@irene three danish, and a dutch guy. Two Canadians. Two US and one probably asian (sorry I didn't look him up xD)
For such a small country as Denmark they have quite a few language developers xD -
gthathol956y@Codex404 Have you ever tried learning Danish? They are basically forced to develop alternative languages to communicate with the rest of the world ;)
-
@gthathol yeah and it wasn't that difficult, but I'm dutch. And dutch has quite some similarities with danish.
-
@irene you see them as abominations. I see them as God's. Everyone has his perspective. But you can't deny the fact that the web is powered by php and JS. And I don't see that will change for the next decade.
-
@irene web is the platform of the future. Everything gets connected to it. Whatever can't connect to it will die eventually.

I'm pretty sad that my favorite language Haskell was "designed by committee" ages ago, although I'm a fan of Simon Peyton Jones who is one of the major contributors to the modern Haskell compilers.

@bittersweet SPJ ftw
The man is awesome.
Though reading his papers is slightly difficult. But they're papers, not tutorials anyway -
Rich Hickey (creator of Clojure) also deserves a lot of respect.
His talks tend to be little goldmines (especially "Simple made Easy"):

@brano88 Yeah Rob Pike and Ken Thompson together. They're also the people who came up with UTF-8.

@bioDan Inaccurate meme, TimBL created the web (HTTP, HTML, server + browser), not the internet 😝
-
bioDan56296y@bittersweet true brother!
The meme doesn't say he created the internet, although its somewhat implied since he created its most prevalent building blocks -
p1ERRson666y@Codex404 its a scientific fact Danish children learn to speak later than other kids. A difficult language
-
hjk10156966y@ckoulatsi good luck with even accessing the web without an OS or Browser.
I hate unfounded language bashing. Usually it's PHP and JS being bashed but you are now part of the problem. -
@hjk101 I don't understand how you came with that conclusion. And why am I now part of (which) the problem?

sauronjs2166y@irene I like JavaScript. Recently all the scripts I have been are in node. I like the fact that I don't need to deal with multi-threaded programming. It easily compares to few hundred threads in parallelism due to fact that most of the time threads are actually waiting. Not talking about games or environment where threads/processes are required for performance. I usually need to make API/db calls and some processing on it.
Thank you
