I bought a Thinkpad E470 laptop for my wife' bday. Because she loves Linux, My first obvious choice was a Thinkpad. I chose the model from Ubuntu Certified Laptop list and installed Ubuntu 16.04 (Based on their recommendation)

now:
THE FUCKING UBUNTU IS UNABLE TO DETECT WI-FI ADAPTOR. LIKE WHAT THE FUCK YOU WERE THINKING WHEN YOU PUT THE LAPTOP MODEL ON THAT FUCKING STUPID LIST? I WANT TO EXACTLY UNDERSTAND WHAT THE FUCK YOU WERE THINKING AND WHY YOU UPGRADED YOUR FUCKING KERNEL WITHOUT REVIEWING YOUR FUCKING LIST?

AND I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE FUCK LENOVO THOUGHT WHEN THEY RECOMMEND UBUNTU. WHY THEY STILL SELL THIS SHIT BASED ON THINKPAD' REPUTATION AND WHY THEY STILL SUGGEST THIS IS A LAPTOP FOR DEVELOPERS? NO THIS FUCKING SHITHOLE IS NOT FOR ME. IT'S DESIGNED FOR MASTERBATION WITHOUT INTERNET! BECAUSE IT'S NOT ABLE TO CONNECT TO INTERNET! YOUR MOTHER FUCKERS.
GARBAGE

    Why not just enjoy the computer without the Internet? A lot less wear and tear on the components.

    @Haxk20 No, it's a big problem when you are buying a certified hardware!

    @wolt I couldn't find a pic of it on garbage.
  • 3
    Hey, just get the lwlwifi package and you can continue

    It's a pci card. Just swap it until you learn how to make it work. :/

    @nbamaral I know how to enable it! You don't get the point. I did not have time for that shit and because of that, I specially selected a certified hardware. Do you understand the point? Read the Rant carefully before commenting.

    @iran
    Why the atitude? It's a rant not a memo. Read the suggestion, swap the problematic little piece, it's not like the all computer is not working. Fix It later when you have the time.

    @nbamaral A laptop without internet is like a man without penis. Harsh, but true. So forget it.

    Had this issue too. Just download the drivers and install it... although I remember that I had still some connection errors sometimes.

    When I installed Debian it worked out of the box. Still running it on my E470, it works great, had zero problems since then.

    @nbamaral Lenovo often has BIOS whitelists :/

    @7400
    I know :) I usually reflash them without them 😛
    He's probably missing the firmware file, or loading the wrong one, but I don't care anymore

    Just fix the problem. That's what we do

    Hmm... I'm sure a pinch of arch in there would fix ya problemo. I can't believe this laptop can't have wifi under a recent distro.

    @mzeffect
    Well it is because the drivers have a bad license. And Arch does not have a policy regarding the license on packet (stupid shit)
  • 0
    @Linux I guess it's fine like that. The main thing is that you get your wifi working which can be quite helpful.

    @mzeffect
    Well, the package lwlwifi.deb that you place in the "firmware" catalogue in your bootable device does solve it. Using a unstable distro does not.

    @mzeffect I tried Arch Linux. Did not recognize wifi adaptor. I finally managed to fix it but compiling rtl8892ce driver for kernel 4.11 but the Ubuntu 17.10 was a total mess. It even has not a way to add workspaces. So I uninstalled everything. Sad!
