was devrant way more visited during those good ol' covid days? i can't help but feel like i see a maximum of 100 people around now... feels weird to me, probably feels normal to those who have been here longer

curious what happened, maybe just the insane users remaining scared off all the plebs

I'm pretty sure the peak popularity was somewhere in 2017 or 2018 but I might be wrong.

Platforms change over time, the nice thing about this one is that while the numbers are in flux, it's always been enough to maintain a core, active user base.

    I agree with @AlmondSauce & @electrineer

Back in 2017 & 2018 we had way more activity than now, post quality was better and not ranting about co-workers throwing silly bugs and/or bitching about everything

I do understand this is a "ranting" platform but there is a way to present your issue, I still enjoy reading top rants, that's a completely different quality, things used to be presented in a way that makes you enjoy reading it and it wasn't TL;DR it was summary without missing anything

It became a bar with standard guests. Green dots don't seem to stay. If a green dot posts a meme I know he won't be back

@retoor I find a lot of green dots don't really understand what the platform is for, and so get put off when their "hahaha I've just been spending 20 days debugging a missing semicolon!" jokes aren't exactly well received.

    It's a good filter :-)

@Nanos a green dot is a new user that doesn't have his avatar created yet

@ostream a circle is a group of dots that are a certain length (radius) apart from another dot, so it's not that either.

@ostream not every dot is a circle but every circle is a dot. So green dot

Nope. It's just this community is simply the best of the best, the worlds most elite sit-down-stand-up-desk-comedians. Masters of code & observability patterns of comedy. If the bar was lower we'd be overrun with those who give us our best material.

Bloody hell, we're debating the literal correctness of "green dot" now? It's a colloquialism that's been used here for *years*. It's fine. You might as well argue that a ballpark figure makes zero sense unless it's actually in a ballpark.

@AlmondSauce I think they don't realize they cannot really game devrant like other platforms. They have to work:

@Nanos wow, really want to know dem platform

@Nanos don't worry, I read your lengthy posts. I'm not lazy
  • 2
@retoor you lie. No one reads them. The people who answer him have sent them to chatgpt for a response.

@Nanos in my headcanon, everyone who vanishes off the internet simply ceased to exist.

Its a never ending stream of virtual funerals.

    I’m here

    @nanobot dear god, hes alive!

@Wisecrack I have a hunch that if I stop working on dev jobs, I’ll live way longer, maybe forever.

I haven’t been around much the past year or so. I’m just so burned out. And too burned out to escape it.

    I miss this place.
