We've built a web app and now a client wants a VPN acces to the database of web app. When asked why, they said they want to occasionally pull some data out. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

We said no, and this is what they wrote:
"We’ve got live VPN access to every other web database we work with – why is this different?"

Well because maybe we know that we can build you an export of whatever you want, prepare you API calls for getting data to your CRM, but hell I'm not giving you access to the production DB.

We occasionally get similar requests and we never allow it.

I'd love to say our pms had enough bollocks to say no to requests like these... I'd love to say that

Worst case, if you can't stop them... Read only user to specifically whitelisted tables

I once asked Google to give me access to their db I wanted to pull exam samples from their search results cuz I want them offline with me.

@bottswana is the only one that gets it. The client only needs read only access to pull some data, stop being so dramatic about it. ๐Ÿ˜•
