We will no longer be accepting contracts which have an internet explorer or edge support requirement.
All of the front end devs are going hysterical and celebrating 😂 🎉🎉19 -
Fuxk yeah! My code works! It's 2AM, I'm happy and there's no one around, so I wrote a poem :-P
What was once impossible,
Is now close to completion,
Thanks to my debug statements,
Which now await their deletion.31 -
Today I had a reflection with an client and they surprised me with a present. They wanted to thank me for the hard work and effort I made.
Wauw! It just keeps me motivating to work hard and keep my clients happy!5 -
Finally!
I installed gitlab at our company. I ranted about not using any version control whatsoever in the past but now it happened!
My boss wanted to see a project I was working on for himself so I copied the project to a usb drive and gave it to him. I used git for the project locally and I told him to use this too if he changes anything. And that it would be a great idea to have this centralised on our server. He agreed and I told him he just had to give me the order to implement it. He was like "go ahead" and one hour later we had a gitlab up and running.
We will have some internal training to do and then we are in the 21st century!
I'm so happy right now.9 -
I started studying computer science 3 years ago as a challenge for myself, try something new, do something I knew absoluty nothing about.
I was always the girl who didn't know as much as the rest. I took longer than everyone else, made worse solutions. I always felt like a burden.
Yet today, for the first time, I really felt like a real developer at my last week of my summer job. Explaining a five year older collegue (with a lot more (web)dev experience) about design patterns, git, c++, and helping him to understand and use it properly.
Apparently I was smiling like an idiot because he asked me if I was making fun of him, while deep inside I was just so happy to be helpful.. 😊18 -

So my employer just offered me a 57% raise out of the blue!
Last Friday, I got a meeting invite from the CEO (its a small 15 person company, so he looks after most of the management stuff) titled "{{myname}} - Salary Review". No agenda there. I was fuckin scared that maybe my salary will be chopped short due to the virus and shit. They recently let go of one guy in my team, and are about to hire two new guys. Also, my last raise was this January. So I didn't think any good could come out of this meeting.
I joined the zoom and he asked if I was happy with the current salary. I said "yes" like an idiot, but added that the prices in my country are rising a lot. He made smalltalk on costs of groceries and Corona and my family, and that was it. 57%.
I was smiling like a dumbass at the end of the meeting. This guy is like the Hyman Roth of this business.14 -
Guuuys! I made it! I just got my first job in IT as a Junior Sys Admin at a Security/Pen Testing company. So happy right now. Just wanted to share with you. :D9
-
Feeling blessed, left the army after 5 years, 3 deployments, to attend 3 years of computer science school and get a stable lifestyle.
I've got a supporting girlfriend, mentally never felt better, and for the next 3 years, this is my seat and view in class !
Happy coding all, and have a nice day✌️8 -
I really hate how people see Bachelor of Computer Science as a meme.
I think it's because everyone who has a Computer calls himself a IT-Expert. So today on Xmas family joined for a meal, we talked about work and study and stuff...
Auntie: "So why do you need to study to Operate a Computer, my Son built one by himself without studying, you should study something solid like economics"
First I thought this was a meme, later I found out she was dead serious.
All the math, physics, scientific research, papers, software engineering just to operate a computer 😂
I'm not gonna call her names, because it's Xmas so:
father forgive them, because they don't know what the fuck they're talking about.10 -
I'm not sure if this counts as a rant, but I'll proceed anyway.
So it's been very long since I've used AngularJS and recently I had to use it for some new project. I had to pass data across the states without showing it in the URL. Remembering solving that that thing before, I straight away Googled and got a Stackoverflow question with accepted answered. Delighted, I've gone through it and realising that I didn't up vote that answer, clicked on the up vote button. But as it turns out, I CANNOT up vote it. Not because I didn't have enough reputation, but because it was MY OWN ANSWER!
I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad :/:/:/8 -
Two days ago I had a particularly retarded conversation with my father.
Father: Have you heard of [insert some language that will probably die in half a year]?
Me: Never heard of it.
Father: I talked with a friend yesterday and he said people pay millions for it.
Me: And?
Father: You have to learn it.
Me: *At this point trying not to facepalm* I don't think that's a good idea.
Father: Why?
Me: *begins explaining how the industry changes quickly, underused languages die out or how there simply aren't many materials on them*
My father then started shouting at me, saying that I don't listen to him and that his friend (who does stock trading for living) knows what's trending right now. Couple that with the fact that I was sick in bed when this random event happened, it led to me wanting to, ever so slightly, fucking kill myself.5 -

What do you appreciate the most when you code? A vertical ultra wide monitor makes me soooo happy. :) */10 -
Hey fellow devs,
I'm proud to say, that today I've passed my final step/exam of my apprenticeship.
So now I'm officially an IT-Specialist - Software Development or "Fachinformatiker für Anwendungsentwicklung" in german.
I'm so fuckin' relieved and happy that this chapter is now finally closed and the real fun can begin!
My new job - indeed the old one with 4x payment and just a 32 hour week instead of a 40 hour one.
Now I will cheer and drink as much whiskey I can find out there! :D
PS.: This baby (pic related) was my presentation device today. One member of the commission had to laugh, a ranter as it seems! ;)17 -
When I was 12 I started programming by makimg games. Then when I was 18 I stopped with a game dev study (because of personal reasons). I went to a web dev study and found work 4 years later. Today my company hired a new sales person who has worked at a few game dev companies and she said she will try to put me on game dev projects.
Im so happy now :D4 -
All love to Android community.
I made a parental control app where parent can control child phone using SMS. Also I published research paper on it and gonna do presentation on March 23.19 -
So my girlfriend decided to surprise me with this cake... I'm happy with it but I feel violated as I'm PHP guy not .NET13

