In my windows environment, if something breaks beyond a setting change or a driver installation, you're reformatting the computer. I hate it.

@NoMaDhOoK yup, especially if you've setup dot files and an install file with all your common tools that you run once Linux or macOS is reinstalled

I remember reinstalling windows for my brother because some critical files got magically corrupted, and i tried to figure out why. Failed, even windows' "Reset this PC" failed 🤔

Mhm honestly I am using windows for more than a decade now and honestly (without looking at Windows ME and Vista) I was pretty satisfied with the OS as it is.
The only thing that bugs me now ist that my windows that I updated from 7 now has some real issues with index creation and refreshing state in the explorer.
These machines all had some sort of dual boot setups - but I was really into gaming that days therefore Windows always was my first boot priority. Now I boot it primarily into MacOS.

In 2010 I bought a mac book pro which I use until today. And I think the thing I like the most about macs is the OS. For me it combines​ best of both worlds. Linux like experienced - coated with an opinionated layer which barely needs any setup.

Back from my long post: Don't bash windows that hard - imho it is not as shabby as everybody makes it sound.

@M0dev we work on out own laptops so that isn't really the problem. The problem is C# (still, dotnet core exists) and WPF. From like week 3 onwards, every program will have a WPF GUI. So running Linux will be tricky

Sounds like a horrible culture if you happen to prefer Windows and thus might have missed a few amazing developers (and coworkers) or worse even pre-bullied them to use Linux and not enjoy their job for however long they last :/

funny, my personal experience with linux, since ever, across several attempts to be using it throught 2005-2020 is that everything's broken by default until I spend 2-6 hours per thing to fix it... by copypasting sequences of some arcane incantations into terminal, which I suspect not even the one who suggested them understands, and they are just being passed down generations by that very same kind of copypasta tradition (or, if you're called a linux wizard, bruteforce memorization).
