It took me 5!!!! fucking hours to do it but I did.

I got linux to work with my RTX 2070 oh my god

Most of that time was spent figuring out what exactly was wrong because the problem is hella common but the cause doesn’t seem to be so i was sent off in the completely wrong direction a bunch of times

Apparently Nouveau doesn’t support my GPU yet and installing the binary driver from nvidia seemed impossible but i pulled it off thanks to some random stranger on askubuntu.com

Unfortunately i got it working on elementary os instead of ubuntu so now i have to go install ubuntu 🀷‍♂️

    At CES 2019 (JAN 8-12), AMD will introduce new 7nm processors and 7nm AMD Navi GPU.

    I hope that the waiting to upgrade my PC was worthπŸ˜…

    Oh EW 2080. That is a bullshit card you know that right ?

    You should have waited for AMD to release Navi.

    Dammit. AMD opensource drivers already support hardware that wasnt even released yet. You see the difference here ?

    @git-fuckyou Waiting for that!

    @Haxk20 AMDs open source drivers nowadays are better than the proprietary ones.
    In terms of speed, compatibility, energy efficiency, simply in terms of all!

    @Haxk20 it's even more: by the changes in those drivers people know that new hardware is incoming even if it wasn't yet announced (rx 590 and recent non-consumer card)

    How much is 5!!!!?
    I know that 5! is 120

    Well that's quite a lot... http://m.wolframalpha.com/input/...

    Return faulty product to the store

    @irene Exactly. But that i call a fucking support. That is the proper way to do it. AMD is fast as fuck with open-source drivers. And hell yeah open-source drivers are much much better.

    UPDATE: only took me 2 hours to get it working on ubuntu

    Guess I'll with amd qhen I finally decide to build a pc

    @git-fuckyou I don't want to hear another goddamn peep out of AMD the way their last few cards failed me only after a few months.

    @kshep92 sorry to hear this, my card is working fine for now over a year and I never had problems.

    @Haxk20 some people requires cuda.
    Amd is not always an option.
  • 0
    @shelladdicted there are alternatives for cuda. Also, 1080 supports cuda as well. So?
  • 0
    @irene So amd is not an always an option.
    Yes nvidia drivers sucks.
    But something they are required.

    Amd is better but does not have cuda (opencl is not good as cuda)
