Ah I get it.. you’re asking what kind of MacBook! Well I like the little 13”.. handy to take everywhere
-
I bought myself the Lenovo Yoga 720 15". It has not arrived yet but it looks very promising...
-
Any laptop with good specs (and trustworthy brand) I'd say for web devs the minimum would be 8gb ram, a current / last generation processor and an ssd (for them databases)
-
@JulienZ may as well buy one of those Xiaomi Mi Air notebooks that has an actual GPU instead of the Intel meme GPU and use the other half of the money you were going to spend of that iToy in something else
-
I'm a Mobile Dev, currently at the company I use an HP Omen, but my boss wants every Dev to have a MacBook (so we can test Android and iOS). Still waiting for my Mac to arrive 😛
-
@LMestre14 hey, if the boss is the one paying for it even I would accept it and later on you can sell your used toy it to an iDrone for a quarter of a kidney
-
Orionss28977yI got an HP Elitebook with my school, and it's very powerful.
Forget the fact that we stand it on the charging bus so the battery is now less than 2hr and we have a shitty quadri - boot but the laptop itself is very clean, light and powerful -
If you're a web develeoper focus on low weight and high res screen.
Otherwise focus on specs.
I use an ASUS 14 inch screen laptop, Intel i7 3.90GHz 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD, weighs about 1.8 kg. Installed Manjaro on it.
It costs about 1000 USD. -
Ederbit7387yI have a lenovo y700. Gaming Laptop, good Specs, excellent Speakers.
Downside is it's a little heavy.
I don't know why but it's always a few hundred bucks off. So good Price for Performance Ratio. Nowadays you might get a better Laptop for around 1k though
Ps: I also don't like apple. -
Depends greatly on your budget.
I love my HP Zbook 15u G4 with i7, 512GB NVMe and 32GB RAM.
However at €1900 it's not for everyone. -
awnumar2937yThe Dell XPS line is really quite good. I have the XPS 13 (9360) and I'm really happy with it.
-
Python55587yJust as @apollotonkosmo @awnumar have mentioned, XPS is just amazing. I have the 13", a bit pricey but absolutely worth it. They're sold as Ubuntu dist as well as Windows.
-
Yup, I recommend Dell XPS 13 or 15 as well.
Alternatives are Lenovo Yoga 900 series or HP Spectre x360, all really awesome devices. :) -
I'm Mac all the way. The way I see it is the right tool for the job.
Mac's are a very low set up time dev machine.
Boot it up, install home brew, brew install cask chrome NVM vscode, iterm2. And just like that your up and running. -
@dontbeevil valid point but it's also low maintenance. When I add a new framework or language or Bluetooth headset it just works...
-
@kwilliams well that goes without saying.. lol. If you need to you can dual boot though.
If you think about it dual boot Mac is the best of both worlds. Test web apps in ie develop window applications develop iOS applications web applications all the applications. -
Depends on your language. For web development, I would suggest a Mac. Low maintenance and usually just works, So you can work more, fix less.
-
ZoLe937yIm kinda a thinkpad fanboy, just got myself a 6 year old x220 for 200euro that runs really smooth, but if you want more modern hardware go for the x1.
If you dont mind the gamerish look, razer blade is made insalely good with great specs. -
@incognito Hahahaha was going to comment that. Fun thing in this case is that I actually know you 😆
-
@ZoLe if you turn off the Chroma effects the Razer Blade also looks pretty professional.
-
ZoLe937y@kwilliams
Exactly, saw many popular tech people have it, forgot who are they, the only one i can recall now is Mark Zuckerberg
Hey team.
