35

I have to make this a separate rant.
It's been going on for months, and I don't have alternatives.

This.

This is what I pay 35€ per month for. Every evening it's like this. Usually it can't even load the speed test. Right now it can't even load the upload meter.

A big FUCK YOU to Vodafone in Berlin. Giant ass FUCK YOU, for just promises and appalling service.

    @ThatDude I'm asking myself the same question. These assholes are the reason why I lost one of my favorite relaxing activities (competitive FPS). They are the reason why I postpone a lot of my projects because it takes ages to install ANYTHING. I can't watch videos, can't stream music, can't do anything basically. Cached websites load reasonably fast. New sites (especially those heavy on ads) take minutes.

    And since I'm new here, I have no idea how to defend my rights.

    While I wrote that I was making a repeat test. Download speed is now 0.22, upload still failing.

    @AndSoWeCode fucking arseholes. I'm totally with you. Have had 1Mb/s down until last year and I was dying. I can't even imagine having only 1/4 of that
  • 2
    Dude that sucks. Scumbag industry with no real regulation.
  • 2
    @ThatDude I can't. I tried another one, but they said I had to get the key to a locked cellar from a neighbor, that just refuses to even talk to me. Doesn't answer the door, doesn't answer to mail, nothing. That's why I can't get FTTH, so I'm stuck with cable, where apparently a whole city block is tied to a single cable modem.

    @AndSoWeCode go with LTE, sounds like a bad idea, but the infrastructure in Berlin is solid, my mum gets Internet through tv stick, so check it out that out as well!
  • 1
    @ThatDude it's around 1€ per GB, and lag is an issue. Maybe good enough for expensive entertainment (HD video is around 500MB for 0.5h of quality 1080p).
    But yeah, I used that for a couple of months, and worked without a hickup, but cost me a fortune.

    Move to a different city.

    Well, if you happen to be an unemployed artist with a preference for techno and drugs, it's probably perfect ;-)

    Spass beiseite. Which part of berlin is it?
  • 1
    @CWins I like Berlin. Other cities are boring :) (no offense).
    I'm in Charlottenburg, but will likely move to Lichtenberg after all of the annoying stuff here.
  • 1
    @ThatDude damn right I have :D
    fuck...

    @AndSoWeCode make sure to find a place with fiber
  • 2
    I've got a contract at Telekom and I think it could be the right thing for you. We "only" have 6Mbit/s via DSL but they give you truly unlimited LTE in addition. It's somewhere around 40€. The connection is stable and it works just finde. Only downside: you have to use the Speedport as your router.

    @Amo123 I'll ask my colleagues to help me out. I'm new in Germany and by the time I finish reading a web page they could already sign me up and connect to a new provider.

    Thanks for the info. Will follow up indeed.

    Get used to it honestly/sadly - all ISPs in germany are garbage, the only one having near 99% uptime is "Unity Media", which most usually also happens to be the cheapest one and do not I repeat DO NOT setup a telekom contract and then try to switch, youll be without internet for atleast 3 months - the one intern that I could just straight talk about it said that the local guys that set those switch tickets up - ALWAYS fuck it up making it near impossible to do fast, because they are simply not trained well enough to do it (he was previously one too).

    Last 2 days I had flickering internet at exactly 2205 - and the flicker was 200kbps for atleast 15 minutes each, rounding up to 2 hours atleast to full recovery - most of the time with completely cut internet too.

    In South Korea this would be known as a crime against humanity.
  • 2
    @AleCx04 I think even in Latvia, access to 1Mbps internet is considered a basic human right.

    @JoshBent "Das Produkt in Ihrem Warenkorb ist nicht verfügbar"

    *cries in sadness after waiting for 5 minutes for website to load*
  • 1
    @AndSoWeCode Some random shop or did you check out Unity Media and they were not available?
  • 1
    But hey I had similar problems too but I never could even start the test.
  • 2
    @JoshBent I checked their website. I was ready to check out. I was ready to pay for both contracts until my current one ends. I was ready to make this commitment right now, in the middle of the night. Alas, it's not available in my address.
  • 1
    @crafter now imagine having that for half a year.
  • 3
    Hey bro, same problem but not as hardcore. Should have 200 down, got 13 up in the evening (I can survive that)
    Daytime I get 200 as promised
    Vodafone in Hamburg

    @AndSoWeCode

    The Vodafone Router is complete bullshit, everyone I know using it has problems with it. The only thing you can do is get yourself a pretty standard 40€ Asus router, set the Vodafone router into modem-mode and just use your Asus router. This seems pretty unbelieveable, right? Since I've done this, I had no problems at all for the past 2 years. Also my family having the same issue are now enjoying the full speed. Just order a router off Amazon. If it isn't working, just send it back (psshht.... It's gonna work). And please please please please don't think about getting a FritzBox instead... It's bullshit too...
  • 1
    @AndSoWeCode Damn, that fucking sucks.

    @niederschlag The problem most often now is, that the outside connection cuts off, not the actual router - I know your trick and it did work some time (years) ago, but now the ISPs just fuck it up miles away from you, it's worth a try still, but probably won't be _the_ solution, sadly.
  • 1
    Even 3g is better than this
  • 1
    the equivalent of fairpoint over where i am. i feel for you man
  • 1
    @niederschlag ... that's exactly my setup...
  • 1
    WHAT THE FUCK!
    Even my slow ass internet connection doesn't reach that shit point at night, we do experience slow connection but at least websites still open
  • 4
    @AndSoWeCode how much bandwith do you pay for? If it is far more than what you get (which it probably is) you can make a complain at the Bundesnetzagentur, it may help.
  • 6
    I had the same issue with Vodafone in Italy. They’re the worse everywhere.
  • 2
    That’s how DSL providers get you! They have a limited bandwidth per DSLAM, they tell you that your speed can be up to XX Mbps, but if all people connected to said DSLAM are online, you basically share the bandwidth with them... look for an unpopular provider, or consider cable if you have it available in your area!!
  • 2
    @kolaente I'll look into that. My German is still horrible so it's going to be a problem to communicate.
  • 1
    @j0zz I have cable, with a cable modem, and it's either that, or Kabel Deutschland, which I heard from other people here that they have just horrific customer service.
  • 2
    @AndSoWeCode dude... come to the south, what are you doing in Berlin??
    We have shit your pants internet speeds over here!!
  • 3
    @j0zz it's boring in the south. By 8PM the city looks like a scene from "Walking Dead".
