I'm on the fence about if the existence/mass production of shit like this is a good sign of a slightly more inclusive economy... or an early indicator of the apocalypse.

The circled part highly amused me.

It does give me s sense of peace and order due to it being sold by menards. They buy up bulk failures to launch and use their large audience to quickly dispose of them... so whoever had this stroke of 'genius', likely lost significant capital.

Ok... mildly disturbing realisations I missed...

    - the burger is directly on the contraption's surface... hoping the implication is meant to be that it was wiped down first... but the design also make those prospects worse.

    - aside from the adjustment in the middle, there's no fold-ability to store... so basically youd be driving around all day with a large apparatus that kinda looks like a strange butt plug connected to a large thick pole with a platform suited for a shoe to stand on... visibly in your car.
  • 6
Looks dangerous as hell, she’s not even looking at the road
  • 9
@TeachMeCode im sure they mean to imply she's parked somewhere... but that does raise, imo, a rather obvious question-- why isnt she just sitting inside whatever fast food-esq place that the burger and fries came from?
Maybe she drives long distances and reeeeally likes that particular place, which isnt available near where she'd be at her meal time???

If u look closely at her expression, it's spot on to what i assume the supposed target audience is. She's trying so hard to make a legit smile, yet shows as...

'I've really sunk this low that *this* is my best available gig, fml'
  • 2
@awesomeest well her hand is grasping the wheel, and it says “dining on the go” so it looks like the advertisement encourages doing this while driving which is pretty insane

As to why she’s not at Micky D’s, BK or Wendy’s I uh….guess she simply doesn’t like staying in those places for too long.

My first thought "fast food catapult". Physics is a thing.
  • 2
@awesomeest or she is thinking "I am this close to this shit that will make me fat."
  • 5
@Demolishun if only we had a restaurant that serves fast food via catapults ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚!! Chef goes “NUMBER 194479 coming right up!” *launches Big Mac at customer* ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

It would be called the McLauncer
  • 5
@Demolishun better still, we need an event that happens periodically where people sign up for the weekly McLauncher Rally where they sit in their cars and wait for a guy to get on the roof with his megaphone and Metallicas enter sandman blasting on the speakers shouting IS EVERYONE REEAADYY TO LAAAAUNNNCHEEERR” (Vince McMahon style) and says “LET ME HEAR THOSE HORNS!” *everyone beeps horns BEEEEEEEEPPP

Guy on roof: “ ALLRIGHT WHO ORDERED THE 13749! COME ON LETS HEAR THAT HORN!”

    Person who ordered 13749: *BEEEEEPP*

Guy on roof: “YEAH!! BETTER KEEP THAT WINDOW DOWN BABY!”

*launches double quarter lber with cheese with catapult*

    *hits a squirrel*

Guy on roof: “OOH sorry. Looks like we got a dead squirrel on our hands. Well at least you got extra ketchup”

    *Everyone laughs*

Guy on roof: now to announce the winner of our special prize-the winner will get to take home a BRAND NEW CAR DINING TABLE!!

@TeachMeCode I was mainly just thinking about what happens if you slam on the brakes with food on that thing. I don't think it will stay vertical.
  • 3
@Demolishun omg, THANK YOU! I had that concept stuck in my head but couldn't really fully identify it and the only words i could put it into were incomplete sentences/thoughts in very hard to translate german words. (Literal/seriously)

Looking at that middle of bar, angle adjustment(seems to have no cap on max loose-ness), compounded with the spherical, tension-based, design and the, often rubberised to some extent, design of modern cup holders... imo it's reminiscent of if a, platform catapult*, a trébuchet and a child's crude, stick + rubberband array, slingshot had an orgy to produce that.

