What's the best keyboard (type/model) for a programmer in your opinion, based on your experience?

I always used the keyboards included with the PC, never thought much about that, but now I would like to invest in something better.
I found a lot of articles on internet, but each one says different things, so I'm sure the devRant community is more reliable.

Thanks in advance!

Below the one I'm using write now.

I use a cougar 200k, similar to the old thinkpad keyboard

I prefer blue/green switches and it has to be 90% since the numpad always annoys me, my favorite throughout like 50 is still the razer blackwidow TE, you can literally hammer it down and itll still work, especially handy for debugging. 😉

Qisan MagicForce, white version was 39 on amazon. Mechanical, blue switches. My only gripe is the lack of numeric pad but maaaan this keyboard works like a champ. I've dropped it a couple of times, its all dusty and shit but it works like a charm.

Any, as long as it has all the keys and isn't broken

I've grown to love the keyboard type of some laptops. An example of what I like is the keyboard on e.g. Msi ge62, steel series, although perhaps all Msi have what I say. I like the space between the keys, that way I find it easier to sense the limits of each key by touch, the feedback, the relatively small but adequate key depth, the fact that they are flat and their height is relatively small, just right. I can type with my fingers sort of floating on the keyboard, without ever having a key get stuck and having to press again - many external keyboards with similar layout have terrible key feedback and keys frequently get stuck at fast typing . My old Vaio laptop has had this type too. I have failed to find an external keyboard of the exact same type and quality . Whoever knows what I am taking about, I would appreciate it if you could point me to similar external keyboards .

For the longest time I used a unicomp. It started having issues last year. It probably can be repaired but I bought a vortex race keyboard as a quieter replacement.

I now really like cherry my clear switches.

I actually really want to make a dactyl but I am afraid it will fuck up my muscle memory.

I got the cherry mx 3.0 with blue switches. It's a nice keyboard but I would like to have a flat keyboard. So now I am waiting for the first keyboards with the new flat switches cherry presented this year.

@Nanos this keyboard isnt being manufactured anymore but you can move the numpad to the left or right side, since it's removable.

It also isn't mechanical but eh i've had it for a long time, when i get the funds to i'll buy something new but back when i bought this it was pretty cheap.

The model m is pretty cool

I enjoy my Kinesis Freestyle2. My only complaint is that even though it connects to my laptop via Bluetooth, the two halves of the keyboard are still tethered to one another.

    TL;DR 20€ - non-mechanical - awesome
I use a Cherry Stream 3.0. Although it is only 20€ on Amazon, the build quality is really good. It has the media keys you need, lasered symbols so you don't scratch them off, it is really resistant to water. It does not have fancy Cherry MX switches, but the key travel is good. I really like the pretty minimal design. If it broke today I'd buy it again.

I really prefer a compact, tenkeyless mechanical keyboard or any keyboard where the end key is close to the enter/arrow keys

Edit: The one I'm using now is the Drevo Grammr

Code keyboard with clear switches seems really nice, however it’s a bit expensive to purchase outside of the US, at least it is here in Denmark due to 25% vat :(

I’m using the Steelseries Apex 350, it has a lot of extra buttons which are perfect to bind shortcuts of an IDE to

I use a Logitech G610. Great mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Red switches and custom media controls. No distracting colorful lights, only clean white lights with alpha control. Best keyboard I have ever used, so happy with it
