Mispronounced "Finally" cus of some exicting stuff happening, getting the nickname "Finlay" after a bit.
"DaG33k" was our clan tag (we had it as suffix rather than the typical "[TAG]" stuff).
Hence, my nickname is now "FinlayDaG33k". -
@kobenz Jupp. Packages install, I can use it to compile and everything but importing the package into my project and the thing goes "nah fam, cannot find the file"
-
@kobenz I mostly make "quick doodles" in it, nothing actually serious but I can understand your issues. :^)
Nimble doesn't even work for me (packages install but cannot be used somehow). :^) -
@kobenz I've been poking around with Nim as well the past few weeks.
So no, you're not alone. -
@Firanolfind Probably him.
A neural network needs to basically be force-fed data and be told what is expected.
He could probably find out a lot on himself simply by trying stuff and see whether it worked.
He could set his own expectations, which is currently something neural networks cannot do afaik. -
@Demolishun True, I started out as a PHP dev and now I mainly chill in Maple, TS and occasionally some Rust (mainly my car that runs on Rust - yes this started as a meme before I realized Rust is actually quite a nice language).
I even made some PHP extensions in Rust for work. -
Take away distractions, have them get comfortable with the very basics before increasing difficulty.
It is a proven method of learning pretty much about anything.
Don't overload newbies with a massive truckload of information, it's a proven way to discourage people. -
@hitko Actually, it does have a lot to do with C++ vs other languages.
He said people *should* learn C/C++ as a first language because it learns you how computer and programs work.
He wants people to learn how a car engine and the Otto cycle works before driving a car.
I mentioned they should use TS + Deno so they can learn the very fundamentals of coding ("learning how to drive") before going deeper into it ("learning how the engine works").
The only reason I use TS + Deno is because:
- TS allows you to go from "no-typing" to "soft-typing" and sets you up to go to stricty-typing.
- Deno runs TS out of the box (NodeJS requires additional setups I do not want to bother people with just yet).
This is not "the possible way" someone should learn to code, it is *the best way*.
Or are you gonna tell me you should learn how to operate a car's throttle, brakes, steer, use your blinkers, clutch and shift... On your first few minutes of driving ever... -
@Demolishun No, it was me just recommending some guy that wanted to learn how to write code (like the very basics) to use TS + Deno (just to take away a lot of shit so the bloke could focus on the fundamentals like logic, control flow, functions etc. etc.).
Then some C/C++ dev went on a rampage and said I should not be telling people how to learn to code if I use TS + Deno and that I'm only a stupid webdev (hint: I do cryptography stuff) and that learning people TS + Deno is only if I want people to become stupid webdevs and be stuck there forever.
He didn't realize my intentions for using TS + Deno was to learn them the very basics of writing code so they can grow from there.
It was just a random Discord server.
@iiii Yea, JavaScript in a Chrome container is kind of a pain.
I'm definitely guilty of making such things but most of those are private projects that just need to work.
But this was TS + Deno, so more similar to just NodeJS or PHP without funky shit. -
- JS wasn't meant to be ran on the server.
- Listerine wasn't meant as a mouth water.
- Slinkies weren't meant to keep our monkey brains occupied for ages.
Things get used for things they weren't meant to all the time.
If things get used widely for things they weren't meant to, there probably is a good reason they chose to. -
Indeed and Monsterboard are very common here... Though I must add that *personally*, I haven't had any luck with *any* job hunting website due to being in an awkward position.
Most of my work comes from personal connections. -
Makes me wonder what kinda stuff you need to do that would prevent you from getting shit done?
I work on Windows most of the time at home, with Linux at work but outside that I prefer my Linux setup at work, neither one prevents me from getting shit down for my work.
Packaging Python modules, I can't speak of (Python is one of those languages I hate enough to only really bother with remembering its existence or when it's absolutely mandatory).
And well, it's only on Windows, then surely more people in the company have the issue right? So it's time to work on a bug fix for that then.
If they don't have that issue, well... then it's a you problem.
If you are the only dev there, they should hire someone else ASAP or they'll have serious problems if you can't come (you never know when truck-kun comes to isekai you).
I don't use PuTTy at all (I just use Git Bash + Gpg4Win) and all I had to do was tick a button in Kleopatra... -
@iiii In JS it should cus I've never had the issue before (since it gets the clock from the system)
-
@iiii You'd assume that it'll automatically take care of that _riiiiiiight_?
Also, if DST was the issue, then it would be correct rn or 1 hour behind (cus we are in DST rn). -
*laughs in not having paid a cent tor the entire JetBrains suite in the 2 years he's been using it*
-
@dontbeevil Same here :^)
-
@spongegeoff I am the ISP in this case D:
It runs on a server that I physically own :p
I did manage to fix it but it's still weird that it happened. -
@spongegeoff Well, the main issue was that a cron should run every hour but somehow, it didn't in live (even though the code used for it is known to work) :|
-
@Alison9 5GHz has severe limitations in range here (brick inner walls)
-
@TrevorTheRat spend it on saving more seconds each day?
-
@ChristoPy Folks don't think in general :|
-
I just rackmount all my shit tbf :|
And for builds for clients I generally use something like a Corsair 4000D (which had good airflow and looks pretty good too) -
@sbiewald I wish I'd knew why...
Probably because they know how essential they are and try to abuse it... -
Python devs: "What is this semicolon thou speaketh ofth?"
-
@SkuunAn Even if I did, it wouldn't fall under breach of contract (they never specified those kinds of things) :p
-
@homo-lorens we'd run out of usable extensions really quickly that way...
If that'd be the case, I could claim a `.fdg` for my own tools I built and everyone would have to keep notice of that so they don't make those 10-20 people that use it suffer :^)
Oh wait... nvm... `.fdg` is already taken by Chitubox... -
UPDATE: They gave in and have removed the charges.
Still retarded tho. -
Imagine having your business running in such a way that you rely so heavily on a single other entity :^)
After the Great CloudFail of 2019(?), I hoped people would start using their brains and realize that relying on a single other party for basically your entire core business is dumb...
Today I started to realize you can't use something you don't have. -
Yay, now actually make it work properly and I'll be happy :^)
Seriously, I tried it a little while ago, bricked my system :|
Managed to get it fixed without re-install tho but that's not the point. -
@eo2875 Yes, I understand that but they were actively holding back progress.
If they, like you stated, said: "hey, as long as you fulfill the core requirements" then it would be fine.
But no, they said I must fulfill the core requirements with *only* the information that was thaught to us by them at that period in time.
So if I wanted to use GraphQL instead of REST for my API...
Too bad, we haven't been thaught to use GraphQL so doing so would mean losing points...
Despite the fucking goal of the exercise being XHR and JSON...
The biggest bs point reduction I had in that college (please grab the nearest bottle of bleach in advance): I used PHP's OPCache...
Yes...
I got a point reduction for using PHP's OPCache in my config (just for some extra performance on the production server) because we hadn't learned about that yet...
