SAO's world seed. Its not creating content out of nowhere but the concept is that the engine uses mitology, history and in general the internet to find and create new suitable content based on them for the existing part of the game. Its quite an interesting idea in my opinion :)
-
Procedurally generated games are interesting in theory, but they rarely create anything interesting.
-
@deusprogrammer Maybe just nobody has actually done it right yet. I mean No man's sky does actually produce some interesting results.
Another possibility would be to make the players generate content as you can see it in many games already. -
@aadilp yeah imagine If no mans sky didn't have like 5 devs. Imagine if they had 500.
-
@aadilp what do you mean? I found that no mans sky had potential but was lacking due to the limited amount of devs to work on the game.
-
aadilp12848y@JavaRules I think the idea of having procedurally generated content means you want less devs on your team. No Man's Sky could have been great, but they certainty didn't need hundreds of devs.
-
@aadilp how in your opinion could it have been great? If the 5 devs worked on it for like 10 years? There's only so much that many devs can do.
-
aadilp12848y@JavaRules Of course they could have used more devs. I'm just saying you don't need as much as 500 devs. You could invade a country with that many devs.
-
@deusprogrammer thats why the creation is bonded/based on history and mith, from that point you could have a pretty solid base. Amd I'm not talking just about just story content but perhaps new game mechanics, new skills, things that entirely new to the game. Problem is that it makes more complexity bc you the engine have to balance the game according to the new mechanics.
-
@nblackburn fair one, but do you think that 5 is enough? Because apparently it was enough for them to release a game and get a class action law suit for false advertising in the uk. So how many devs is enough?
