Server -> Cloud
Web 2.0 -> Web 3.0
HDD -> S3 bucket
It's all a marketing terminology.
These are my thoughts. -
so you have no idea what those terms mean, but jumbled together a bunch of apps&services and some _possible_ replacements?
-
Feels like yesterday everyone was banging on about web 2.0. Still don't understand what that was all about, so for 3 I'm just giving up 🤷♂️

I’ve never heard of half of these. I’m getting to that point in my life where I’ve seen this cycle enough times that I just want to burn it all down and build a cabin in the woods somewhere. The world is not all that much better for this.
-
I still have no idea what web 3 is. And I am not sure if it is a real thing in the first place.
So far it looks like a hype word about technology smth, without any clear set requirements what it is -
@darkwind My boss started talking about Web3 being a thing we needed to start doing. I can’t even begin to figure out what that means. If I had to write a requirements document or user stories, nothing would be written because it’s not a real thing. It’s just marketing buzzwords.

@Burgundxyz they have some kind of integration with Solana now so they can call it a web3 browser. I guess. Technically I'm pretty sure it's just a wallet built into the browser but I don't really care enough to do more research about web3 nonsense.

LBRY (what Odysee is a frontend for) is okay and Brave is pretty good, though I do wish they based their browser on Firefox instead of Chromium. Would be better for engine diversity and suit Eich better considering his past leadership at Mozilla.
Beyond this I'm not seeing much promise. Filecoin seems the most promising immediately useful technology out of the remaining things and that's saying something -
And I wouldn't even dignify Presearch until those guys make everything they have free and open source. If Matt Wells can do it with Gigablast and the devs of Yacy can do it, then so can Presearch. Proprietary software is antithetical to decentralization and software freedom

nitnip18142yAll of those are just smoke and hype though. Brave is just another chromium browser at the end of the day, just with an ad blocker built in.

i think brave mobile requires google play services otherwise it crashes. So i use firefox on my phone
Thoughts?
