Is it faster then chrome now? But still have the extensions framework?
  • 15
@billgates Firefox is honestly the greatest browser now. You should try it and see how you feel :)
  • 17
It's so freaking beautiful and fast ❤😍
  • 7
@billgates just tried, still laggy trash, sadly.

    Waiting for chrome quantum
  • 3
@linuxxx been using it for 3 months now in preparation for this moment :)
  • 6
@JoshBent Wondering what hardware/software you use then, it works fast as fuck for me even on my lowend netbooks!
  • 1
@JoshBent Oh btw I don't mean the exact specifics, just like ram and cpu, except for that I don't know much about hardware 😅
  • 6
@billgates if it's about JavaScript nope, I have a webapp with a D3.js chart that has thousands of points on it, run smoothly on chrome, still laggy on the new FF

It's good. It's better. It's the best. Nuff said.

@linuxxx Tried it on both my main PC:
    - Intel i5 4460 @ 24GB RAM

    and on my small laptop:
    - Intel Atom X5 @ 2GB RAM

On both Chrome just bursts through websites even on battery saver mode on my laptop, where as firefox can't even keep up with css animation backgrounds as it has ~5-10 fps versus the 50+ fps of chrome, it's simply garbage, I hoped it would have been improved since the beta of quantum.
  • 1
@linuxxx oh and by software I guess you mean OS, both are Win10/64bit
  • 2
@camelCase I see you have a really similar case, yes indeed, firefox is garbage compared to chromes performance on any d3.js and css animations.
  • 1
@JoshBent Fair enough! And yeah I meant the OS :)
  • 3
@linuxxx I just paid my friend 3$ to try firefox for a week. He's liking it so far :p
  • 2
    @linuxxx but 57 isn't on aur yet ☚ī¸
  • 3
Is this with the engine which uses Rust?

@HelloUglyWorld it's not just less ram usage. It's consistently faster than chrome now.
  • 3
    @Dacexi I know it's faster, I've tested both.

I just don't really care enough for the 0.7s difference I'm getting - but who knows, competition is healthy, maybe Chromefucks will move their asses and improve a bit.
  • 1
@HelloUglyWorld also I don't like being absolutely datamined by Google

Nice, what the đŸĻŠ says 🤟

    @nik123 on the Edge 😅😂

Been using ffox forever, and I love it. Never cared about the speed difference, but the dev tools are finally catching up to chrome

Started using it the day before, but w00t!

Only thing bad is that they're removing complete themes, RIP

@toastflaming quantum is just a name given to the newest version of Firefox
Nightly is like the alpha of Firefox and you need to download it sepeartely .also nightly can be a bit buggy obviously

Firefox is my default browser from past 10 years and I must say that this is what I've been waiting for!!
  • 0
So gecko back in 1st place eh?
  • 0
    Well, time to update!
  • 1
@nik123 well actually it called as servo not quantum
  • 1
@harrizsb Servo is the layout engine, Stylo is the CSS engine and Quantum is the Browser combining them all.

I'm not sure how to feel about it. Today I was using Firefox Quantum and with 20 or so tabs open it was using over 4gb of ram. This seems quite unusual because they weren't any heavy website, for the most part only StackOverflow and MSDN. Anyone else have issues with ram using FF?
  • 0
@px06 ram usage has been a bit worse than chrome but not near what you're describing
  • 1
@Dacexi yeah I'm not sure whether it was just an odd tab taking up so much ram but I wouldn't assume something like that would happen. When I reduced it to about 5 tabs it went down to 300mb or so ram which I still think it quite alot. Not sure why it's using so much memory.
  • 0
@px06 300mb is nothing for 5 tabs. Chrome used like 900 for 5 tabs

After testing this since launch on opensuse ubuntu and my mobile I can say that the mobile version is absolutely shite, it doesn't play werll with modals and overlays. opensuse I've had the tabs crash out randomly, ubuntu seemed to be working better but in general, although I love the speed and the attempt, some parts are buggy and wank. Can't wait for an update :P