*like the ones designed to throw an array of items to rain down over a larger area... sparsely seen in actually historical battles, but the couple times that come to mind were primarily to cause large fires... couple decades ago i remember some instances involving rotten produce.
  • 1
@Demolishun hey, food doesn't make people fat, just like guns dont kill people... it's all the same, derived from a cesspool of willful ignorance, entitlement, immaturity, the essence of bratty exclamation "But, I wanna!", masking fear and insecurites, avoiding logically caused negative feelings* via dopamine highs**, the basis of this song https://youtu.be/0i472dXXyaQ/...
...and several other sources that are illogical to actual hapiness.

*just like with physical pain, the innate purpose is meant to inform of something being vitally wrong/in need of action/resolution/etc.

** for those who dont know... several things cause dopamine increases, junk food, drugs, doing charity work to see smiling children thriving... all ++dopamine

@awesomeest I read that the right combo of sugar, salt, and fat causes an opiate type response in the brain.

Meanwhile, Haitian cannibals are trying to take over Haiti. Wild.
  • 0
@Demolishun what u read is right/wrong... it does minimal for pain like opiates do... but the dopamine (and similar/adjacent chemicals that signal euphoria/happiness/etc) response can be nearly identical. The big factor that info is missing is that everyone's brains have a different cocktail in response to these things, relatively same components just different ratios with both the intake and the product.

Consider something like a Sadist inflicting pain, vs an idealistic peace/hope/love societal trope of a man doing the same thing... Sadist = dopamine rush... some other chemicals and a blood rush to a lower extremity, love and hugs in a man-bun = anxiety, guilt, likely crying, shaking and/or vomiting as those aforementioned chemical levels plument.

Same is true for flavours you enjoy and nostalgia (even flavours you dislike but are nostalgic to good memories)

$39.99 elsewhere... This is obviously designed for people who would believe anything. Probably lost their home and live in the car.
  • 2
I was also initially quick to judge and laugh off.

Then I remembered that there are people who are professional drivers, i.e. drive someone to some event, *wait in the car* ready-to-go for a few hours for the event and that person's dinner to end, and then drive him back.. hundreds of kilometres.

IDK, if I were this kind of a driver I'd also consider getting one of these. As long as it's sturdy enough to hold its shape in a parked vehicle with some meal on it. Far better than getting a *burger or a meat pie and putting that greasy paper bag/box on the car seat. Or floor. Or the panel. Or my lap...

And I see in the pic that it folds quite nicely: it has 2 joints [mid-arm and arm-plane], so after the meal I could just fold it up and throw it on the back passenger's floor. Or the trunk.

The only concerns I have are:

    - stability (do the joints hold w/o slipping/creeping) with the meal on top

    - will the car's coffee cup holder withhold the pressure w/o breaking/cracking
  • 1
This violates the law of distraction while driving. And if it was supposed to be used while we are not driving.. why not simply put them on the seat or our laps? Even though it's cheap, it is still a waste of money..
  • 0
    @tosensei you are so right.
Personally i love capitalism... just not how wilfully ignorant idiots operate in capitalism... or those so blinded by greed that they create companies that decay until they implode due to toxic practices.

... most of me wishes that things like business architecture and practices that are innately obvious to me were actually common sense to the masses.
(before knowing i was autistic or how ignorant i innately am about norms and tropes... i assumed these, and many other, things were actually common sense)

But there's still a little part of me that appreciates my unique and very valuable queer view of reality and inherently expensive insights.

There's this local dollar-store-like chain by me that ive been making money off of for almost a decade. I need to find time to contact the owner and propose a symbiotic relationship. He sources things in a way outside my current reach, seems to have a good eye for purchasing, clueless @ pricing or marketing.

@awesomeest " i love capitalism... just not how wilfully ignorant idiots operate in capitalism... or those so blinded by greed that they create companies that decay until they implode due to toxic practices."

but... what you are describing IS capitalism in its unregulated form. maximisation of profit at any cost.

    @tosensei
Many yrs ago he tried flipping a bulk of tshirts/failed attempt of charlie sheen's. An array of m/f styles, designs, sizes. After months of lowering prices he had mixed, literal, piles @2$/5for5$. I offered to buy his full inventory, resulted as 192@91.5c ea

I quickly sold them while using it as a promo gateway item for an e-comm site of mine(all free/incl in price, shipping).

