I fucked up again.

Someone needed a flashdrive for a presentation. Forgot that I keep personal code on on of them for backups (it's always nice when there is no reception to have an offline copy of my code, for instance when we go out into the bush or to remote areas).

I gave them my flashdrive. Forgot it had the code on.

Now someone at head office has taken my program, claimed it as their own - and has just earned themselves a decent amount of money (praised in the monthly company newsletter).

My program has been stolen (by my own stupidity) and butchered. It has been made into something that it was never intended to be.

Fuck that guy.

The thief took the risk for you. If you have ideas, for the good of us all take risks.

Went to HR, Head Office, the SEO, our director about the code. Showed them my repo, my commit history, my hard work and even a few messages that I had told my brother about the code that I am writing (sent him snippets).

HR and director of my company laughed at me and told me, "you could never have written that". The director called me a little shit.

Head office's SEO has taken to my cause, seen the code, and is calling in legal action. He has basically told me that he will represent me, and this is fucking bullshit - he is not going to let this bastard off with just a warning. "it's assholes like this who take the hard work of people as yourself, and then just fuck it up. I will pay for your legal fees, fuck I will even buy the app."

    Thank goodness.

Some people just have no integrity, sorry to hear that man.

This is just another reason I encrypt everything: my hard drive, USB's, etc. People cannot be trusted.

@inpothet our HR is so fucking useless, I hope so too.

I laid a grivience and was told that I can't do that because, "you know, and I know that nothing is going to happen. I value my job, and if you do too, you'll shut up". Bitch.

@mak420 why on earth would you Push to Company vcs? That is literally giving it away 🤔
  • 1
@eldamir probably used github or similar for vcs, not the company one

@mak420 What we learned from Silicon Valley: Never use company inventiry for private development ;)
