oh I work at IBM, I can't even count the wtf moments I had.
-
@ganjaman That Paralelni Polis sticker <3 I have to pay them a visit already.
-
@ThomasRedstone you are right that I shouldn't use it as excuse. But here are some details for you. I asked for raise 2 times, 1st time manager told me he will take away the one extra workload, second time that it wouldn't get approved or whatever. The person working on the project before me had central shifts and didn't have to monitor tickets. I have to do both, then I'm not effective in neither and get payed only for doing the monitoring. I also had some central shifts but at that time, there were no requests for functionalities from customer so it was kinda open project, I added and worked on what I wanted with my pace. Now I have deadlines and team has even less personal so no central shifts for me. If there is a bug in prod version I get blamed for not repairing it right away even if I had no time to fix it.
It still might sound like I'm making excuses, but the panic attacks I get almost daily from fear of making mistake in monitoring or not making the deadlines are terrible. -
I use Brave browser on my phone. Blocks most trackers and javascript.

This reminded me my workday on command center.

IBM uses RHEL 7.5 as basic workstation for employees but the repositories are broken as fuck. Hope this will make things more compatible and less broken. It's seriously not pleasant to work on those. Had to figure out so many workarounds.
-
@desmondanimus That is a hard request for 1st level support guy :D
Honestly I have no idea how it goes at IBM with security and incident response teams.
At my site we are in direct contact with customers and clients. So it's mostly support, administration and server maintenance here. Basic IT knowledge was enough to get me this job and with python programming I was able to join on an automation project.
I could have been already on 2nd level unix/linux support long ago but shortage of people and onboarding freeze kinda fucked me over. But this situation is affecting only IBM Europe as far as I know.
Sorry I couldn't be more of help. -
@desmondanimus well depends on which position and where. Working on projects is OK but my team has not enough people and I need to do both 1st level monitoring work on shifts and programming. Can't speak for all departments tho. They give you space for ideas, improvements and career advancement, but where I am, the management is terrible.
-
@Stuxnet Me, working at IBM and receiving a mail with discounts for those. Can't share it because of compliance tho.

In brno there is a "wifi tram" and someone already poped the ununtu box that provides the wifi :D
-
@ilikeglue I think it's pretty apparent that he doesn't give a flying fuck abut it.

@JiggleTits It's my main transport.

Cat showcase, this is my Bagheera, she is the night and darkness.

@D3add3d I had similar situation with slovak. The teacher didn't attend our lessons, nothing explained, no materials, only sometimes she rushed to our class and wrote down page numbers to read from book. She was a deputy director so no one did a thing about it. And she has the finishing class every year....
-
Don't worry that much about matura. I had a few panic attacks before and at the end I went through easily. It's just a piece of paper. And you are already accepted to uni.
-
@D3add3d Gratulujem! Make a stop in Brno sometimes.

@Linux I am still deciding between proxmox and ESXi.
-
omg, those questions, lol. Our teacher wasn't an it person, but at least she didn't pretend to know better and actually listened to you when you knew better. although she sucked at teaching and other people didn't get anything. too shame no one cared about IT in my class, I didn't get to teach the girls. :(
-
@D3add3d niesom proti ani jednemu, ale dlhodobo byvam v brne :D

@D3add3d I'm a fellow (hobby) pentester from Slovakia, cheers :)

@mbj047 I agree that IBM is totally ineffective, people there are lazy and sometimes even incapable to their job right, but I'm only 20 so it was a success for me.
-
@Jilano It was quite a good year for me, nothing much happened except I got the job and I got to learn a lot. Even though I learn everything myself I see the progress and it motivates me. But I procrastination comes too every now and then.
