    Bro, if it's their first time using Git, send them a Git & Github course to watch. They there to learn from you, I assume.

    Can’t blame him, sometimes mess it up myself when in a rush

    Guys you don't understand the problem. "Tried everything" should always include typing the instruction into Google. This is the most basic principle of problem solving in the 21′st century.

    I'm surprised as well but this apparently still requires explaining. Notably, people with shit grades tend to be better at finding information they weren't given in my experience. I think we need to fix our schools a bit.

    Tell me you’re joking
  • 2
    @lorentz you’re definitely right
  • 1
    @lorentz yes, less focus on what is in my pants and more focus on what is in my head.

    @rantsauce they have a degree in computer science. I'm not even joking

    @green-portal I wish I was joking

    @origin-of-fire give them the paper bag challenge.

    If they’re willing to learn, teach them.

    The measure of a man is not what they know, but how much they’re willing to learn.
  • 1
    @lorentz

    The unhealthy focus on sexuality rather than learning skills.

    Can they code their way out of a paper bag?

    psh degree, ppl dont learn basics at 'fancy' cool-age

    but uh...i almost always copy the link from the address bar. so im not sure if you mean not 'git clone' or ?
  • 3
    @kaki ... now that you say that

    why are all these fuks giving out 'coding test' with stupid ass shit like fizzbuzz.

    just say - hey before we interview, here's a repo: clone, compile and run (some obfucated code) and give me the results. maybe throw git submodule bs in as another barrier so they dont just dl every file or something stupid?

    @zlice Actually a great idea, I think I'll recommend following a convoluted but complete project setup document as hiring criteria.
  • 1
    To be fair, it's annoying GitHub doesn't include the 'git clone' part in the copied URL... everyone else does it! (Perhaps the one thing that atlassian does right, hehe)
  • 2
    @fullstackclown Because it can be pasted into a GUI git client as well.

    @lorentz I'd argue that the root of the problem here is the lack of understanding what a terminal is. They demonstrated that they don't have a clue what else a terminal is used for, other than cloning git repos. They were so clueless that they were way too far from knowing how to ask the correct question.
  • 0
    @electrineer And that's when you type "clone git repo" into Google.
  • 2
    @lorentz maybe they don't know what any of those three words mean
  • 2
    @lorentz call me a 🤡, but I'm a terminal man through and through
  • 0
    @electrineer Google doesn't need your understanding to work.
  • 2
    @lorentz well you can't type a word if you have never heard or seen it

    They have a degree in compsci and never used git? that's suspicious, We used git in Uni (granted, a lot of people were very confused by it. but they learned). What even are schools anymore.
  • 0
    This made me laugh so much.
  • 1
    @fullstackclown When someone would ask me this, I would install Fork and use that :P
  • 3
    @Hazarth In uni, we learned OOP with Cincom Smalltalk and I only barely remember something resembling a version history graph built into the VisualWorks IDE. Don't think git was ever covered outside of optional seminars.

    @Hazarth

    think this is explains a good bit https://youtube.com/watch/...

    don't really agree with all of it though. he sounds like he isn't all that technical and just wants to make basic apps. maybe focuses should be more precise. but it is a money making machine. and the first 1/2 or 2/3 are all just high skool over again. then a year of basics bs that covers squat. then MAYBE something semi useful

    Also applicable to India seniors

    That would be funny if it wasn’t so disturbing.

    I am so sorry!