It's Friday, and I'm working from home. What better way to start the day with gulp and coffee with icing on donuts... Happy Friday to all :)16

I received my Driver's licence today. Yayy!! (I had been waiting for it for quite some time, worried if it will ever reach me)
Then I casually asked the postman. If there was any other package for me, because I am expecting a little blue package sent from US.
And he said he'll go back and check.
A few minutes later the door bell rang again 😍🤩
Here they are 😋.
I hope, even the devrant stickers reach me soon 😣.40 -
The 256th day of every year is celebrated as Programmers’ Day.
Interestingly, 256 is the highest power of two that is less than 365.
It falls on September 13 during common years and September 12 in leap years.
This day is an international professional day recognized in many companies and organizations.
It’s even officially recognized in Russia as the “Day of the Programmer.”3 -
!rant at all
My boss might quit. He's apparently tired of the abuse our job entails.
I'm not seeing much "abuse" except from him.6 -
Just got a email from interviewer, thanking me for introducing him to Devrant!!! Called me for a second interview.
***Told him about DevRant in first interview ***11 -
Over heard my coworkers talk about my open source project: "ya that's the best there is"
I am just so happy 😊😊😊4 -
Was asked to help a team of interns in a remote country, finish an app. Not only were they terrible at literally every aspect of development, but were arrogant and argued their "new" ways were right.
Spent weeks on the project being nice, trying to help them, sending them links to standards and documents, pointing out unit tests shouldn't be failing, everyone needs to have the same versions of the tools etc. You know, basic shit.
Things got quite heated a few weeks in when they started completely ignoring me. Shit was breaking all over the place and crashing, as I thought we were going to build it one way, and they went and built it another.
Was practically begging the team architect and my manager for help dealing with them. Only reply I got was the usual "were aware of the problem and looking into it" bullshit.
Eventually after the app was done, a mutual agreement was reached that the 2 teams would split (I maintain they were kicked out). All the local devs were happy, managers had mentioned how difficult they were and it would be great for us to finally work on our own.
So I thought everything was fine ... until my end of year performance review came along.
Seems I'm quite poor at "working with others" and I "don't try hard enough with others", it was clear I was struggling with the remote team and "made no effort".
WELL FUCK RIGHT OFF
Not being cocky, but I've never had anything like that in a performance review for the past 7 years. I'm a hard worker, and never have trouble making friends with colleagues. Everyone in the country complained about these remote fuckers, even the manager, who I begged for help. And the end result is I need to work harder.
I came in early, stayed late to fit their timezone, took extra tasks, did research for them, wrote docs. And I was told to work harder.
Only reason I didn't quit, was my internal transfer request was approved lol. New team is looking at projects orders of magnitude more impressive, never been happier.3 -
Dear Windows,
All I wanted was for you to live in harmony with my Arch install on my laptop. I appreciate both of you guys for different reasons. You guys did okay for for 2 weeks. Then, when I was using you, you blue screened quickly and rebooted.
On reboot, the BIOS couldn't boot. I reboot again, but instead of my normal GRUB menu, it just goes straight to you. I call for Arch, but only you responded.
I understand you are a bit possessive, but you really need to learn to play with others.
You are in time out until your brother is fixed. Now nobody is happy.10 -
The whole family is going out of country tomorrow. You know what that means?
It means 24 hours coding and no one to disturb 😎1 -
Just got moved from contractor to full time at my dream company halfway through my contract. On top of the world right now 😀5

I can't believe how quickly this community has grown! Absolutely amazing to see so many like-minded people I can relate to 😊. Before devRant I had (I shit you not) 1 fellow dev that I could talk to.. Now I have a ton 😄5

What a fucking day!
So some many years ago, we placed a small and useful piece of code into a MySQL Query, which prefixes the order ids with a string and returns the value.
Basically
SELECT
CONCAT(“ORDER_PREFIX”, LPAD(order.id,5,’0’) AS order_reference
Now many years ago when this was a simple solution to a system that wasn’t expected to be running today, all went well, except today.... today that fucking line exceeded 5 digits
😓😍😓
I don’t know if I should be ashamed, or happy right now, a totally unfuture proof query that just rolled that little too far, or the fact that I’ve watch 100k orders role through this system.
Now for the clean up crew to do their job.... oh 🙁 that’s me too.
Now this doesn’t affect the order ids... so that’s something but external systems rely on that guy 😭5 -
HELL. YES.
I wrote a complex grid rendering system in c++!
It accepts pixel values and * values (Grid values)
Works very similar to WPF grid, which I LOVE.
The few lines of code needed (On the front end, at least) to do this are in the comments. VERY FUCKING HAPPY RIGHT NOW.13 -
Happy new year fellow coders, developers, may your next deadline be reasonable. Have a productive night with less bugs and more coffee!1

