For experienced developer I don't see the point of doing simple take home test in interview. The test is too small and can't cover many things, why don't the hiring manager look at my github and believe I can deliver the simple test and pass it without doing it? Screw crud test that's for junior.
I think company want to hook you and make you spend time and prevent you to interview other companies to avoid competition. That's the only reason I can think of from their side.

For those who coded js for years. How hard to pickup python backend? I refer js/ts node because I don't have to do context switching7

My company is trying to convert all dev to become ts/js fullstack for all product and future projects. Which to me make sense because we don't have hire php/ruby/java/pyhon dev and no backend js dev have excuses not to help to fix frontend bugs now. So much productivity boost and cost saving for the entire org!6

I always jealous dev from the US. They do simple html job but get paid higher than me who have to learn as much as most of the other guys in US.
Isn't it fair my small salary should allow me to use jQuery?8 -
Working on maintenance suck, but that's why most of the software developers do. Stable job and higher pay. Mundane tasks like fix bugs or modify small part of the software.
Working on an idea is interesting in startup. You don't see shit code and code from the ground up. The work is creative. But the pay is low because the company is not profitable.
