Me: (putting headphones on)

Boss: You are an engineer. You need to focus. You cannot multitask. Nobody can. You need to concentrate on the work and deliver. If you ...blah.blah.blah.

Me: 😃 hmm yes you are right (dying on the inside)

Boss: if you are listening songs, your attention is towards that, you learn nothing of what you are working on.

Me: 😃 True Indeed.

Inner me 👿: Motherfucker. I use headphones so I don't have to listen to you giggling about with your mates in a bragging battle, in a language I do not understand, which is noise to me.
And technically, I do not listen to songs, I listen to music, while doing repeated tasks, so that I can overcome the boredom and do it quick in a rhythm.
But you wouldn't understand now, would you, YOU OLD FART, you fuckin Remnant of the Ancient times.

You just have to tell him what "Inner you", said, but I suggest more in a kindly way. :P

@aldoblack I told him that music helps me concentrate. But that fucker just wouldn't listen.
"You are an engineer. You need to focus. You cannot multitask" - was like a stupid ass lil wayne rap remix on repeat. He has told this exact same thing to 2 more people who used to use headphones.

@GrizzlyMagnum Well, you need to change company. In my company they don't care what you do. You might take the day off, or even the week. They just need the project before the deadline. If you don't deliver it then you get negative feedback. Good thing that the deadline of the project is put by an Senior software engineer, so he pushes the deadline by 30% an developers can work in peace.

Write a formal letter with explanation and request a formal reply. Then start a workers union :D

possibly report this as harassment to the HR

Seriously, where I work deadline, or rather the sprint, is more important than what I do while doing my job. Theoretically I should be 9..5 at the office, but I never am. Sometimes 6am..2pm sometimes 2pm..9pm sometimes working at home, sometimes not at all. Sometimes sitting at a desk, sometimes lying on the floor.
As long as I don't get into other people's work and their private space - it's fine.

At other company boss complained that I keep fidgeting on my phone and not paying attention. He stopped after few times I repeated couple of his last sentences.

It's just that, with normal people you can reason. Otherwise talk to someone who can reason with them. Otherwise change your job. There is no point in sticking to the job when company's organizational culture is wrong.

So he tell you what you can and can not do? I think not. Kill it with a chair!

@mt3o read my other rant about what communication means to my boss. There is no workaround in my case. That fellow has too much authority. So I'm gonna just sit tight a few more months. Then quit and find something better .
