Seethe4599yTextmate to Atom. Same here I LOVE the customization. I've recently decided to learn Java as well, and I've got to say, though they are ugly Eclipse and Netbeans are seriously powerful. So basically I have no preference any more, it all depends on the project.

I was a sublime guy, started monkeying with brackets, and then abandoned both for atom. It just feels better ... I could jump back to ST3 without issue, tho.
-
I absolutely love brackets. I switched from sublime to brackets. Haven't tried atom
-
iamnull1969y@jfn0802 Sublime is great - I know I could switch back without issue, but there's something about Atom's plugin manager that sold me. Plus the community is great- just as Sublime's was/still is. I didn't really do a great job of selling it lol, it just feels nice.

jfn0802589y@iamnull I was thinking about making the jump too but wanted to see why you liked it more. Thank you.

rolle889yMe too, ST3 user for years. Took me 10 minutes to switch with 10+ packages. Loving open source and customization possibilities. Not much of a python fan, so there's that, too. You can find my settings at https://github.com/ronilaukkarinen/... and https://github.com/ronilaukkarinen/...

orion-ix3549yI made the switch too but in the other direction. Haven't looked back since. But for dev, nothing beats IntelliJ in Darkula mode.
-
I used Sublime for the longest time but recently it's lost its traction which has left many concerned and looking for an alternative.
-
I also switched from Sublime to Atom. Sublime definately has its strengths as far as performance but the customization and package system in Atom is a better trade off in my opinion.
-
For all my personal coding at home I use Visual Studio Code. I've found it to be a really pleasant editor.
-
Sublime still starts significantly faster than the rest (Atom,Brackets,VsCode) so I still keep it around for quick editing.
But if I'm working on a project, an annoying extra startup second doesn't matter, so I prefer one of the others -
deadpixel969yTried atom and it feels too clunky, stuck with sublime - PHPstorm is waiting for a try out next, looks awesome
-
orion-ix3549y@deadpixel agreed, Atom had a massive startup lag time when I used it last year on my MBP. Switched to Sublime at that time and what can I say...the startup time was subliminal xD but PHPStorm is the mothership. It'll have a startup delay, but that's expected of it

I was a Sublime Text 3 purist for a long time... recently made the switch to Atom. I honestly haven't looked back. Anyone else make the same move?