I was made owner of the GitHub repo in my team.
I am the second guy with rights to merge to master.
Soo happy 😬7 -

Share your VS Code installed extensions here.
Mine is: Alignment, Better Comments, change-case, Colonize, CSS Peek, DotENV, File Utils, GitLens (my favorite!), Gulp Snippets, JS-CSS-HTML Formatter, Laravel 5 Snippets, Laravel Blade Snippets, Material Icon Theme, npm Intellisense, Numbered Bookmarks, Path Intellisense, PHP Debug, PHP DocBlocker, PHP Intelephense, PHP IntelliSense, Prettify JSON, Quokka.js, snippet-creator, Vetur.
Feels like there are redundant extensions here that I need to uninstall.
Happy Friday and Cheers! Excited for Infinity War movie! 😎18 -

Merry Christmas

Or happy holidays for the people who hate Christmas for what ever reason.9 -
Welp, I've become a supprter. :)
After a long time of thinking and considering, I think it's the best way to give back to the community. Being part of this community gave me a place I was lacking in the real world: a place to speak with other people about pretty much everything from pets to memes to just basic dev stuff, and more importantly, a place that I felt wanted me here. The community here is kind and just all around cool and I wish to continue to see people enjoy being here as much as i do. :)
Thank you for everything guys!1 -
Goals for 2019
- get a Raspberry Pi
- Land a job in development
- graduate
- get my driver's license
- buy a car
- learn a new language (any suggestions?)
- rant more on DevRant
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE 🎇🎉11 -
For some people thanksgiving is for spending time with family. For me it is helping grandma with all of her technical issues.1
-
You know it's the holidays when you go to your parents house for dinner and fix the router, your mom's phone, your dad's iPhone, the smart tv, your brothers email account reset, your grandmas prehistoric phone and then you go to your wife's family for dinner and you find yourself fixing her mom's iPhone, her dad's laptop her uncle's tablet, her cousin's ps4 and every freaking thing that connects to the Wi-Fi. Well, it's the holidays, at least there was food and drinks all around...Happy New Year everyone 🍷rant happy new year tech support holidays family tech support family at least there was food and drinks2

Interviewed a guy for a senior technical job. I worked hard on making my own questions that hopefully make the interviewee think instead of useless gotchas.
He told me at the end that they were fun questions and this interview was loads better than the rest who just ask questions off of Google.
Having had my share of shitty interviews, this makes me feel so good 😊11 -
I had to reinstall windows today in school. I seriously didnt want to touch that bullshit so i did nothing. After 10 minutes teacher came to me handed me an USB labeled freeBSD and pointed to an Rack server and told me just one word "GNOME". Now thats an way of making me fucking happy.
Really that made my day just looooooooooot fucking better. Also i had it all set up faster then all my classmates the damn windows.8 -
You know it's gonna be a good Friday when the dev team takes a work trip to the store to get beer.
Happy Friday everyone!3 -
Me and my stress ball are starting to get quite ready for Christmas :/
Maybe after the holidays the smiley will be back?
Happy Holidays fellow ranters!
P.S. Don't code too much during your holidays3 -

I went to the tech department at my school to get some solder and a few offcuts of wire, but some generous person gave me 6 raspberry pi's that he didn't need anymore! But that's not all, he also gave me 5 rangefinder sensors, 4 motors, a 4 digit 7segment display, a couple of sd cards, a few other various sensors, and some wires
Oh, and I got my solder, too :)5 -
TikTok's rating dropped from 4.5 to 1.3 stars in 3 days in India. TikTok owners surely will be cursing the stupid TikToker who waged the war between TikTok and Youtube xD25

It feels SO good to have nothing to lose on your system! Code on GitHub, pictures on an external disk, documents on Google Drive and OneDrive and bookmarks etc. on my Google Account. If my PC were to crash completely then I wouldn't be as lost as I'd normally be :D3

Not exactly dev related but possible because of my job.
After an interesting and emotional change during the last 0.5years, I am still here in
Ireland.
My job is good, could be better but definitely the best I’ve had so far..
I’m only here because of my job, it wouldn’t have been possible (at least not as easily) if I wasn’t a software engineer.
One of my dreams I saved for for years in Switzerland finally became true with just saving 4 months over here because the government doesn’t take everything you have left at the end of the month.
I finally got an old Jap...
This is my 1997 Toyota MR2 I bought on Monday..
So happy..8 -
Yaay, after several hours of tinkering I finally got a simple chat over TCP working in rust. I'm happy, I like rust :)16

Wishing all the developers out there a very happy and prosperous new year. May your code always compile on the first try and your age gets incremented without bugs.7

!rant but emotional
Work is significantly less terrible than it could be because I have the best teammates and i can come rant here and be understood. My non tech friends just ask why I don't quit if I "complain" so much. My dev and tech friends are all together at another company and have releases every week they're working on. I appreciate you all and am happy I found this community. 💚1 -
Boss just gave me a bonus out of the blue for my "continuous show of dedication and engagement". Not sure what I did specifically to deserve it, but pretty happy nonetheless!
Not really a rant, I just wanted to share. Spent the whole day smiling like a retard :)2 -
My stickers have just arrived! So happy! Also just over 50++ remaining till stressball! So excited to be part of this! Thanks @dfox3

