Student approaches recruitment table
Student points to cheap pen giveaway
Student stares at me
Student maintains eye contact until I uncomfortably ask "Can I help you?"
Student: "I like your pens"
(Awkward pause. I expected him to introduce himself or ask for a pen)
Me: "Uh, would you like one?"
(Student nods vigorously, says nothing)
Me: "here you go"
(Student walks away wordlessly)

Hello fellow devRanters.
It's that time of year where we celebrate the holidays, and give thanks to each other.
This year has been a tough one. And for many people, life can be snide and harsh; the fact that such a community like this exists is a testament to that. But despite all this we continue to uplift each other through our hardships.
As a way of thanks for such a great community I'd like to give away a few Devie balls (:/ ) to some people.
I'll pick a few people at random, at around this time tomorrow, in the comment sections that would like to have a little devie ball.
In order to partake in this, I'd like you to tell me one thing about technology that you're most thankful for.

I have a 6 month license on PyCharm Professional Edition.
I don't think I'll be learning Python anytime soon, so if anyone wants to use it, go ahead and redeem it.

PS: Would be nice if you could comment that you used it, so that other people know that it's gone.29 -
Good morning everyone^^
I just heard my company is doinig some weird shit.
1. We RECOMMEND doing backups on a USB stick (our customers get a cheap giveaway when they purchase our products).
2. We sell farm controllers with less power than a fucking arduino as "Top Notch technology". (single core 1Mhz, 128MB RAM)
We Devs are not supposed to understand this logic. We shall only "make it faster". If proper solutions are suggested it gets shrugged off as "expensive".17 -
Hey. I have some steam keys I don't want, and I don't really have any friends to give them away to, so. Here you go!
I'll post them in the comments below.
Only redeem them if you actually want the game, and if you've used one please comment or upvote to let others know! Be kind, don't be greedy, honor system, etc. etc.26 -
So this happened. Thanks for the stickers! It's pretty amazing y'all giveaway free stickers.
Keep being awesome! @dfox
I'll post some in action later. ;)

Oh my god! Using Twilio js I sent a message to my sister telling her that her favorite YouTuber was doing some giveaway and that she won 1000 dollars, she was so happy and then she clicked the link to a blank page saying April fool's. I feel so accomplished

Inspired by @COD4's rant here: https://devrant.com/rants/3080528, I decided to go overboard a bit and catalogue (almost) all my unused Humble Bundle keys.
Given that there was well in excess of 300 of them I decided a more structured distribution mechanism was needed.
If you want to see if any are interesting for you, check the repository here: https://github.com/kwilliams1987/...
I have 5 more months of Humble Monthly to do still but need a break now...14 -
Anyone want a free Python, PHP, or Assembly book?
Well how about all 3???

I hate my tablet...
It is a giveaway from my sister and it is a bit damaged. It's unresponsive on a straight line from the one side on the middle of the screen to the other.
It's an old tablet, so it has not much memory and it lags a lot, especially during app updates.
To "work" with it, I have to switch from landscape to portrait mode and vice versa, because many apps put dialogs exactly in the middle of the screen, on the unresponsive part.
But what I hate most about this situation is that there are apps that are locked on portrait mode and I can't access them... It wouldn't hurt much if all apps could rotate from one mode to the other!!!
I'm on limited funds for quite a while, so I'm stuck with it for now. Meh... ☹4 -
giveaway = u'free'

Is there a hidden joke in the fact that stand up meetings/daily stand-ups share the same word root with stand up comedy? It would seem the creators of that pointless activity thought it naughty/mischievous, if not a humorous giveaway that those gatherings are more for fun, entertainment, a joke, and a platform for product managers to not feel left out from the development process5

