to uplift each other through our hardships.
As a way of thanks for such a great community I'd like to give away a few Devie balls (:/ ) to some people.
I'll pick a few people at random, at around this time tomorrow, in the comment sections that would like to have a little devie ball.
In order to partake in this, I'd like you to tell me one thing about technology that you're most thankful for.