I’ve been trying to use Debian without a graphical UI, at least for the most part. I use X window to run firefox since I feel that is the best way to browse. But simply using the terminal for almost everything feels so refreshing somehow.
I start to find these gems such as a music player for the terminal that works really well, my HOME area feels so clutter free and I feel like I finally can finely control and tune my system to a much larger extent. I’m coming from an extensively cluttered windows system so just seeing a few things makes me feel like I can finally focus.
For me it feels like I’ll have an easier time managing my projects by setting up github in a good way in HOME. I’ve been putting more time into my vimrc to make it better for my different workflows and general productivity (and for the sake of minimalism trying to keep it mostly to hand written stuff). I’ve also been looking into Lutris to be able to fire up games or use wine for other necessary tools that I might need during cowork with others.
Generally I believe that if this test works out I’ll truly consider to make this my main OS. The clutterlessness keeps me much more distraction free. The terminal environment make me read about and learn of new ways to do things. And most of the tools I use can either be used from command line, multiple ones with a multiplexer and in the case I truly need to use GUI or want to play a game I can just fire it up on demand.
*happy*
Do you guys have any distraction free OS or setups that you want to share? Anyone with a similar experience of revelation?10 -
The project I have been working on on/ off since Christmas is finally interesting enough to show off!
In short, it's a faux GUI system in the console, with a lot of advanced features that you would see in web browsers and other professional GUI systems.
Most of the core items are now implemented, and it's only time to make it functional in a usability sense.
Here's the tech demo; readme.md is a HUGE essay about everything that's going on. Plus some pretty damn good instructions on how to get it running:
https://github.com/AlgoRythm-Dylan/...
Happy to hear your thoughts!17 -
I'm loving my new job. Not for the salary or perks. Just for the simple fact that my developing opinions it's been taking in consideration!1

Finally, finally, finally! My very first app with React Native is up and running. I know the hard part comes now, but I'm so incredibly happy, considering that I didn't even think I would start developing an app until two weeks ago, let alone learning React...6

Been studying front end development on my spare time for the past 8 months and tomorrow I got a interview for a position at a company as a junior Dev.
Even if I don't get it, it tells me that I'm on the right direction.
One can change their life by putting in some work.

ÆÃÅĀÀÁÂÄ!!!
I'm so thrilled!! I am not a GUI person & I am rly rly slow & bad when it comes to minor changes on that part..
But today I finally finished GUI, client logic, server side logic & db shiiit for some audit interface I was making.. ..from scratch, meaning it wasn't some changese here & there, no copy pasta no nothin.. I did the whole thing by myself..did a lot of things for the first time & it didn't take me ages!! Wiiiiii!!! Having a total 'I iz so proud of myself' moment!! // I usually am not the boasting/confident/happy with myself type..3 -

I was a tad drunk last night because the week was... more than exhausting.
I felt like a pinhata yesterday - pretty beaten up and gutless.
Woke up this morning still a lil tipsy and decided to just be happy and don't give a damn.
Decided to take a hot bath to get nice and relaxed.
My smartphone decided to commit suicide and slided in the bath tub while I was in the kitchen making coffee.... And water was still running.
:) Bye bye smartphone, no more annoying messages.
While bathing, I relaxed a bit too much I guess.
Felt a bit of pain but then so much better because something in my back "plopped" back to where it belonged I guess?
I managed to rip off the shower curtain with my foot since it was a very short moment of "fucking frigging shit that hurt".
During that moment I also created a great flood, bath room is still wet...
And the funniest thing is: I don't give a damn.
Smartphone is definitely dead, ordered a new one, will arrive next week.
Guess I should stay the weekend on the couch before I accidentally blow up the mansion.
:)
I don't know where this good mood is coming from, but damn it has been a long time.18 -
Guess what came in the mail today!
Thanks @dfox and @trogus
Now all I've got to do is purchase some hipster glasses and develop the ability to grow a mustache!9 -

Wish me luck! Just landed a new exciting job as full stack developer! Finally I get to do what I truly want!!!

I got recognized!
I'm new here and was mostly learning, but my team pushed through some bad issues and I got recognized as well. Even for helping whatever little I could.
For all the rants of bad bosses and clients and work. Here's a happy one. :)
I'm in good company in this company. -
Just bought my my first laptop!
I've had a PC desktop but this is the first laptop of my own! What do you guys recommend I should install from a programmer perspective? Any software you can't live without?25 -
So happy right now!
I just finished a project which I started today.
It is a java bytecode class/method/field renamer. You can rename those things inside a jar file. It has a nice dark-themed GUI and it works great :)
I'm just happy because I couldn't find something like this on the Internet and wanted it since I started learning programming. Also I am happy because I did it in 1 Day and learned so much about the Java Bytecode!
It's using ObjectWeb ASM btw.7 -