I was rendering a video, when my buddy called me, and asked for help for youtube chat bot for fidget spinner giveaway
Now we are both running it...1 -
A prime example of bad UX from the guys at Ubisoft.
They have this 30-day giveaway up to Christmas and it's terrible.
1. They are giving away posters and shit wallpapers in the lowest resolutions, like really, how long would it have taken to export that shit in 4K? Also, that is a cheap as fuck move. You are Ubisoft, give away some games, for fucks sake! Not shit posters in a resolution so low that I can't use it for wallpaper or print it.
2. When you enter the site you don't have a fucking login button! You have to guess that you have to click a number and then it prompts you to login. Also, why the fuck can't you sustain my login from yestersay?
I anyone wants to see this mess it's over at https://30days.ubi.com1 -
Alright boys.. calling in my networking friends for help..
Recently switched my ISP and got a fibre optic installed (100Mbps).
Thr ISP provided a new TP-Link router which supports 5GHz as well as 2.4GHz.
Some of my devices support 5GHz and connect to that network which works flawlessly.
However, my phone does not support 5GHz and hence, have to connect on 2.4GHz.
Somehow, the main router as well as the access point, are not functioning well for 2.4GHz. Whenever the connection is established, it would work fine for a minute or two before the networks starts disconnecting.
Restart the device Wi-Fi and it works for few moments and the cycle repeats.
I am not sure of what is causing this issue.
For the records, the access point is an old D-Link router. Why I mention this? Because funnily whenever the access point cable is plugged into the main router and I login to the router, the system logs me into the access point router (D-Link instead of TP-Link).
Can someone please help me resolve this issue?
Fun fact: The D-Link was a giveaway by one of my dR friends @Bigus-Dickus5 -

How is the weekend going?

So I go to a GDG for VRView tonight, and generally had a great time. I arrived on time, got set up, crushed the coding exercise, and helped a couple of people out with their code.
As is standard procedure with these kinds of events, there was a giveaway at the end - a sealed Daydream View. The guy running the event picked the winner randomly. I was #6, due to the fact that a guy came in literally 20 minutes before we wrapped. Guess who won the VR set? Yep, the dude who came in late, and sat immediately to my right, making him person #5. I'm pretty sure the words "greifer" and "twatwaffle" ran through my head as I packed up to leave. -_- -
HIRE A CERTIFIED CRYPTOCURRENCY RECOVERY EXPERT // CONSULT RAPID DIGITAL RECOVERY
Losing a secured cryptocurrency to a scam was one of the most devastating experiences of my life, but thanks to RAPID DIGITAL RECOVERY, I was able to recover everything I lost. It all started when I fell victim to what seemed like a legitimate “free token giveaway.” The website looked incredibly professional, filled with fake endorsements, clean visuals, and a seamless user interface that made the process feel completely trustworthy. I connected my wallet and approved what appeared to be a standard transaction. Within seconds, I watched in disbelief as \$8,000 disappeared from my account. It was an immediate and painful realization I had been scammed. The panic that followed was overwhelming. I felt helpless, angry, and embarrassed. I began searching online for anyone who could help, and that’s when I came across RAPID DIGITAL RECOVERY. I reached out without much expectation, assuming the chances of recovering stolen crypto were slim to none. To my surprise, they responded quickly and professionally. Their team immediately got to work and reassured me that they would do everything possible to assist. RAPID DIGITAL RECOVERY launched a full-scale investigation, using blockchain forensics to trace the stolen assets. They followed the funds across wallets and exchanges, identifying the scammer’s activity and tracking the flow of transactions. Their attention to detail and knowledge of how crypto scams work was impressive. They were transparent throughout the process, kept me updated at every step, and never overpromised. Still, they delivered results beyond anything I hoped for. Their persistence paid off. Through their efforts, they were able to locate the stolen assets, coordinate with the proper channels, and freeze the scammer’s accounts. The most incredible part? I recovered 100% of my stolen funds. Every dollar that was taken from me was returned. I never thought that would be possible, but they made it happen. What stood out the most was not just their technical expertise, but their empathy and commitment to helping people who have been victimized. I’m Sarah K, a retired English teacher at Maplewood High School. For most of my life, I dedicated myself to teaching young minds, helping them shape their futures through literature and language. But nothing could have prepared me for the experience that would shake me to my core losing 17 BTC to a fake Elon Musk giveaway. It all started innocently enough. After retiring, I found myself looking for ways to supplement my savings, which had dwindled after years on a teacher’s pension. I had heard about cryptocurrency from a few friends and read a few articles, but I didn’t fully understand it. That’s when I stumbled across a post online that seemed too good to ignore. A promotion claiming that Elon Musk was giving away Bitcoin as part of a special event. The ad looked professional, the message was convincing, and the link seemed legitimate. I thought it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. After all, Elon Musk had made so much noise around Bitcoin. It seemed like the real deal. The offer promised that anyone who sent Bitcoin to a specific address would receive double the amount back. My excitement got the best of me. I thought to myself, If I send a little, maybe I’ll get a return to help me enjoy my retirement more. So, I sent the Bitcoin, 17 BTC in total, to the address provided. But when nothing happened when I received no confirmation and the website went dark I knew something was wrong. I tried reaching out, but all my messages went unanswered. It became clear that I had been scammed. The emotional toll was immediate. I felt foolish, devastated, and completely exposed. My savings were tied up in that cryptocurrency, and suddenly, I was left with nothing. The financial loss was hard enough to handle, but the emotional weight of it was even worse. I questioned everything: my judgment, my understanding of online investments, and the very security I once felt in my own knowledge and experience. That’s when I turned to Digital Tech Guard Recovery for help. Their psychologists first stabilized my trauma, offering support as I processed the shock. Then their engineers took over, analyzing the on-chain data to track the scam’s digital footprint. Thanks to their expertise, Digital Tech Guard Recovery helped me recover all 17 BTC. While the ordeal was painful, I’m grateful for the help I received. It taught me valuable lessons, and now I’m passionate about sharing my story to warn others. I never want anyone to feel the way I did, reach out to Digital Tech Guard Recovery if fallen victim to cryptocurrency scam.2 -
Stop asking me if I want to play rugby or other sports for that matter! I'm a coder and I've never been known for playing sports, my lack of shoulders should be a giveaway. I cant image I've ever been picked for a sports team. Oh but I'll code my shit out of any situation so guess I'll make a sports game / app. Fuck off.4