    Listed as:

Random Charlie Sheen Shirt - $5

    Image:
    pile of shirts w/ 2-3readable

    Description:
You give us $5, a size and an address. We send a random Charlie Sheen shirt, possibly in that size, to that address.
It does not need to be your address.

Those sold fast. Over 65% were not sent to the same as billing address, customer name or where the other purchased items were sent.
(used a few as tips for pizza guys, caused fights to deliver to us. Several times coming with a $5 bill. One owner reached out to buy one, she insisted 10$ min. Yrs of unrequested, great, tailored perks til i moved)

@hjk101 actually, so far, with menards ive been able to confirm all 'elsewhere' claims I've looked into. Havent checked this one but id be surprised if i couldn't find a valid active listing at that price.
  • 1
@hjk101 while looking for a better pic to see if @netikras was accurate about foldability(doesnt appear to be as foldable as you think... and im really curious if u/anyone would take the effort to get out and put it in the trunk...and sanitary concerns) this popped up. Was one of the first results... so elsewhere price is accurate.
    https://a.co/d/9q0yAbm
There's even a, moderately long, video.
I've also found a satisfactory answer to the target audience via the reviews.

I kinda regret googling it. there are several varieties, versions etc of this nonsense. My opinion of society certainly wasnt great before, but it just inched down a bit more.

Lately I keep getting mentally pulled back to a song, that's once again in my head, ref the overwhelming amount of idiots in the world... causing the rest of us to quietly tolerate more on the basis of exhaustion/keeping the peace to avoid likely pointless exhaustion.

It's a great song, but german. Mein Hass by das Lumpenpack

    @awesomeest https://amazon.com/Premium-Car-Cup-...

Although there are variations of it. The square one, like in your OP, seems to have 2 1-axis joints and seem to be foldable as I described earlier. There are also round ones, they have 1x 1-axis joint and 1x ball joint, which won't be as easy to fold neatly.

@tosensei the thing most of these tyrannical greedy(yet ignorant) capitalists and the ones blaming capitalism for the world's issues don't seem to comprehend is the "at any cost" thing.

Most of my career has actually been in int business consulting... rather unique nature/range of issues/industries. So I'm technically an expert.

    This is long...

'Successful' companies typically come in 2 main forms:
1- the, ultimately/eventually, blinded by greed or otherwise significantly ignorant and flailing to stay afloat.

2- the, much more rare, morally conscious and genuinely making caring decisions.

Type 1 - some proof-of-concept success > rounds up resources(humans, capital, strategic bridges, etc) > scales as rapidly as they think they can handle > hires costly fixes for whatever they overlooked = over-cut corners/best employees turn passive aggressive and/or leave.

    ...
  • 1
Type 2 - tries to promote from the inside, scales slower with a more idealistic 'dont fuck with what's worked' approach > slows more due to unaccounted realisations like lawyers, replication despite new variables, admin stretched too thin for too long > forced to hire outside help > stalls, often due to wise caution > efforts(even when correct) tend to make stall/flat-line slighy dip > some/few uncertainty/panic > dip now = clear downtrend

Type 1 eventually fails, pissing off countless investors and HR... normally over a gruelling length of waxing and waning. If valuable enough the get bought/conformed or parsed... if already a subsidiary some C*O gets blacklisted and publicity blamed/fired and conditions become worse/more permanent until the PR is bad enough that it's hurting/infecting the rest... then some PR stunts, lip service(not even the good kind), negligible changes etc...

    ...
  • 1
reiterate on a loop til there's a big enough lawsuit or catastrophe that everyone loses (unless youre a major auto manufacturer in the US, then u get free money for innately implied, headless, terrorism)

Type 2- tends to either slowly, via trial/error, find solutions/expand... surprisingly often they get some competent, low-risk, help via some version of kudos/recognition of valid/caring policy or get noticed for rare inherent value by media or some eccentric with resources. Often resulting in keeping most of the trust/valid practices and gaining momentum for that reason. These are the ones likely to profit more, organically evolve, get aid when shit hits the fan, and avoid more demise via lawsuits and scandal.