So I finally bought a laptop! Dell Inspiron 3580, specs:
15.6" screen
Intel i5 8265
8GB RAM expanded to 16 manually
256GB NVMe PCIe M.2 ssd as system drive (ofc)
Added Crucial 1TB SATA ssd for good measure
Fucked up the stock Ubuntu 18.04 with libinput-gestures I think, reinstalled Ubuntu 18.10, got Steam, bought Half Life bundle, installing it right now.
Also VSCode, CodeBlocks, IntelliJ and PyCharm are on this beast and I'm ready to rock.
So happy!9 -

I am a Windows user and have been using Mac for last 3 years. I knew SSH for a while, but used it just to connect servers when no other options were available.
Today I just found that I can connect to my Mac from my Android phone using SSH and can run any command I want. I am now running builds and deploying code from my phone since then.
I don't know why I am feeling this happy 😁1 -
Today was very good day for me:
one of my friend said he is going to buy new phone as his older phone is unrepairable (Android failed to boot). I took the phone installed twrp - unlocked bootloader and then flashed cynogen os and boom! android booted up.
Now they think me as a genius and says i wrote that Android OS, i tried saying its just a hack due to open source but they still think me as a HACKER! :)6 -
Here comes the sleep time again. Now I will think about all the amazing stuff that I can build tomorrow and make it big out there just to wake up and do the same thing again and again till I go to sleep and repeat this cycle. Peace.

Happy Christmas fuckers.
I don't normally swear, but I'm with family in Ireland and I'm not the designated driver for once, so fuck it.
Have a good one!1 -
Another year is ending, slowly, without much of a hassle.
Here's to all those performers who are still waiting for the phone to ring, to all those students who thought they would be earning by the year end. Here's to that father who couldn't get his dying child to have one meal with him. Here's to that daughter who could not inform her imprisoned father that she has made it to the final. Here's to that 70 year old man who is still waiting for his son to return from the dead, to that 12 year old child whose parents just split up, to that girl who thought winter would be unbearable. Here's to that silent lover who is yet to tell the girl that he exists, to that girl whose new year text to her crush failed to yield more than a blue tick. Here's to that couple who had their child, to that scientist whose data sets are turning out to be promising, to that scholar who made it to the last of the Interview rounds.
Here's to that cancer patient who went into remission.
Here's to that boy who got a Hi message from his crush, to that girl who is getting married.
Here's to all those promises and resolutions. Once again. The ones we couldn't keep, and the ones we kept. Here's to that promise that our GPA shall rise again, that all the incomplete MOOC courses will someday be done.
Here's to the beauty of fantastic beasts, Star Wars, sense8, Westworld and all the films and TV shows that made us happy.
Here's to life that goes on. Uninterrupted. Fearless. Still.
Happy New Year2 -
story which happened yesterday and ended in mixed emotions
big changes in our company were announced, non tech employees changed positions, new business plan, people changing teams, shattering my plans of relocation back to my home country on the end of this year... told my manager I'm not happy, scheduled a call with manager on the highest position I'm in contact with
the call BB - big boss
BB: things are changing, it was decided like this, must be like this, can't do anything with it, other manager bla bla
ME: yes, but you knew I wanted to relocate, now my only option of relocating is to leave the company
BB: well, yes, thats unfortunate, but we would like you to stay, manager bla bla about growth, good work environment
ME: yes, but you're leaving me in this team as a only developer with people who not just don't have any tech background, they don't have a clue about dev stuff, like... at all * me = very not happy *
BB: but you know all our systems and work processes which will stay in place and you can teach new people, we need you * stopped, because probably realised what he said *
ME: * arrogant little laugh * well, i mean, I think i can live with it, but really wanted to talk about this, so you guys know I don't agree with what is happening here
BB: * sigh * ok, well.. yes, I mean, we were counting on this, we can give you a raise, but not much, maybe x%
ME: x% sounds good, I guess I can learn to live with this situation for a while
* everybody laughs *8 -
I had 2 features I coded pushed to prod today at work! It's my first week at my new job. It made me realize how toxic and detrimental my last job was to both my self esteem and career. I'm so happy!!2

Designed and written > 1.3k lines of code this week and 98% test coverage..
CI and CD set up and working..
Was a Long week and very exhausting but I feel really good now, happy to start the weekend with whiskey and beer.
This is gonna be one of my most productive sprints so far..
Hope you all had a successful week as well.
Happy Friday 🍻
And please don’t start with any „that’s nothing, I’ve written 5k lines ones“ comments.. It‘s professional, stable, optimized code and code I can actually be proud of.7 -
Happy Story,
Today I got a slack message from someone saying that she now reports to me. I had a big grin on my face. I have just been working at this company for 4 months. I hope I do well. -
When your happy your rant has enough votes to earn you a stress ball only to realize that they raised the limit since the last time you checked...6
-
When I see bullshit mostly about tech-related stuff, I usually imagine myself doing this. It makes me happy and in some situations almost tolerant to idiotism.
-
• Learn new things!
• Continue my programming projects (mostly C#), and eventually publish them!
• Create more programming side-projects!
• Create more music, of various genres, and finish unfinished tracks! (I love music 💙)
• Buy a violin, or another instrument! (I already play harpsichord and piano, and I love them both)
• Buy a new PC setup! (maybe?)
• Get a driver's license!
• Create more music sheets!
• Create more custom maps, on rhythm games! (like osu! or Cytus / Cytunity)
• Make new friends, and meet with my older ones more!
• Go to places, new and old!
• Open myself more to others! (I'm kinda shy)
• Do my university's exams, properly!
• Do my conservatory's exams, also properly!
• Try drawing!
• Try all sorts of new things!
• Get a cat into the family! (I love cats, but I never got one because I don't know how to raise them, yet)
• Be more confident about myself!
And... yeah, I guess that's it :D
What about you?
Have a happy 2019, everyone! 💙2 -
Made my Final Year Project report without copying stuff from internet. Get's 79% in plagiarism check whereas only 20% is allowed for us. Fuck! I should have just copied stuff from internet instead >:(7

