Don't I know it, feels like this fucking update is taking an eternity, come on Windows 😡

    FreeBSD takes three (!) restarts for upgrading between releases, even point releases (e.g. 11.3->11.4).
    Steps are:
    1. Upgrade kernel -> Restart
    2. Upgrade system programs and libraries -> Restart
    3. Replace all user software with one built for the new release -> Restart

    Debian takes like. Five minutes at most?
    Most updates take less than 15 seconds.

    Windows with a ssd takes seconds 😂
    I don't even see that screen anymore.

    Might be time for an upgrade, windows getting hardware heavy despite claiming it can "work" on low end PCs.

    I guess they are right, it does work.... very badly.

    @C0D4

    False. My windows parsec machine has 32gb of ram and all its storage is nvme. It takes 30-45 minutes to do a major update.

    @bahua 🤔Ive got 1903 downloading now.

    I'll see how long it takes once downloaded.

    @bahua ok 2 hours to download.

    But from hitting restart to being back to the login screen for 1903 release
    total time: 6 min 37 seconds

    Not quite a few seconds but if you hit reboot walk away make a coffee and come back it's done 🤷‍♂️

    This is just calling for everyone to recommend Linux, so where are you "BTW I use arch" people?

    @lucaIO linux is amazing, btw i use Windows

    @lucaIO hold on, let me phone a friend.

    *calls @haxk20 * Yo, I need a Arch guy.

    @root already said what needed to be said.

    @Haxk20 I can confirm that. Running manjaro on a cheap SSD on shitty old hardware and updates run entire worlds faster than on windows on the same machine. But to each their own I guess

    @Haxk20 This is literally the argument I always bring up around my friends lol. For my part it is even easier as I neither game nor can I afford adobe software

    Ouuh sh!t
    Here we go again

    My plan, once we move into a bigger house where my office won't also double as my daughter's nursery, will be to run windows with a GPU passthrough, and eliminate the dedicated parsec machine(which I barely ever use anyway. I update it more than I ever play anything on it) so I can buy nicer hardware.
