What use is a MacBook?
Cause all it is is an overpriced laptop, that has the basic functionality and features that a regular and cheaper laptop has.
My friend and I concluded that all it's used for is to say you HAD $1000.

If you don't do iOS apps and on the move you don't need it.
An 800$ macmini will do the job

@nifty let's not forget that it is also glued together.

That said I had a ASUS republic of gaming laptop that cost me $1200, I benchmarked it against the $2400 MacBook Pro. MacBook got a 10000 on the test with a clean install and running nothing but the benchmark. My Asus did 6500 while I had 15 tabs open in Firefox, a visual studio window open, a program running to find the first billion prime numbers, and a continual list of useless processes that windows claimed were "drivers" but I know they were mind control devices. So for half the price I got > half the performance. Sadly though, the Asus was not aircraft grade aluminum.

I'll be honest I thought this until I bought one, 8 years later it still runs everything pretty much perfectly, the boot time is slower than it used to be but the amount of shit that laptop has been through, yet still runs like a dream. They really are built to last. Never in a million years will I buy a mac desktop but for laptop's I wouldn't buy anything else.

If money is an issue, don't buy a MacBook?

I think the 1000$ I HAD would be spent on beer anyways.

@erik404 If I had $1000 right now I'd either spend it on coffee over time or buy parts for my computer.
Or just buy an HP laptop.
    Something like that.

For a laptop, I go more for the total package that any benchmark. Went from a Lenovo y50 to a MacBook Pro 13” Mid 2014. Never going back on the laptop-side. UNIX-based OS, great screen, great keyboard and great trackpad. Shit, I even put an SSD in a MacBook Pro 15” mid 2010 and OSX ran smoother on it than my collegues new 1400$ HPs

Hey! Hey, guys! Not that shit again!

Let people use whatever the fuck they want!

As long as it's pure arch linux with only vim and a C compiler on it.

    @dontPanic Okay, that's funny.
I should've said I respect anything anybody uses, and that I'm just not a personal fan of Apple.

But again, good job keeping the mood up.

While I will never buy one they gave me a retina 2015 at work and it runs great and has lots of battery life.