Got myself this on new year. For all my data. Hope it's a good decision!
Happy New Year everyone ^_^ -
A little and sweet rant about RANTS! What the hell guys, I can finally think about a social network happily, but I have the feeling that I'm not a part of this awesome community :'( I mean, everyone is getting problem with some clients or whatever. But I'm currently unemployed, and never really get through that kind of problems. Ok they lied to me on the job, ok I paid 15000 euros 2 years of school where there were still people who doesn't care about the work, ok I left my girlfriend, ok I have a fucking hard time to go back to work with that... But all of this is not really juicy, my life is simple and mostly happy :'(
Maybe I should hope that my next job will be with stupid people :o
I love you guys <35 -
>>Struck on a stupid concept with very little documentation.
>>Searched for days, finally frustrated and fucked up.
>>Started searching for libraries, found a decent one with good documentation and even a sample usecase.
>> library handles my application completely fine, me happy and motivated again :D
>>opened the library's source code, that was again very nice and simple.
>>Now learnt the concept and implementing it in my app natively . Even opened some issues in the creator's library
>>thank you github :) -
!(isRant(thisPost));
Submitted my third pull request today in just a couple months as an intern, got told I'm doing a great job and already being considered to move to a more in depth dev team. Honestly a dream come true. Great company, great people, and I have a solid shot at a REAL full time dev position after college. I'm so happy man all that work finally paying off. -
Finally I got a dream job! I'm so fucking happy 😁 That was my dream since I went to high school and finally I achieved it. I put a lot of work into it and I knew it will happen. So guys follow your dreams, it's an amazing feeling when they finally comes true 💪💪💪3

Not a rant, but i'm proud of myself :3
to make a long story short, i wanted a wrapper for a api (https://esi.evetech.net), but there were none that were updated or actively maintained, so i built my own. the first version had all the non-authed endpoints, and 2 days ago i finally got all the authed endpoints, plus added in features like a config file (for storing the token and project name) :D
I'm one happy fox rn!8 -
When I was in my final year of B.Tech.
There we had to do one major project so me and my friend both decided to build QUERA project for college. So as planned we informed to our superior and we got clean chit.
But later on we didn't know what to do??
That time my friend also didn't have programming awareness so days were going on. And the final month came and till then no progress.
My F was suggesting for purchase.
I was little bit worried too.
Then I had decided to build.
So me alone started building without any copying of templates from web(Actually at that time I didn't know that we can copy templates from web) so stupidly I was building templates using HTML and CSS. Parallely I was doing with php and phpmyadmin(SQL queries).
Seriously it was in PHP.
So this was running for approximately 14 days.
And believe me in that 14 days I was just doing project with all this stuff (obviously eating & 5 hrs sleep).
So, here the fun came
I was near to completion of my project but on last day I was not feeling well so I went to medical for some tablets.
And you know what, I was applying CSS in my mind on that tablet cover which was in rectangular shape.
Literally I was applying :D
Finally, I submitted project and got A+ for that.
Happy ending!1 -
Very proud to work at my company
They've just been voted for one of the best places to work in the UK. Hard worked studying paid off.1 -
A Merry Christmas to everyone here in DevRant community. I wish for you a season of goodwill, peace and happiness. May your frustrations coupled with depressions reduce! Also Happy Holidays. 😊😊😊

I have big plans for 2020:
- learn a js framework (angular, react, vue, etc)
- publish a mobile app
- contribute to open source
- start blogging
If I complete only one of these before 2021 I'll be happy 😊3 -

I have been lurking around here for about a month. Finally decided to write about how devRant motivates me. Whenever I read stuff I don't understand it makes me realize I've got so much more to learn. Happy new year :)1 -
I've been working for two days (after work) on my blog idea...
Man I forgot how fun it is to work on your own projects, and the stuff I learn at the moment... It is insane!
I am currently a very happy developer, hopefully I can keep this up.
I still have to look into automated unit testing and code formatting checks with github though, cant wait! -
Received a Full Stack Radio t-shirt and some new stickers this week, from the creator of Tailwind CSS. The shirt was printed in the wrong size; though I'm already happily expecting one in the right size, such things happen, and they fixed it before I even received this package (USA2BEL, 2 weeks in postage...)
Happy accident along with this; double the amount of stickers!! :D (and of course, double the shirts!)8 -
So I was just about to tell you all how happy I am that it's my birthday, until I stumbled upon @DarkMelchiah s last rant, and suddenly I just felt like I couldn't write it any longer. It simply felt wrong. So to you @DarkMelchiah, I wish I could export some of my happiness to all of your classes and functions.
And also, hey, it's always okay to tell us about the sad things that happen! That's the wonder of DevRant! We're not just here to rant with you, we're here for support as well.
Btw Dark, my cat died last year, though I knew she would over a year before it happened. I totally get how you feal, but at the same time I guess I don't. All the goodynessieness to you!5 -
In Swedish the phrase "Jag har lekt med docker hela dagen!" is just one letter from meaning "I have been playing with dolls all day!". This is a pointless observation but I illustrates how happy I am after a whole day of configuring a project in docker. With good progress and learning. Not that I enjoyed playing with dolls as a kid but with with Airfix model airplanes. But I am sure the joy is much the same.6

