My friend Just completed his notice period in my company, but now he's saying that I forgot to copy some code for reference like their architecture and authentication code, so, he's asking me to share the repo code of my company. The company has deleted all his data while he was leaving. So what should I do? should I share the code without including .env files or what should I do?

What does that even mean, copy code for reference? And why would that have been your task?

If it's like I think it is, he wants to have company code for his reference: don't share the repo. The code belongs to the company, and employees are usually not allowed to use it for any non-company purpose such as reference when job hunting.

Also, tell your boss immediately because someone with revoked access trying to talk his way back to access, that's called "social engineering". It's a form of cyberattack.

They deleted his data so he wouldn't rip off the company. He is asking you to engage in corporate espionage. He is not your friend.

Ye premise is confusing. If he had a fight when he left why is he giving you orders? He doesn't work there anymore

And employees can't keep their company's code (is that what he's asking for?). The company owns the rights and if someone takes the code and is found with it they can get sued for espionage (and you as complicit)

Idk about reporting him but it makes no sense to take orders from someone who already left, especially if they were fired and even more so especially if there was a fight before they were fired

What do you mean by copying code ”for refence”?

It’s not like future employers would ask him to provide code samples from his former job - that’s unheard of to me

If this was his firat job it’s possible he incorrectly assumes future employers would ask him to show code - you can reassure him they never do

what I would do:

1. Reassure him he does not need any code for future employment. No employer will ask you to provide code from previous jobs
2. Clarify that you’re hesitant that it’s ok to provide any code so you can’t do it. Unless you’re sure it’s fine with the company

@jiraTicket Unless the previous employer is an open source company, presenting code from there would immediately end the job interview anyway because no company wants to hire someone who steals company code.
