It's a shame devRant has gone to hell, but as the moderation seems to be non existent now in a time it's desperately needed, today I kill my ++ subscription.

This was the first community and probably the last I actually thought was worth investing in and making the most of, but it turns out I lost that gamble.

It's a shame really, this place used to be the absolute highlight of my day, you guys... and of course ladies, got me through a lot in life and a lot in my career and I'll appreciate the good times, but these days; well I don't even feel good about supporting this place, how the turns have tabled.

😕

I absolutely understand your decision. And I appreciate that you don’t leave devRant entirely (hopefully).

I also hope that it will get better again in a couple if month maybe.

The mods may be gone for good but the shit that’s being posted atm will decrease as the posters give up or get bored eventually.

Well, this place marketed itself as devs wanting to rant about the industry and it recently turned into devs attacking each other, spamming ads, botting, useless crap about political stuff.

I don't blame you, really. I was thinking about getting a sub back in January but decided against it.

So you paid me indirectly to shitpost?
  • 14
The lack of proper moderation and how much @dfox and @trogus don't seem to care about the bots and schizo weirdos attacking the population are reasons why I am considering leaving for good.

I just don't have the time nor the energy to deal with such weird fuckers

I feel the same don't worry

@AleCx04 Yeah, I'm considering bailing for now, coming back in 6 months or so and seeing if all the attacks and spam has stopped. This place used to be a place where Devs genuinely ranted about their day job and supported each other. Now it's a cesspit of posts I'm not even sure are made by real Devs.

    @C0D4 @AleCx04 @Bubbles @AlmondSauce

Before you leave for good, please let me introduce you to dR Bulletin Board. It's an emergent, unofficial magazine to keep you posted on the periphery of threads and microblog filled by people like you, from devRant people for devRant people.

Powered by Kbin, it provides a two-way interoperability for Fediverse software based on ActivityPub protocol. This much includes: Mastodon, Pleroma, Firefish, Lemmy, etc. Have an account on any of these? Throw our address into the search bar and it will show you our magazine, ready to explore:

    https://kbin.melroy.org/m/drbboard

Moderation is *not* yet elected, but it's in my queue. I'm in a search for crew that is passionate about this community, cares about content and understands why having such alternatives matters and how they play well without reinventing the wheel.

While I'm at it, there is a retrospective about dRCS Discord server, what was achieved and what's the next move.

And before certain someone tries anything funny, I will let you know that most Fediverse software I came across has a personal block list feature, to provide us with an autonomy in the absence of moderation to clean the garbage from our feeds.

    Oh hey you :)

@chaosesqueteam2 It's not a service he's advertising. And certainly, its not competing with devRant. It's free to join. And so is devRant.

Let me speak with a human mindset to you. I am not trolling you.

You use offensive words like faggot etc, which puts people off to help you, be it anything you want us to help you with. That's it. You can believe in 10 things we don't believe in, and we can say 10 things you don't agree with. It's just how this works.

Saying things like "we are going to have a war", what is this shit man, you're not an established name in the community, u haven't got any accolades that we could care about, what do you have to win from us and what do we have to lose to you?

Let's say you win the "war", what then? We aren't magically quitting our jobs and start working on your project, are we?

Just something to think about, I'm not trying to offend you.

@vintprox If it has some sort of API i want to add some sort of frontpage to my client to view recent posts. Also i will upload my post soon, sorry i didnt before. I had too many unexpected stuff i had to do and care for. I want to spare some time for this though!

@joewilliams007 Oooh yessss, thank you! And no worries, don't be hasty. 😊

@vintprox I mean I'm in the devRant discord so I'm never officially "gone"
  • 1
@vintprox hehe. So i was looking at it earlier today but the documentation leads to not working API Endpoints.

    https://docs.kbin.pub/#introduction

Soo i thought maybe they have an outage right now or don't support it anymore. Inspecting the dR bulletin board didn't reveal any API's aswell, other then the html files which granted, could also be used if one is desparate. Do you know any working API endpoint for the magazine?

But since i kinda got stuck there i looked at the matrix chat you made. I'm going to implement that first. Well, not to the big extend, but starting with showing a preview of the recent messages, and maybe going from there. Their API works great.

Yup my devRant client will be kinda chunky some day. :D. I know it needs some fix updates soon tho. I just love all the features already and it keeps me to making more. Like if can even view the devRant chat in the same app that would be so awesome. The standard app in contrast is to me, a lite, mostly stable client. :)

@joewilliams007 Ah, now that I'm reminded that someone gad the very same idea with integrating Matrix chat into the single devRant app, I'm even more forward for this.
  • 2
@joewilliams007 Huh, it's really weird how endpoint leads to 404. I've askes for help from the kbin.melroy.org's host, so he might assist you: https://kbin.melroy.org/m/drbboard/...

    Anyway, nice ideas all around!

thanks bud, but as it is I am really grossed out by the kind of weird people that being a developer attracts, I am really grossed out at having a full blown pedo in our ranks in here, not new, not necessarily common, but this one fucker in particular really grosses me out.

    I am done with developers

    I understand.
I’m still going to support it, for awhile at least. This place has been home for so long.

Sorry to hear so many things changed for the worst here. I had forgotten about devrant for a while, it's really odd to find it in such a state all of a sudden.

what happened? I discovered this community 5 minutes ago
  • 2
@ostream So you are planning to leave? That’s great!

    @ostream
    > oh come on my trolling is benign compared to wht's been going on lately lmao

    That’s true.

    > you just pissed me off by lacking emotional intelligence. I'm already tired after a glitch, it doesn't help to see "hey your language is shit". But yeah I over-reacted.

I certainly didn’t expect to read that 😅
Sorry pal. But don’t take assaults on a language personally.
Anyway, not everything I say is meant to be taken serious. I also like to troll a bit 😄

Your subscription lasted longer than mine did

@SidTheITGuy why are you like this?
  • 1
C0D, all things change and people move on, still regret to see you go.
    Thanks for supporting the platform.

I will say that your reaction is exactly what they want. To the T. This response of yours is almost always what they're going for when someone tries to bust up a small forum online.
  • 1
@Wisecrack why am I like what? I am not trolling anyone. That chaosesqueteam guy was saying things like We are gonna have a war, just because Vintprox was asking for us to join his Discord/Matrix.

And please dude, don't comment and tag me on old threads. I literally had to scroll up and see what I said originally.
  • 2
@SidTheITGuy I didnt know what the beef was. Wasnt aware threads 25 days old are considered old?

I'm surprised anyone would even take issue with vintprox. Sounds kinda assholish.
  • 0
@Wisecrack 25 days on the internet is like 3 years in real life.
  • 3
That's sad, glad I was here during the golden age, all good things come to an end unfortunately.

Seems like I knew the right time to quit all together xD
