To all dutch people on here, the new surveillance law I ranted about a month or something ago has passed if my source is correct.

Passed as in, the government has voted in favor.

Time to start encrypting/vpn'ing/torring and securing your computers!

@linuxxx I asked you some time ago which country you recommend for vpn (always used NL but that's gone now) - maybe Romania?

@ThoughtfulDev I'd say either some country with no laws on loggin (like the Sychelles (however the fuck one spells that), Romania possibly, Panama I thought and you've gotta do a little research on that one :))

@ThoughtfulDev I'd take a shared server VPN provider. With loads of users it's harder to pinpoint specifc users :)

I personally use trust.zone
it's small, compact, cheap, and really secure.

@iSwimInTheC Thanks for the suggestion! I think someone else already suggested it but forgot about it so thanks! Their downloads section disappoints me though... 'Select Trus.Zone VPN manager for your OS'. Windows is the only OS listed there. Well fuck that.

@runfrodorun The only good part about this voting is that a few politicians were so fucking criticizing about this law and asking very specific questions that the ministers who want to get this law through got very nervous and tried to push it through as fast as possible!

So should I stop downloading torrents now? It was never a problem before.. or is the law about something completely different?

@PRein It's a general mass surveillance law but they're going to start crackdowns on torrenters soon as well anyways I thought so I'd HIGHLY recommend a VPN!

Thx for the mention. I hope the piratenpartij get enough votes with there referendum. When I have enough income that's probably next month(switching work) I'm planning to get a VPN at trust.zone. I was the one who suggested it :)

Looking into the current vpn comparison, it seems like the best vpn is BlackVPN. [just 5€ per month starting price without: UK+US Servers] (and "BolehVPN" but that one doesn't look like anything serious to me when visiting their site, nor have I ever heard anything about it)

I used following filter:

Eyes: No
Enemy: No
Logs traffic: No
Logs Timestamps: No
Logs Bandwidth: No
Logs IP Address: No

Trust.zone gets filtered because of "Logs Bandwidth", besides that is similar to BlackVPN.

@hash-table PIA is setup in the US, they did have officially documented tries of officials trying to get any information and failing, but its still a thing to consider and def. a flag to look out for.

@hash-table They also have their openvpn files downloadable, so no need to actually use any package outside openvpn itself - used them bit over 7 months ago, but I don't think that changed?

@hash-table the aur package just downloads Openvpn and the configs and puts them in etc/Openvpn/Pia.. Which I did manually

Also, I'm using NordVPN, and I'm quite satisfied. Easy to use, and has support for every major Linux distribution as well (AFAIK)

For all the ones torrenting out there, Switzerland has pretty relaxed laws as long as you "just" download and use it privately. However note, that we have a mass surveilance law as of 1th of september this year.

@Wack France still seems to give 0 fucks about anyones torrenting, the hosters even offer full one-click seedbox images.