@awesomeest about my invention? It drew inspiration from @Demolishun ‘s thing about how the food won’t be vertical when hitting the brakes. So that gave me this idea: (donning local used car commercial guy’s voice)

    Part 1

HEY AMERICA! This is local used car guy at Prestige Hyundai on the route 684 expressway across from Precision Lasik and the Red Lobster Center Plaza! We are EXPANDING (echo EXPANDING) with a NEW (echo NEW) product line of an innovate new way to transport stuff around!!

Introducing the Fling Thing! Asshole cut you off when you’re going 70 in a 30?? dumbass cat or deer wants to become roadkill and steps out into the road?? And YOU GOTTA SLAM YOUR FUCKING BRAKES AND SLOW DOWN??

Well! Time for REVENGE! Just simply attach the robo arm and hand to your hood and insert an item to the hand and when that elderly asshole cuts you off and you gotta slam the brakes, the arm will detect using AI (echo AI) and will send that thing through granny’s windshield!
  • 0
    …continued

BUT wait!!! What if you’re not a piece of shit who will hurl items at cats, pedestrians or other assholes who want you to cough cough drive safely?? We gotta appeal to a wider market bc money.

Are you workin for DoorDash and can’t (or too lazy to…more likely this) get to the house?? Why the hell walk?? Fling it baby!! With our special app you can control it from your car without needing to slam your brakes. So you can fling a pizza (pizza goes flying into a flower bed), a whole CHICKEN (hits a squirrel) oooh extra ketchup on that one, a GIANT ALASKAN KING CRAB (huge spiny crustacean smashes a window). You’re probably asking how the fuck does this thing know how to grab differently shaped items? It uses ADVANCED AI ALGOLOGARITHMS (echo ADVANCED AI ALGOLOGARITHMS) and HTML (or is it DOS or somethin) in its fingertips to detect where to grab this giant King Crab (you can program it to grab it by the ballsack-do crabs even have ballsacks?)

@tosensei to your comment on ppl being dumb enough to buy anything...

As a teen I made A LOT of money selling 'xanax'. Since middle school i had to be on tons of extra hormones (aka more birth control pills than if I was on them for birth control)...

Now, I wouldn't be surprised at all if you, a guy that's not in any rel field knew this but... I'm still in a very somber, decreasingly shocking, awe that sooo many adult, sexually active, females don't know this...
Birth control pill packs(typically) are 4 rows of 7 pills each. The 4th row(typically) are total blanks... might have some fraction of a calorie due to composite... no drugs/hormones/etc.

1st was a joke @ a kid, named Storm, really. Hed try(fail) acting as some detroit hoodlum variety; was very gullible. Sold 10 'xanax'. The friend who knew and I made bets, when hed notice etc, week later he asked to talk. he was desperate to buy more. Seems he gave some to a friend, boasting, and they agreed they were legit/stronger even.

@netikras did u look at the link to the amazon of the initial product(aka my link)?... the amazon link is the official post by the actual brand/source.

I even watched the, imo longer than is good for a product(like that), ad/vid.

I know a large amount of pruduction/factory operations/typical methodology etc... even more about physical engineering mechanisms* etc. I'll probably check again because despite typically being right, i dont think of you as foolish or wilfully ignorant (being explicit about that is akin to high regard from me), also it seems like not having a better range mech at that top joint is asinine... i really want the fading spark of the ember of hope for society to gleam

*grandpa is an accomplished, retired 2 or 3x from different companies after years for them, a couple hundred patents some personal, others under contract, but he's still listed as the inventor. Theres a chunk on g patents Raymond Vincent Plymouth MI (some + A, initial)

    @netikras
    My gpa...

