Cruiser15018ywhy are people downvoting all the time? I agree with the rant and get a -1? don't seem right y'all.
-
dfox428288yThey really are ridiculous looking. I don't see how saying that makes anyone a "hater." It's just a fact that people are pointing out. Doesn't mean they won't still use Apple devices.
-
dfox428288yAlso, just to be clear, there's a zero tolerance policy for hostile comments when you disagree with something. @Markshall has been banned indefinitely for his comment.
I really can't understand how some people are so sensitive to someone making an Apple joke. It's almost scary in all seriousness. -
dfox428288y@Cruiser agreed. I just removed the downvoting privileges of the person who was -- comments they disagreed with using a blatantly false downvote reason.

Starting from iPhone 3GS, I got every apple product. But I'm pretty sure I'm not going for AirPods.
-
dfox428288y@complxalgorithm agreed. I've never been able to, or even wanted to use the standard Apple earphones. And the people speaking out about the form/function in the comments here are all iPhone users, that's the funniest part. I think some people actually believe that no iPhone user can ever question Apple's decisions.
I've probably bought $6,000+ worth of Apple stuff in my lifetime between my laptop, phones, iPods, etc., but that doesn't mean I won't call them out when I think their new product looks dumb or is a bad idea. And not eating up everything they throw out there certainly doesn't make you a hater. -
@dfox they have made some absolutely gorgeous products but the decision making at the corporate level confuses the fuck out of me sometimes, with the headphones thing being an obvious one. like, what could their thought process have possibly been for them to conclude that wireless headphones for a cell phone was the best choice??
-
dfox428288y@Gauthier personally I think they do. I haven't used a wireless headset in a while, but the last device I had was a cheap Bluetooth hands free device about 6 years ago, and it was much more sleek than these Apple earphones.
-
As dumb as it looks, it's one step closer to the invisible technology sci-fi future that we all dream of.
I won't get one but I applaud the early adopters who are helping us get to that future faster. Much faster than if it were solely up to the rest of us. -
tnnn3898y@Moicanos I've heard that Apple will release a special iHolder that will link two of those together with a cable, so that they won't fall to the ground. There will be also a special, premium iHolder+ version that will add additional cable that will connect headphones to the iPhone. By using it, you will be also able to charge them while listening to the music!

Disclaimer, I hate Apple products and I do not own a single one of them.
I am also an audiophile and seriously fallow new leaps of technology when it comes to headphones, wired or wireless, Active or passive speakers and record players passionately.
I grant everyone arguing that they look like crap, but then again so was their wired back in the day when Steve launched the original Ipod. The backlash was so much they had to take on an add campaign worth millions of dollars to make them look hip to the target audience before the sales really took off. (This is also mentioned in Steve Jobs Exclusive Biography.
Also they have managed to jam pack these ugly airpods with a shitload of tech which will go a long way towards the betterment of the wireless earphones technology like 5 hours of battery life, the ability to use both or one at a time, the custom Bluetooth chip, infrared sensors and accelerometers.
I know these are claims so far but they usually land very close to their claims. -
....Will I buy one!!? Absolutely NOT! But you can be damn sure I will be taking them for a spin courtesy of my rich ass Apple products and accessories fan boy audiophile wanna be friend once they are released ha ha!
-
tnnn3898y@Letmecode The fact that it's sometimes hard to tell if some is just making fun of Apple or not, speaks for itself IMO ;)
-
@complxalgorithm they are ugly and notoriously uncomfortable. But what I don't understand is why everyone seems to be against wireless headphones. Why is "less wires" a bad thing? I won't be buying AirPods or Beats, but I sure will be getting something else on the market within the next year. Until then, the adapter will work great for me.
The fact that the Moto and the iPhone are doing this is going to push the wireless headphone market forward to being higher quality at a lower price point. More competition.
Besides, anyone who is truly an audiophile is probably using an external DAC and amp for their listening experience anyways. I used to back when I had time/money/care to pursue that hobby. It's not like the built in DAC in Apple's devices has ever won awards...in fact, for a long time, it was known for being garbage (not sure if that's still the case).
And finally...if you're still using an aux cable to listen to music in your car...its probably time for an upgraded stereo. -
@Treebasher Not everyone is against wireless! I consider myself an audiophile and I am rocking Bang & Olufsen's H5 and has never been happier with my decision. They are proof that you can go wireless and still truly enjoy your music on the go!
-
@Pythoneer I popped in to make that comment too! It's as though no one in Design or Marketing ever had a toddler.

Apple's thinking is that wires are not cool and the buds add to their minimalist design strategy. Also, they gain a little space on the phone itself to add something new.
I have not tried the buds so I can't tell whether or not I'll like them better but generally I prefer Bluetooth headphones. -
MaccaMc5538yI don't understand why everyone is so surprised. Its more surprising that Apple used the 3.5mm in the first place after going out of their way to ensure that nothing you own already will ever work with their products.
This looks dumb as hell 🙌🏼
