Dev: why should I develop windows phone apps. Almost nobody uses this kind of shit.

Customer: Why should I use a fucking windows phone. The windows app store is as empty as a ghost town.

It's Microsofts fault in the end. They need to specifically hire devs to make apps for their store. That includes Windows exclusives and multi-plats. You can't blame devs for nothing wanting to produce apps for a market of 10 people.

Though I admit the tiles layout is more useful than it gets credited for, on handheld devices that is.

And that's why it didn't succeed, there is no advantage. It's a solid OS for the things a smartphone is supposed to do, and if i had to switch back to WP, it would not hurt me, because it can do all the important things and does them well.

Well there is one:
Accessing the phones memory and sd card via usb works perfect in wp and is really fucked on all androids I've seen so far.

@CWins This is only a pain if you want to connect your android device to a MacBook for data transfer. You have to use androidfiletransfer and this is really horrible because it will automatically open anytime you plug your device into the MacBook and there is no option to stop androidfiletransfer from doing so.

Otherwise it works like charm it is just a configuration issue for the first time.

I had windows phone a year ago then i bought an android and I think windows phone is better . Most apps on the play store are fake or useless .

When I lost my old Android, I decided to give WP a try because I liked the design. Couldn't count the times I wished I didn't do so. So many times this system bugged me out. Can't list them, but I remember every day there was something new I hated WP for. Two most reminiscent ones: System updates took like 3 hours (Android rom flash maybe a minute) and the background task handling was just horrible. I open a link in an app, go back from browser just seconds later and the app was destroyed already without anything else open in background. Not every time, but in like 80% of all cases.

I tried it on win7, 8,8.1,10 with Samsung, Huawei and Motorola devices. Sometimes the mass storage was not found, or freezes when copying a file or the device connects and disconnects all the time or requires extra software and so and so.

Usually i would think it's bad luck or just my fault if it didn't work at first time, but after spending all this time with different versions, manufacturers, devices, PCs, i find it hard to believe that it usually works fine.

2. It depends also on the cable you use for it
3. You are right, android devices don't like multiple operations on it during file transfer (ongoing file transfer / deleting other data on the device / copy and paste next data during transfer etc)

VS is amazing, specially with xamarin, there is allmost no existence reason for the ugly apple languages, or java when its about mobile app development

@Salmakis native programming is where apps become beautiful and adorable to use because you have full access to the full power of native libraries.

Don't like that half baked Xamarin stuff at all. What if you want to customize your app to get a unique appearance on it so people would enjoy using it? With xamarin or other cross platform solutions? No way.

Btw, swift and (recently) kotlin are far away from being ugly programming languages.

They are modern, easy to read and effective programming languages.

Agreed that Swift and Kotlin are pretty pretty (hah). Java is sorta gross though... Also I have yet to try vs for more than a level in a platformer so I can't super weigh in on that.

@sperator im not sure with that, lets take devrant as example, its a nice simple apo that does its Job, looks quite same on android and ios, no special use of any so special native Features... Ofc there are projects and apps that are better made with native stuff, but the most games are made with stuff like unity and such, and the most nornal apps are not really using so special unique Features

The app gap is still not good enough reason to switch to android. Let's be honest, the best i could afford is a new mid range (lowest part of the mid spectrum) or a bit beeter older android phone. That segment belongs to WP regarding quality. That is as it should be. There is absolutely no need for overpriced handheld devices besides prestige, but that is a whole different topic.
Such a shame...
And btw, as i've seen on screenshots of android users, WM version of devRant looks much nicer

@Jop- i don't see how i'm being disrespectful :) let's break down my comment : In lower priced segment, microsoft has made better devices in general. Of course that anyone would much rather have a high end phone, i just said that having one is more a matter of prestige than anything else. I want a high end phone too, but i can't afford it, the best i could do is take a ~200€ phone, and for that money i would much rather take a windows phone

@sperator About Android File Transfer, there is a solution... Have to dig it out though... But when I used it after I got pissed off by that "feature", worked like a charm

Windows mobile user here, nothing special about it but I'm hooked.