He's the grumpy old man/mild amount of mad scientist, enjoys his joke-esq ploys to the point of overshadowing the actual humour often... ex. My cousin kept whining about having a cell phone (wouldve been rare esp for the age then... but me having a cell phone (palm treo, i bought in full and was more interested in programming during class that txting etc) didn't help.

So xmas he used a file box, a lot of tissue paper, lack of requiring the box to be moved/lifted b4 opening, plus some actual current packaging of a cell he got from a friend...created the illusion well... til the 'phone' was lifted (taped into tissue layer)... technically it was a cell phone, 1st (functional, 4rich, traveling exec)gen... bigger than the standard breifcase, req dc/lighter plug.

Has some deep issue of his kids/grandkids knowing anything in/adjacent to his fields if he doesn't. Hid 4hrs looking up all arduinos 13yrs ago, asked 4 a look @ a bboard, likely an obv/dumb/nonarduino error

@awesomeest it was to prove tiktok was dumb... friend was over kept talking about it. I said it sounded like spam and brain acid (aka actual acid being directly dumped on your still attached brain... i feel the same about the "slice of life" crap as a whole).
He pointed out my hypocrisy, in my own words... he was technically right, I was judging on innate personally biased conjecture as i had not tried/experienced either side of it.

If you watch with thought you'll be able to notice these facts:

-while willing to do tiktok, it certainly wasnt worth:
--Getting off the couch (in my case i do have the additional validity of a handicapped/extremely painful to attempt impromptu use of, leg... but tbh i don't think thatd have changed my willingness)
    --effort of a shirt
    --makeup or additional grooming

    -truly minimal forethought
--phone 'stand' was a ring holder>> nonfunctional left arm

-using facial muscles/expressions was beyond budget.

    - clicked the 1st suggested ++bs mods

  • 0
@awesomeest no it’s no longer funny at all… it’s abusive for someone to make you go thru pain just to get something on TikTok. Probably taking advantage of your autism, maybe perhaps im being judgy but I still think it’s flat out cruelty to force you into that. I can’t watch it again.
  • 0
@TeachMeCode lol... dude... I am so curious what the world looks/sounds/smells/etc like to you.

You realise I'm an adult right? Also, the idea that a typical human could take advantage of me, in any way... HYSTERICAL! and so far removed from reality that considering it, especially in the context provided is more trippy than a sheltered college freshman halfway through a philosophy 101 course and also on acid.

I literally had to stop typing and go back to re-read again trying to figure out where youre getting this idea of force or me being helpless... i was so enthralled in your twilight-zone-esq interp that I just realised the app is chinese.

Im handicapped (physically only, autism isnt an overall handicap... it's mostly just a steep/strange learning curve minus the neurotypical's innate frame of reference on normal humans and societal tropes/bs/etc)

Stuff like it being painful to walk is simply reality... that i sometimes use as a poor arguement for being lazy, sometimes valid
  • 0
@TeachMeCode ever considered that you/like-minded, well-intentioned, ppl are often part of the problem for societal understanding/acceptance of handicaps/general oddities?

    Teachers rel to this,
Worst: Honors Bio. Came back 2nd sem to find out every class period, they had a prayer time for me, with freq commentary/examples of why/how everyone should treat me when I came back. Plus tons of cards supposed to make me feel welcomed, understood and valued... many including things that made it very clear that i was being pprtrayed as a humble warrior facing utter devastation and painful tribulations.

Best: Gym- 1st day said, (nonchalantly, not loud, public or too private)she knew of a condition & surgeries w/my arm, that it may or may not impact mor3 of me physically and thought it could vary by day. Asked if that was the jist & if most recent surgery healed well/I was doing rel ok.(getting- was there need for extra caution.conveying- 'how are you feeling?/hope you're well' sentiment).

    @TeachMeCode
Same response as now, *shrug* I'm relatively ok.
Her: "glad to hear, lmk if there's any issues".

Gave a 'this is PE, we are gonna do __PE__, who's played hockey before?' Told class to get up, get hockey stuff/make teams w/o annoying immaturity.