Happy New Year From Singapore!
In this year,
May all the Devs out there be able to code peacefully everyday without being disturbed by that annoying coworker.
May all the Devs out there be able to get clients who understand our pain.
May all the Devs out there be able to work on the projects that they love while getting paid proper amount.
Cheers! Love live devRant and it's community.1 -
YAAAY,
finished my first small project today!
It was the final project of my semester in coding and because coding isn't the main focus of my studies there's not much expected from us - new Date, sorting a list and using local storage were among the more 'complicated' things we learned...
So most of my mates just develop/design a small portfolio website or something but my team (2 others and me) wanted to do a little more so we built a progressive web app, complete with service worker for offline functionality and so on, that can take pictures using your camera, save them to IndexedDB, display only the images the currently logged in user actually took and much more... and today is the day all bugs (that we found...) are finally ironed out!
Now I know that still is just the very beginning but now I want to learn mooooore!
Am happy, had to rant. :D1 -
Day 7 of devWholesome...
Happy November guys! It's a new month which means new goals! Set some goals for this month that you want to get done. See how much you get done this month. Mark your calendars for deadlines of things you want to get finished. Don't forget to keep up with the work you already have. Comment below what your goals are this month! And as always make the most of your day! -
More beer and more music. Who needs more in life? 😌
Maybe I don't understand myself. But I understand that I'm happy. And that's what counts15 -

Y'know, up until now, everyone was just bragging about who has the most ++s... (I'm kidding, that didn't really happen... I think...?)
But now that we have ++s in binary, we can literally brag about who has the LONGEST... string of ++s.
Not... something else. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Oh well, size doesn't matter anyway.
Happy Easter/April Fools! °u°2 -

I'm astounded. I just took a crack at some PHP logic that would be easy for a lot of you but hard for my math-and-logic-challenged brain.
It worked.

The perks of working for a .NET shop:
1. 130€ of credit to burn on Azure every month, so I can run some long builds there, to have VPN/proxies for free that are not easily blacklisted and whatever else I can think of. Today I set up a VM for my wife to RDP into, so she doesn't have to do her job search on her company laptop (which is the only computer she has right now).1 -

Keeping the clients happy is very important but when you have alot of shit to do, being a glorified helpdesk bugs me the fuck out. My inbox is screaming at me: "Please no more... Master please end me!".

I just finished this app I was working on, an app which I was supposed to be working on with a friend who never committed. It pisses me off that he didn't put in any input. We were supposed to work on different parts of the app. I had everything planned out, on how to make a certain function. But right now I'm just happy because I have no idea how I got it to work without the functions and at this stage I don't wanna check ¯\_(ツ)_/¯1

Finding a good Linux distro, part 3:
I am happy now. KDE Neon running very smoothly and...now you certainly will not believe me, but with least memory. 400MB of RAM after start up. That is stunning! Stock Ubuntu runs about 800-900MB on the same machine, holy shit!4 -
Working on FCM today and actually this is not rant. 😃 🎉
Google documented everything correctly and everything is understandable. -
I’m always tired all the time. Depression and what not but today I am TIRED
Had an interview that requires vanilla javascript but I suck at algos even tho I was getting it done till time ran out. We gelled tho so I hope they see potential and move to next round.
But the good news is. I had a follow up interview based on a challenge. It’s the second I’ve ever had and I did well this time.
So much so that they’re booking another interview for tomorrow.
So I’m done with the technical portions of the process.
This is the first time I’ve gotten this far and I’m so happy. I’m hoping really that this is the one cause I doubt I have the energy and will power to keep going though the processes.
I’m so excited. It’s as if all my work is slowly showing and I’m getting closer and closer
Wish me luck guys. Hopefully I ace it as I come across well In General Chats.
This is my last application. If it doesn’t work I think I’m done with dev life and job hunt.
Fingers crossed I’ve found the one1 -

just finished our group software project in uni (5 students, a way too complicated game) and just got the highest possible mark of all!!🤩🤩🤩
the project was focused on having a working, bug-free game, so yeah our game was UGLY AS FUCK😅 ... but 99% no bugs😎

Mmmm new screen protector and case for foon 😁
Old screen protector was burnt and nasty in general, new one has a matte finish. The case has the same colour as the back, but doesn't show how I let my phone drop and crack the glass, huehue

With very little experience I have become head of software integration on a multimillion dollar state contract. (Whole other story on that part) had a meeting with the states mainframe and DB departments this last week after having worked in person with these guys for three months. They told me that I am by far their favorite employee of a vendor they have worked with. I have put a lot of work into understanding their workflows and making sure we have minimal impact on their systems. Evidently this is a rare occurrence for them. I am just so stoked that I am having such a positive impact on them while still getting my job done. Still have a long way to go, but it is awesome to hear I am at least making a good impression for my company!

