Do you ever wonder why the UK public sector has such a bad computer system? This! This is why!!! What a frigging waste of money!!!! Every computer in the school has this stupid set up!!!

Maybe this is to make the monitors useful if you want to unplug from the PC and attach to the HDMI on a laptop or something like that? I'm grasping at straws. It really is pretty silly.

One of our clients is Hamburg Wasser, a pretty big firm here. Believe me or not, we are doing the exact same thing. We noticed that the majority of the used HP Machines have trouble with the DVI out. Most of the monitors were bought before DP became the standard and throwing them out and replacing them would have been costly. So the decision was made to buy a ton of these adapters and use the DP Port on the machines.
Not a single problem since then and much money saved.
It's not always what it looks like, sometimes there's a reason for it

Maybe that's a HDMI to DVI-I converter because the DVI port on the computer is only DVI-D ?

Is the Ethernet cable also not plugged in?

The dvi outputs on these hp machines are fucked by default. It's much easier to just get an adapter

A lot of machines give you "options" but only the plugs under all the other connections wirk for some reason. It's rather dumb, and more than a little annoying.

@Kimmax I think the point is there's already a DVI port on the computer. It's not clear why the adapter is necessary at all...

You get the cable for free in the box. So why not use it ;-)
