I just set course becoming a contributer to a programming language. My ambition is to become core team member.
Hopefully we will leave the path of shipping tons of crappy software in increasingly shorter periods of time and come back to thought out, well engineered software that actually matters. I would love that.1
Btw. I have never ever in my life touched a Windows machine. I wouldn't even know how to compile something.10
Eleven years ago I bought my first MacBook and switched from Linux to OSX. Today I dumped my last MacBook and switched back to Linux.2
"Here is a minor update to our library from 0.8.x to 0.9.0. - Oh, and it is breaking everything, because we changed the API."
What on earth will happen on a major update?
Really, what is it with the fear of major release numbers? Just name it 1.0 and 2.0 if you break 1.0.
Better yet: just give it a new name. Thingy2 would totally do the job.3
If you write a tutorial or a book with code samples please take the time to ensure that (a) you cover everything that is needed to get your samples to work properly and (b) that your samples actually to work.
It is frustrating the bloody hell out of me typing your code character by character into my machine just to have my compiler screaming at me.
On that note: just wasted a week on rewriting a whole bloody library that was "broken" just to discover that the library works just fine but the freaking tutorial on the very page was faulty.5
My love for Clojure is so deep that I have invested the whole company. Over the past months just everyone came up to me and asked me, if I may teach them some Clojure programming. With everyone I mean literally everyone working in this company - fellow programmers, the ladies from HR, the Sales Team and even the CEO.
So today I gave a two hour introduction to the whole team on how to Clojure (in absolute basic terms).
The team has just voted that we will do that every friday starting next week for the rest of the year.
If you have passion, show it.9
