!rant

Today it happened.

My devRant rewrite crashed for the first time in about 3-4 months.

I believe I have created a safer and stabler devRant, even though it’s literally in alpha.

DAMN.

    Wait, the official one, or you "clone"? Because my I don't recall devRant crashing on my phone
  • 2
    Same, devRant never crashed for me.

    @SoldierOfCode @Hazarth You don’t use iOS or have a modern iOS device.
  • 3
    Never crashed for me but hey, if it crashes at least that tells us that you actively and dedicatedly work on it

    @SoldierOfCode the clone I am building rn.

    @frogstair I already have the general idea of why this happened. You see, I just implemented comment link support (mentions and URLs), and the moment a comment tries to manifest itself (lazy-load), it needs to check in the metadata if any links are present and what their offset are in the text. Now, dfox made this part so fucking tricky because the metadata can have mismatches that I just have no idea how to take into account! Sometimes the offsets are perfect, sometimes they are completely borked. Something probably got out of range when I tried to create the bold attributed text (text with special properties) and crashed and died.

    @bagfox oh, I have Android

    @Ranchonyx I the last weeks have been extremely quiet in terms of development because I was so busy with the javascript shit that I wasn’t free to work on the project but now I am almost done with it and I can start allowing myself to work on it some more!

    @bagfox it does crash once in a while on a modern iOS device, too (iPhone 12 here)

    @bagfox no, ofc not, why would I do that to myself ;)
  • 1
    @Hazarth Becuase both systems have their advantages and disadvantages and neither is better than the other ;)
  • 1
    @bagfox yeah, the advantage of iOS is that masochists also have something to pick from on the market.
  • 2
    @Hazarth interestingly I don’t find myself masochistic enough to switch back to Anroid. iOS is just painless (in my experience), just the way I want my everyday use phone to be. Time may change my perception, who knows tho...

    @100110111 by once in a while you mean every so often?
  • 0
    @fckIE no not really. Haven’t been really keeping track, but doesn’t even happen daily (and I’m here quite a lot during most days)

    @100110111
