Making coffee

I've now got an electric coffee grinder at the office and I regularly make some specialty coffee with a V60 here

Soon I will be known as «the coffee guy»

    @Ranchonyx insert "wide thing errape"
  • 1
    what grinder do you have?
  • 2
    @theKarlisK would be awesome tho.

    btw a part of me wants to gut one of these automatic coffee machines and make it chainsaw powered. Using the heat and the drive.
    I'm pretty shure I'll never really execute or even properly plan this but the itch is there

    @theKarlisK Well the V8 engine makes it taste like tomato juice mixed with motor oil.
  • 1
    @Demolishun is this bad?
  • 1
    @Ranchonyx I usually make an entire can, dont worry theres enough for all of us

    @coffeeholic At work I have a wilfa svart aroma, at home I use a Baratza Sette 270 since I now have a gaggia new classic as well (yes I went overboard with it)

    There is NO greater guy than THE COFFEE GUY!

    (I am the coffee girl…I buy Peet’s in quantities of 5 lbs or more…for just myself.)
  • 1
    @EvanMarie 5 pounds jesus christ

    I made the mistake of ordering 1kg (2.2lbs) when buying my espresso machine and ive been consuming so little that I worry some of the beans will loose their flavor until I get to them

    @LotsOfCaffeine Two pots a day keeps the shakes away...

    @LotsOfCaffeine

    Do you need help? I am so very much here for you. You never need to worry. Together, we got this espresso under control!

    @LotsOfCaffeine

    PS - I literally bought 15 lbs of coffee today at Costco. I got the limit on Peet’s. That’s 6 weeks worth for me. Coffee, half and half, and protein bars are basically all I’m made up of.

    @EvanMarie so, stimulants?
  • 2
    @iiii funny how you miswrite blood substitute

    And I have an porlex here. Manual.

    I don't like most of the electrical stuff as cleaning is annoying as hell.

    Regarding coffee makers.

    UHM.

    Okay. Let's just say that I have a lot.

    Love the ChemEx/AeroPress.

    @IntrusionCM I found manual grinders to just take way too long

    when I make coffee in the office I usually do 50g of coffee and that just takes forever to grind manually

    Hell my electric one needs like 35 seconds or so
  • 1
    @LotsOfCaffeine Yeah. If you make cans of coffee, that's definitely long.

    I only make coffee for myself.

    Not buying large quantities either.

    Mostly 250 g packs... From all over the world, preferring export trades who directly trade with the farmers.

    For me it became less quantity more quality and discovering all the crazy stuff that's out there.
  • 1
    @IntrusionCM I only buy 250g packs as well, at home I make only small quantities (either espresso or aeropress)

    but in the office I often make one full can for the entire day and I share some of it with my colleagues too
  • 1
    @LotsOfCaffeine sharing is something I don't like to do with good coffee.

    ... Watching someone pumping tons of sugar and other stupid stuff in a coffee mug is a thing I cannot bare to watch.

    I might get violent.
  • 3
    @IntrusionCM oh all my colleagues have deep respect for it, haven't seen anyone using sugar or milk so far

    One time one guy cleaned his cup out before purring in the coffee I made
  • 1
    @LotsOfCaffeine That's great.

    Milk or heavy cream is ok with me - it can bring out as a fat supplier a lot of otherwise subtle tastes.

    Just nothing in the category of sugar, flavours, marshmallows or other stuff ...

    @LotsOfCaffeine this is realy respetfull.

    I have an Aeropress and a Picopresso, but I'm only the occasional drinker. Still, I want these occasions to be a good experience with specialty coffee.
  • 2
    @LotsOfCaffeine wow those are nice ones for home use. gaggia classic is an evergreen. did you change parts / mod it?
  • 1
    @iiii Honestly, I’m already too high energy. It’s mainly for the headaches and the sheer joy of coffee life. So yeah, probs just stimulants.
  • 1
    @coffeeholic oh I only got it recently
    And honestly I'm not very good at making espresso yet
    Still wanna get a vst basket and a proper tamper as well, but the space in my kitchen is getting limited

    @LotsOfCaffeine some easy mods I did:
    - precision shower screen
    - brass shower screen holder (for better heat retention)
    - 9 bar spring replacement

    and yes there are other ones like: https://github.com/Zer0-bit/... which I am planning to do on a second unit

    @coffeeholic slapping a microcontroller onto it sounds interesting but I doubt I'll do anything in that regard
