I like to brag about tech inside my tools, anywhere, anytime

Skylake pentiums are easily as powerful as prev gen i3s. Why does it matter whats written on a cardboard box if the computing performance is significantly higer even in low end cpus every year. In fact im thinking about slapping together a g4400 pc setup.

What is wrong with it? I dont get it really

Don't they still make pentiums? I'm sure they do.

@linuxer4fun you are talking to someone who regularly plays morrowind

@RazorSh4rk are pentiums really that good? Wow!

    @jirehstudios
They do, the are quite ok. Amazing OC capabilites

@linuxer4fun yup. The anniversary edition Pentium G I remember overclocked like a beast. The new. Gen 6 can outperform i5s from 3-4 gen I believe. They are dual ore parts with no HT though. Games like CSGO, Dota2, Cities:Skylines, LoL would run without any bottlenecking on these little beasts.

I have a Pentium. Great budget processor. Main complaint is that it doesn't support virtualization (so no VMs).

I have a Pentium Lenovo S210 Touch laptop. I was able to develop our Unity 3D game school project here with no complaints. I just don't know what gen this is. But I wanna peel it off. I feel embarrassed at times.

I have a 2n1 Acer laptop with a Pentium from 2015...OK performance for what I do but fanless and it has a decently long battery life...Last years Pentium N3700 ain't bad.

It's not meant to be a powerhouse but I can run a VM on it, make hangouts phone calls and have 20 tabs open in chrome while listening to music and downloading a TV show and of course sublime with my current project and a remote session or two running at once 😁

I was actually pleasantly surprised at the technology improvements in CPU power and battery life...But the last time I upgraded to a new laptop was in 2009 so a lot can happen in 7 years. My budget laptop is comparable in performance to my mid-high range 2006 gaming desktop.

@arcadesdude oh really? Tmere will always be something, that manages to blow my mind away

Yeah processors technology even on the low end machines has vastly improved recently. I wish disk speed would be faster though even SSD and flash seem to be the bottleneck for working with lots of files and the main speed decrease.
At work I get to set up new workstations and laptops and the new laptops are really performing great especially the new HP elitebooks which seem on an unofficial assessment to be similar to my high-end 2012 gaming PC. Only thing they're missing is high end graphic cards but the built in graphics aren't that bad. Those new 7th gen mobile i7 processors are beasts!

@arcadesdude I mean, with linux everything gets even boosted more. (as u can tell by my name, I hate linux. NOT) . XD

@linuxer4fun True. Linux certainly does extend the life of an older system and it has lots of uses. I use it mostly to help fix window systems and recover data. Everyone has their preferred distro and OS though. Back in the day I ran Slackware installed and tested out various distros. I didn't like Ubuntu that much but Manjaro is not bad. I've always been put off by the insane amount of doc diving required for little things that happen in Linux. It's gotten better over the years but I'd still avoid it now as a daily OS because of all my past negative history with it with driver issues and the whole package dependency issues that drove me nuts when I gave it a fair shot. I'm also locked into a Windows world but used Mac OS for a few months to see what the hype was about.

@arcadesdude already heard of deepin os? Really sleek out of the box distro. Reccomend to everyone.

@arcadesdude I am able to run it on my selfmade goming pc (even Nvidia) without ONE single bug (except for translation, but it is ok, as dee'in is new)

@linuxer4fun ah yes I have heard of it, haven't tried it. It looks clean kind of Win10 ish.