No ranting here but
Started doing web with POCO in C++. Could not be as pleased as now. Syntax is cool, framework is cool, GNU Makefiles are cool, aclocal isn't, but... Go to hell automake. I am happy, helping a friend and enjoying what I feel as the chilliest programming language is becoming the way I do web. -
Heya! I've created something in C# you might find useful (though it's simplistic, and not my idea).
It's a program which has a progress bar for the current year, one for the current month, for the day, hour, and minute. Here it is, if you want to try it: https://dropbox.com/s/...
Based off the Mac version (not made by me): https://twitter.com/year_progress/...
Which costs $5, by the way... While I uploaded it for free u.u
What do you think?
Also, there might be an easter egg for 2019 ;D
Happy new year, everyone! 💙2 -

OMG fuck yeah!
Today I was workin' on my CSS framework, made a couple of cool functions for generating hsla() colors with a customizable lightness and opacity. Using calc() for multiplying the default lightness by the value passed in parameter to the function.
"It's working perfectly in Chrome and Edge, cool! Now let's check in Firefox, but if it's okay on Edge, I'm pretty confident..."
Except, that's a failure: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_b...
At that point, I started to rant alone. Properly. Like: "why this feature is still not implemented, people are waiting for it since YEARS!! Fuckin' browsers war!!!"
I was already thinking to drop a big angry post on here, when I noticed something : https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US...
So I update Firefox Developer Edition and, IT WORKS!
This feature was needed since years and the FF team brings it just when I need it. What was the chance ? I feel happy :)
Conclusion: sometimes ranting is the easy way. Calm down, try harder and you can find the solution!1 -
Screw it! Finally moved out of toxic, demotivating, slow paced, but really comfortable comfort zone(large company).
It's been a month, relatively very happy, latest tech stack, fast paced environment (literally no one has time to play politics or gossip), with 40% hike. I can clearly see I'm burning out but at least I'm enjoying work.
Down the line I'm sure I appreciate myself for this big move.2 -
I finally have a server at DO. First time I had to set up a server on my own. Now I have an Ubuntu 14 running apache2, php5, memcached, beanstalkd, supervisor, sftp, vhost-manager, etc...
I really like the whol env and learning but I have to admit, I'd really like to see some GUI for all these things. At least for host management... And honestly I could use some advice on a proper web server setup.3 -

At last! After my phone got stolen last year, I finally have a new one, so I can use devrant again. Feeling like arriving home again :-)6

Just realised - even if I are usually on collision course with central IT they save me a whole lot of "can you help me with this?" by not letting us do anything ourselves. Printers, new software, settings, startpages, drivers, browsers etc. Everything has to go through them.
Add the fact that the last Windows machine I've had was a P4 when XP came out and I'm in the clear for a whole lot of helping out. "Sorry but I only use Debian and OS X, but you could ask our IT people" :) -
I'm alone most of the day: my housemate is at work this morning, family scattered around the country, recently moved to a new town.
I had a great night last night and today is fantastic too. I'm not writing a single line of code today or doing anything but running a few laps later... maybe.
I don't even feel sad in the slightest.
Happy nondenominational festive period guys! -
So, finally deployed project on heroku instead of 'webspace' or 'cPanel File Manager'. So fucking excited and happy that boss agreed for this. After countless explanations why it's heroku is better, he agreed. 😍

Google is like the parent or teacher who is never happy with your work. I've never seen something so unattainable in a world where non-technical clients rely on CMSes, theme templating, server-side page rendering, and external scripting as Google's mobile PageSpeed recommendations. Especially under the Lighthouse audit in Chrome Inspector. Unless I go back to pre-2001 web development methods, and never have external scripting, and make every page have its own CSS file with only critical path CSS for each page, I will never get all the high scores I'm expected to have to rank well for mobile. When and how will Google get called out on this B.S.?9

I'm so happy. A month ago I started my apprenticeship, today I published the first version of my application for my company in the Google Play Store.
It was a hard time, but it was very interessting and I never thought that I can code an app in this short time (I also had 2 weeks school in this 4-5 weeks).1 -
Many years in the same company waiting for an improvement in my career. Result: role change from Solution Manager to ICT consultant (better before) and Salary increase of 20% (better now). It was a great christmas time and good to had some days without a computer and without code but im so happy that i have to work today

I was trying to run an algorithm since yesterday as QT was throwing error. But I tried it on Spyder and I don't know how but it just ran smoothly.
I don't care why it was not running, it ran and I am too happy. -

Looks so much neater now. -
I have nothing to rant about today :D.
I'm too happy for anything to bring me down,
PM said i only have to demo tomorrow morning.
A nice 2 hours before work ends,
I'm hyped up on redbull and wifi is'nt bad today.

Happy new year! Happy new year!.....and so onn.
