Getting super demotivated looking at job postings on both indeed and glassdoor - they all seem like the same generic bullshit of maintaining some website... does anyone have suggestions of how to find companies that are building exciting products that aren't dinosaurs?

Ah, but the real money comes from the jobs that no one actually wants to do.

I suspect that genuinely exciting software tasks are in the minority. Most of it is coding up some tedious form, or exposing yet another REST endpoint.

Bro, it's covid season. You can literally apply to a job across the globe and they will allow remote work. Don't limit your range to your area. Apply anywhere and everyone you want. Even if they only want people from the area, if they like you enough, they'll overlook such requirements.

Take advantage of this time. It's once in a lifetime!!

If earning money is your priority, try freelancing while you're hunting your job, helps a tonn
You won't have time to be demotivated xD

@SidzZy where do you recommend? I've always seen those platforms as wastes of time, soooo many contacts and talks, but nothing like a contract or job ever comes out of them

Search for "greenfield" dev. There's plenty of companies out there building cool new stuff, but they're often hard to find amongst the crap.
