Just a friendly reminder that a 53,000,000psi jet of molten metal is below you at all times.

Let's make deep holes in the ground to warm our houses

@retoor The holes have to be very deep so they should be filled with something that conducts heat so for it to work you have to put a very long tube full of water in the hole. In fact, while we have water flowing around by itself let's put a turbine on it and make it do other things than generate heat!

Nothing friendly about this. You're literally anxious.

@lorentz it's geothermal energy, and it's being used to warm houses.
The house my fiance lives in has a geothermal heating system, which is really cool actually.

And the holes don't need to be that deep. A few meters is already enough for the horizontal systems

@thebiochemic I know, that's what I'm alluding to. Although geothermal isn't really digging through the Earth's crust, it's usually utilized in areas where volcanism and hot springs cover nearly all the distance.

I live horizontal away from my work, not in some kind of attic. Goes in to battle it every day though.

@retoor actually, it doesn't sound too stupid on the surface.
