I think a good programmer would recognize that the glass being the size it is, yet currently in a half empty state, means that the ALSO has a full state. Shrinking the glass size is most likely not a great idea, considering it could be filled up in the future.

A great programmer would then either make the glass automatically scale up when pouring more fluid into it as soon as it is at or near the full state, implement some kind of overflow exception catching mechanism (such as a serving tray, or even just a sink), or make sure that poured fluids are validated against the container (such as disallowing refills at anything but an empty state, and a tap with a dosing valve configured for the cup size).

An amazing programmer would realize that cups & bottles are too much effort, and drink straight from the rum cask.
