I got back from my holiday, back to work, and have spent 20 minutes of every hour at work waiting for my laptop to build while I navigate this “codebase” to put a teeny feature change in. A one liner.
Honestly everything about this makes me want to cry.1 -
Proud to say 19 hours straight.
My uni has a infamous course work assignment which took about 27 hours to train on the lab PCs.
The issue was we only had a week to do it. So you had to code it, then run it and make it run first time to have a good time.
As we all know, that’s not realistic and I remember staying up the entire time to make sure I had sufficient time to train it. Was a nightmare but got a good grade.2 -
I decided to withdraw my application from Amazon cause it was so stressful. Got a call from my recruiter berating me telling me I fucked it up for everyone.
God willing, I get black listed on LinkedIn7 -
Thanks for the advice on my previous rant. Had the conversation and I’ll be looking for a new job.2

At my first big boy job at a start up with only 50 users, we noticed we had cloud cost spikes about 20x larger than we were expecting. I remember spending all night debugging it, checking the requests as they go through.
The culprit? Someone left an async on a UseEffect with a variable that was regularly updated as a parameter.
In other words: every time a request was fired, the variable would change… so the function would sense the variable changed and fire it again, and so on.
Felt like a total hero. -
Performance Review: You’ve slowed down.
My head: I never get to code cause all we do is meetings. Like no shit I have slowed down. Why the fuck do we have 3 days just full of meetings that I don’t even contribute to ?! I’m not gonna do overtime for this shit
Me (actually): Ah, shucks! Guess we can work on that huh?32 -
I’ve been earmarked for promotion but I plan on quitting right after it. Be honest with me: how important are titles compared to YoE7

companies really be having hiring practices like google but the works literally just servicenow ticket writing for an offshore team.1

Added a new feature. Saw no traffic. Removed it thinking no one liked it. Receive a bunch of angry emails.
I forgot to tag shit properly. FML. -
Got a complaint from users of my project. It’s finally happened: people give a shit to tell me I’m doing a bad job. Let’s fucking gooooo3

Mentor: “Hey, have you checked the Figma for the designs?”
Me: “What’s Figma?”
Mentor: “Figma nuts in your mouth”
I loved him. I will die for him.5 -
People be like: “We don’t use comments cause good code should explain itself”
Then proceed to use complicated app architectures with classes all over the place.
Fuck.7 -
Finally finished the model deployment and it fuckin works!!!
belle bouteille viens ici que j’te caresse ~~~ -
I started turning up here cause I find it very relieving to rant about my problems and know that people are indeed listening. bless y’all.

So close to closing out this ticket only to be told “we have to start again cause of red tape”
Just end me. -
I think I’ve gone backwards in terms of my progress from my start up app idea. Ah well. We go again.4

I went to a Java community conference for the first time and I honestly nearly teared up. It’s been a few years since I’ve actually seen actual hard core engineering with real considerations on memory etc. I felt like all I do all day is get blocked by red tape when I do my job.
God, it felt refreshing to see the reason I got into programming still exists.2
