I usually give up by setting wrapping to none and plopping the image in the middle of some empty lines. Or I just don't use Microsoft word.

Then... Try it with latex! (Think you can give a figure a "h" flag to place it "here" in the text, but that will usually not place it actually there, so you can say "H" like "YES REALLY HERE!" but even then the algorithms might still know it better than you...)

Just make a website instead of the word document. CSS is probably going to be a lot less difficult xD
