Which Programming Laptop do you recommend? It should be light, thin and 13". My budget is 1800$. My current favorite would be a Macbook Pro but I was always a Windows kinda guy so I'm not really sure...

    Dell XPS 13?

    Macbook pro will be the best option if I am at your place. I was windows user for like 10 years and just recently switch to mac os x and this is one of the decision I wont regret

    Try Surface Book 2 .. It's a beast !

    New razer blade stealth

    Yeah but its kinda expensive, too... I feel like the pricing on devices like the HP Spectre x360 is a little better, right? @Prk123

    I got myself an hp spectre 15inch last month i7 16gb ram 4k screen works as a touch pad too and looks goddamn sexy. And its about 800 bucks cheaper than a vomparable macbook pro. I put ubuntu and intelliJ on it. Its fast as hell.

    Really like that one but isn't it more for Gamers? @gsharm5u

    @pascal-dev

    Surprisingly no! ๐Ÿ˜Š
    It doesn't have a dGPU. It's a thin and light ultra book. It doesn't even have the rgb accent. It's black and grey aluminum.

    Look it up.

    @gsharm5u it has the nvidia graphics card though. I dont game so i dont know if thats enough but for coding which is what the question is i think its the best value for money.

    Nope that the regular razer laptop not stealth. It needs razer core for adding a gpu.

    What about the Spectre x360 with 8.Gen Processors? @mo3pheus

    @pascal-dev. I bought the high end x360 retailed at 1499 on best buy 1700 after taxes. Mine has the nvidia graphics card. Its fast on windows but if u swutch to ubuntu its lightning quick. I am talking sub 7 second bootup.

    Wow that's crazy! Just that I need to use Windows because of the MS Office @mo3pheus

    @pascal-dev. Check out the reviews man its better than macbook pro.
  • 0
    Yeah you're right. @mo3pheus

    But checked the x360 in Store once and the keyboard and trackpad were really awful... Maybe it was just this one device but it was like really really bad... @mo3pheus

    @pascal-dev well the 13 inch model fits ur budget better... The processors and GPU on SB2 are better than spectre. But again it depends on ur requirements, Spectre itself is a piece of beauty

    Ok I looked at the Blade Stealth but still it's kinda expensive, in particular if I want the 8. Gen i7.... I mean on the Macbook I would only have a 7th Gen i5 but it wouldn't be slower because MacOS right?

    @pascal-dev dude i honestly have no idea what you are talking about. The hardware keyboard and tracjing pad on the spectre 360 are amazing just go a best buy near you and play with it. Youll be satisfied. Just dont judge the laptop by a beaten display model.
  • 0
    Ok will do that soon! You're probably right about the beaten display model๐Ÿ˜‚@mo3pheus

    How about the lenovo thinkpad T series?
    I own the T430 and it's great.
  • 1
    Never really thought about a Lenovo... I'll look it up @Michelle

    Microsoft Surface Book! It's awesome!

    Dell XPS are the best and very reliable
  • 0
    Aero 15. But make sure it's the new batch so you don't have to deal with keyboard issues.

    Thinkpads are always nice for programming, particularly the models with the old style keyboard. The T420 has supplied me with more than enough power to make it through the day, despite being almost 6 years old now. You can pick up the (at the time) higher end models for $200 on Amazon. Just keep an eye out for the batteries. Mine was completely dead within the first month and needed replaced.

    windows on a mac?

    What kind of dev are you? If your focus is mobile, then yeah, you pretty much want a Mac since you can do both Android and IOS natively. Plus, it works wonders with most web related tech since most tools are very nix centric.

    Get a mac book pro and boot camp it

    ... better yet instal linux on it
  • 1
    I usually just get a Lenovo (as they tend to have pretty good ones for a kind of good price) and then install Linux on it, as I like my Terminal (not sure if the Ubuntu Bash on Win10 is any good, but a friend of mine loves it, so you could try that too)

    @jhh2450 I'd kill for an XPS 13. They look amazing!
  • 0
    @connorboucher Same! But my budget would've only allowed me to get a basic one, so I had to pass on it. Perhaps I'll get one in the future.
  • 1
    @jhh2450 I'm still in high school and don't have a job (although I'm currently trying to start freelance web development) so my laptop is about 15 years old ;-;
  • 0
    @connorboucher I got a new laptop as a graduation present. But the laptop I had until then was about 8 years old. I use it to watch movies and shit on sketchy sites because the cable at my University is shit.
  • 1
    @jhh2450 R.I.P. ;-;

    At least you got a new one I guess. What are you using now?
  • 0
    @connorboucher An HP Envy. It's got an i7, 8GB ram, 512 gb SSD. Had I gotten an XPS 13, it'd be like half that in terms of specs.
  • 1
    @jhh2450 Luckily I have a decent PC. It's running an i5 instead, with a 2tb hdd.
    Hopefully I can afford a laptop that runs better than my raspberry pi in the future!
