Not sure why Firefox is taking too much resources. It's just one tab with gmail login page. And only one add-on is active (AdBlock Plus). Guess it's time to switch to chrome.

Extensions maybe. I had the same issue till I removed some unused extensions

Same happened to me recently. Because of the high CPU usage I switched to Chrome. Happy ever since.

Yeah, like most point out here, if you dont mind having privacy, use Chrome

Chrome is faster, but will eat 1.5X the RAM

@iNCEPTiON nope, there are no extensions.

@runfrodorun RAM is not the only issue. It takes too much time to launch, even though I have SSD, i5 and 8GB RAM. And then once I enter the URL, it becomes unresponsive for a minute or two before loading the page. Chrome launches instantaneously and eats less RAM compared to Firefox. But I don't want to use it because of privacy concerns.

@Jop- my machine is upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Firefox 64bit wasn't available back then when I was using Win 7. I didn't bother to switch to 64bit. Doing it now.

@codepoet I have core i5, SSD, 4gb ram, chrome is faster but more takes ram. After the creators update, the system has gotten slower and whenever resuming from (screen saver/screen off after 1 min idle) it hangs up for a few secs before showing the desktop.

I'll be doing a system restore to roll it before the creators update. No useful shit in there for me to use.

@GrizzlyMagnum yeah, my machine was silky smooth before the anniversary update. Anniversary update increased boot up time by tri fold. But creators update really did a number on overall performance. Applications now take much time to launch and BSoD is becoming very common.

Update to Firefox 57, remove adblock plus and use uBlock Origin, way much lighter. And before you install FF, remove it so it will install the x64 version.

@CozyPlanes I had used vivaldi for some time but it had some issues which drove me nuts. Sometimes i had to press middle click 3 times before closing a tab, some websites were not available due to the user agent, scrolling was hanging sometimes.

    You know what
If you have an unlimited connection and some space in your HDD just download and try it

I like Vivaldi. It's nice, it's chrome, looks beautiful, has decent dev tools, what else do you want?
