I'm planning to make my portfolio with a blog and CMS thingy. I was about to use WP. Any thoughts? Better alternatives?

@loserboi your own 10 fingers. As a developer you are doing yourself a disservice creating your portfolio with monkey script.

Its a potential employers second impression of you, and if you think thier tech lead is NOT going to view your source code, you are sadly mistaken. At previous companies I was responsible at times for reviewing potential, portfolio url is the very first thing I look for on a CV,past experience, skills, matrix, all that shut is meaningless. I get 90% of what I need from your own source code and sites performance.

Many developers I know recreate thier portfolios quite regularly, it's a reasonably simple and fast project to us to test out new tech, often design does not change, as that's not what employers look for in a dev.

Keep your portfolio simple and to the point, if possible keep much if the data behind an api so that rebuilding with the next tech is easy. Code for the job you want.

Unfortunately I'm in a position where I have no choice but to use WordPress for this project. I have another project that I was originally going to use WordPress for (this is my first time experiencing it) but now I've opted to create my own CMS which honestly seems easier than trying to manipulate WordPress to my needs.
