I'm trying my best to like stackoverflow but it keeps pushing me back. My answer to questions ratio is around 8:2. Had a descent 900 reputation then some psychotic e-stalker comes and downvotes all my questions and answers and I'm only left with 700 reputation now. Why would anyone do this?

It's simple! SO is full of self righteous basement dwellers who have no life and feel empowered by their SO reputation.

Fuck. I'm new to this and that makes me afraid to even make an SO account.

my guess would be, low self-esteem + hurt ego + too much spare time.

Someone asked an off topic question in Stack Overflow about security and I answered it directing them to the security exchange. A person commented saying it wasn't an answer and I should have commented instead. I'm so new I don't have comment privileges. I get it though. It has good and bad parts like every community. Don't be discouraged.

I don't get why people care so much about rep. I use it for what it's actually meant for and have built up a decent reputation just using it normally.

Some people it seems care more about the rep than actually helping people/finding answers.

Can I say this type of behavior seems to be fairly restricted to stack overflow, security exchange seems to be ok with answering dumb questions providing its not "how do I hack my friends Facebook"

@rusty-hacker thanks a lot but my rant was not about the rep, it's about those shitty assholes who exist in the community who give stack overflow a bad reputation.

I deleted my account. Lol. Who gives a fuck about my SO?

It seems that the cheap psycho is still not satisfied, all my posts are serial downvoted again. If the mods don't take any action, it's good bye forever. I hope he rots in hell.

There is a script running on StackOverflow which will undo this kind of serial voting.

Off topic: it's easy to bash StackOverflow, but the truth is that most questions have already been asked, so do a little research before asking 'how to convert a string to uppercase in Python' 😉

@Neftas whatever you wrote in your "off topic" section makes no sense whatsoever. Anyway most of them were answers not "how to convert a string to uppercase in Python" questions. That's a baseless assumption about my posts. If many people bash something then there is a reason behind it. 😉