BEST CRYPTO RECOVERY SERVICE -CONTACT FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER
On election day in 2024, I was eagerly following up on the results in my home in Texas, refreshing my feed for updates on X, when I stumbled upon a tweet that would change everything. I never imagined that a single tweet could upend my life until I fell victim to a sophisticated SHIB giveaway scam masquerading as an Elon Musk promotion on X. The post, from a seemingly verified account, promised a “limited-time offer” to send 50 million SHIB tokens to anyone who verified their wallet with 10 million SHIB. As a crypto enthusiast, I prided myself on being cautious, but the allure of quick gains and the polished impersonation of Musk’s profile clouded my judgment. I sent the tokens, only to realize minutes later that the account was a nefarious clone. My stomach dropped I’d just lost $15,000.The days that followed were filled with regret and panic. I reported the scam to social media platforms and local authorities, but the decentralized nature of crypto transactions left me feeling utterly despondent. That’s when I discovered FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER , a cybersecurity firm specializing in blockchain forensics and asset recovery. Desperate and anxious, I reached out to FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER , unsure if my funds could ever be traced. Within hours, the dedicated team at FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER sprang into action. Their social media forensics experts meticulously analyzed the fraudulent Elon Musk account, uncovering ties to a Singapore-based fraud ring operating a network of cloned celebrity profiles. They elucidated how these scammers exploited verified badges and viral content to appear legitimate. Meanwhile, the adept blockchain analysts at FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER began tracing my SHIB tokens across decentralized exchanges (DEXs), identifying liquidity pools where the stolen funds had been funneled. The process was transparent and methodical. collaborated with FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER liquidity providers and exchange platforms to freeze portions of the scammer’s assets, leveraging legal frameworks and real-time data tracking. After two tense weeks, FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER successfully recovered 8.2 million SHIB tokens 80% of my initial loss While I’d hoped for a full recovery, reclaiming $12,000 in a landscape where most victims get nothing felt miraculous. Today, I’m sharing my story to warn others. Scammers are evolving, but so are the heroes fighting them. FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER provided me not just financial restitution but invaluable peace of mind.2 -
You ever try to get some cool dev swag? Stickers, t-shirts, maybe a notebook that makes you feel like a real hacker while you’re just writing TODO lists? Yeah, good luck.
First, you gotta jump through a thousand hoops. "Complete this 5-hour coding challenge!" "Sign up for our newsletter, then confirm via email, then sacrifice a goat under the next full moon!" And the worst part? Some of these companies ghost you harder than a bad Tinder date.
Google Cloud Arcade? Completed 10 challenges. No swag.
Hacktoberfest? Contributed to open-source. Shirt never arrived.
Random Twitter giveaway? Retweeted, liked, followed, tagged three friends. Crickets.
But the moment you don’t want swag? BAM—your mailbox is drowning in random recruiter postcards from companies you've never heard of.
And let’s talk about those "exclusive" ambassador programs. They dangle swag in front of you like a carrot, but guess what? The only people who get in are LinkedIn influencers who say "🚀 Keep learning! Stay hungry! Stay foolish!" 50 times a day.
At this point, I’d rather just pay $5 for a sticker pack than deal with all this nonsense. But no, these companies make it seem like getting a free T-shirt is harder than getting a job at FAANG.
Just give me my damn stickers!1 -
