y'all, I think I might've got the job. Small chance maybe not, but it's looking good. fingers crossed.
-
@Grumm I mean not in the same project lol. They're both great on their own.
-
@jestdotty Lol sounds like you're selling yourself short big time - Exhibit A
-
@jestdotty are you recruiting roommates from halfway houses or something? What the fuck?
-
@lungdart thanks for that perspective! I'll try just letting go and going through it next time one hits. Easier said than done though, because the impulse is definitely to resist it. As you said, this just makes it worse. Mine usually aren't quite the same, but I can see a parallel in that much at least.
-
windows is the fucking worst. I don't even really get the reluctance/resistance to using Linux, whether you're a "techie" or not. It's better, even if all you want to do is waste your time gaming. I used to give windows a pass before my current job, but just seeing how fucking stupid windows fanboys are has convinced me that neither microshit nor its users are worthy of the benefit of the doubt.
-
it may not yet be "socially acceptable" to pregame before meetings, but it should be.
-
@mostr4am That's fucking right!
-
is there any other kind? My company uses an intercom, because email is too fucking complicated, apparently, and I'm legitimately losing my god damned mind. If you're addicted to being a fucking cunt who wastes everyone's time, at least do it in email where I can ignore you in peace.
We had an all hands meeting yesterday so that the managers could joke around and grab ass about matters utterly unrelated to business. I've tried to explain that these constant pointless interruptions are expensive, not to mention disruptive and infuriating to me personally, but it's just one more thing that they don't listen to me about. -
@kiki people are still joking about IE? I haven't even seen it in the wild in years now.
-
@jestdotty oh god! so not what I was thinking then 😬
-
@jestdotty was "watch people die" the snuff film one or the funny one? Also reddit sucks
-
@spoiledgoods I mean honestly, yeah. If you can't submit a small and focused pr, don't do it at all. One of the few times where meetings aren't superfluous is when going over a refactoring commit
-
LMAO I don't think LLMs are ready for this place
-
helps to scream into a pillow or abuse substances or whatever

someone once said: "high school never really ends"
-
@Demolishun as far as we know, anyway
-
Seconded that reddit is a bottom tier shithole now. 4Chan is more respectable. That and part of why devrant is so genius is that it's a topically walled garden.
I've gotten a little bit of enjoyment out of the social component of github, so I guess I'd recommend that. -
@netikras yeah, I'm sure that would be totally fine. Seems safe enough
-
Hahaha what the fuck?! What kind of PR is that big? Hang in there fr
-
@Jifuna I'm going to amend what I said about hyprland earlier - now that I've forced myself to use it for several days, it's actually pretty good. I would hesitate to call it 'lightweight' though, and just like any tiling wm, it requires a lot of config to make it comfy.
I think I'm going to stick with gnome since I don't want to spend hours tweaking configs to get things just right, but I guess if you really need/want a tiling wm and don't mind the absence of a few ease of use additions, it's a fine choice. -
@djsumdog feeling guilty? LOL
-
Another funzie to occupy your mind as you try to sleep tonight - an errant gamma ray burst would flash fry the planet as well....probably wouldn't know it ahead of time either, and I'm not a dentist or whatever, but I think the survivability of something like that isn't terribly high.
I've also heard of this as yet hypothetical type of matter known as "strange matter" or something like that. If an asteroid made of that stuff hit us, we'd be ultrafucked. It's pretty much Ice 9 from Vonnegut's "Cat's Cradle", but with everything that is made of molecules. -
You'll get there if you stick with it. I started maybe a little more than a decade ago, and I still feel like you could fill several oceans with what I still have no clue about. Your self-appraisal kinda reminds me of what it was like at my first couple of jobs, and it can be tough if you're in a less than awesome company that doesn't enable you to grow professionally. On the other hand, I know for my part that I was pretty impatient with my career. Just be open to learning as much as you can, but definitely do not quit your job right now in this market! Even if you're "encouraged" to use GPT at work, if you have time on a weekend, it can be helpful to follow up on things that you used or saw or heard about. Curiosity can end up opening a lot of doors in this field.
-
@Jifuna Hyprland doesn't do a single thing that DWM or BSPWM don't already do, but people evidently go apeshit over it because it has "smooth animations". wOoOoOoOoOoOoO
-
@Demolishun LOL it's really not that bad. Maybe I'm just a dipshit, but after remapping a couple of keys, it's rather pleasant.
-
Microshit's endless integration of spyware bullshit has a computational cost. Funny how they get to rip people off and absorb other IPs (and re-implement them poorly) with really no repercussions until the EU gets involved. I thought we had antitrust laws in America, since JP Morgan, the Rockefellers, and all of those people that Upton Sinclair wrote about.
-
Yeah, it' s pretty fucking ridiculous. I only get taunted with "you can make this all go away with youtube premium" 17 times per day as well. My VPN helps, but I can't install one on my locked down computer at work.
-
Good for you! It's bad for you, but I also think that working with shit code is bad for you, and all I long for is the sweet embrace of oblivion after a week, or sometimes a day, or even a few hours of tolerating other people's bullshit.
Cheers! -
I guess @dfox must be alive, because image thingies are working again? That's good! Congratulations @dfox!