As class moved, 'No clue if you can or should attempt floor hockey... *laugh* or even how i'd end up using a hockey stick w/1 hand. So how about you do or try what you think makes sense? And I'd prefer you not do whatever things could cause additional issues. Idk if when not participating youd wanna stick around, get a pass to the library... or how youd want me to explain it, you'd have to tell me. That all ok with you?"

The pile of conditionals in my head gone. Me: "I played a lot of street hockey, good thing there's a handicap." (Autistic monotone, great for dry humour). ... bursted laugh, her body language/expression relaxed(didn't seem tense b4) "great, I'm eager to see if you're effective"
  • 0
@TeachMeCode for the record, both were great people that i honestly respect and have interacted with, intentionally, several times beyond high school. Both did genuinely care and put a lot of consideration in... and if u think about it, a recently handicapped girl being in your normal 9th grade PE class after being gone for a large chunk of the 1st semester (which was including the end) is a much more unquiely fucked situation... especially if you consider my mother's attempt at 'helping' without asking... since my condition was so rare and so volatile in certain situations.

She got pamplets... all she could find. She didn't want to edit them because thatd be biased...whilst accurate, they said things like how the loud class bell can physically hurt (it did), suggesting any school to switch to a lower musical chime (imo ridiculous). I just guarded my arm against my stomach b4 bells... reduced vibrations fine

All teachers had gotten copies of these pamphlets.
  • 0
@awesomeest hey that’s how I was interpreting that post-as you being pressed by your friend into doing something you weren’t into like creating tiktok vids and having to go thru pain just for that.

I don’t know you inside and out and everything about your past and what you can do. Yeah sure I know some stuff from interactions chatting the past four months. I wasn’t there in Michigan with you when you made that vid, let alone my life.

I’ll admit that taking advantage of autism thing was the alcohol talking bringing out weird emotions lol. That wasn’t something I would say sober.

@awesomeest hey I never would’ve stopped you, never did attempt to stop you, not stopping you now and never WILL attempt to stop you from doing what you want that includes walking, doing phys ed class, exercising, soccer, making TikTok vids, im totally NOT like those Ned Flanders teachers who setup pray sessions for Awesomeest lol I was personally shocked when I read that!!
I’m not like those teachers, I’m super permissive and if I were there and you told me “I’m making a TikTok vid doing whatever” i wouldn’t be like “are you sure you won’t be in pain” etc.

Only difference is it sounded like he wanted you to go thru all that for a TikTok vid you didn’t want to do to begin with. You then posted how painful it was. Alcohol made me more triggered than I usually am and I responded like that lol.

@awesomeest Do what ur head sets out, Im not the kind who writes guidelines for anyone outside of README’s for guidelines for a dev team or tries to manipulate or control them, never was or will either. Want more happiness/sadness, more pain/freedom from pain, buy a nuclear bomb, hack the government, raise a kangaroo, form your own country, make a tv show, take up kung fu, improve your health, diminish your health, whatever, i respect/encourage your freedom. You don’t need a hall pass from me.

@TeachMeCode i suggest thinking before u type nonsense... especially the boomerang version of discounting the previous nonsense.

My friends stop me from doing dumb shit that i shouldn't all the time... like holding a glass with a hand that hasnt been able to hold a glass in nearly 18yrs... or trying to walk past my limits, etc... they just also respect that if i say im feeling ok that i am... one of my very few rules, i never lie to friends

@awesomeest you know my super impulsive weak as hell executive functioning ass by now ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.

@awesomeest im a total goofball in rl like last week when i saw a pic in Reddit that had scroll arrows to the sides ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I was tapping them trying to get the picture to change ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Or the number of impulse PR’s I pushed and had to frantically write “DO NOT MERGE” and warn everyone on slack…

You know Wiley coyote walking off the cliff in midair until he looks down and holds a “sucker” sign before plummeting to his death or when his dynamite doesn’t explode road runner and he races over and frantically tries to push the switch down to detonate it and ends up exploding himself? That’s me!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ if you met me outside the net you’re gonna get a free comedy show
