Q: Has anyone heard anything about Google leaving Kotlin and Java behind to use C# for Android development?

I was talking to someone who told me this yesterday. Of course I dnt believe it, nor can I find anything on that BS he was feeding me.

That whole-ass 1 hour convo was BS from start to finish.

There was more crap said, but I’ll spear you all the details. I just need to know if this is even remotely true. I’m sure it’s not, but he’s convinced it is. 🙄

    It is certainly possible to dev in c# for android, but Goog ain't ditching java.

    Didn't heard of that

    C# can be used for cross platform Android and iOS apps. Look for Xamarin and Maui. But it will ultimately run under Java and Obj C. Google and Apple are not gonna ditch their platform for Microsoft.

    In Microsoft's wet dreams will other monopolistic conglomerates willingly depend on their ecosystem. I think Google would rather develop yet another Java clone.

    @MaddScientist Xamarin has been killed by MS.

    @lorentz yup.
    Even if C# wasn‘t owned by MS, going from Kotlin to C# would be an absolute idiotic move.

    Good rumor. We should meme it. See how far it goes.

    Thank you all for chiming in. Dude seriously believes this. 🤦🏾‍♂️ I can’t tell him anything. He went on to say, “it’s gonna be like how Unity got rid of JS in favor of C#.”

    @DivSyntax there is a java - javascript joke hidden in here somewhere

    @lorentz maybe he did actually confuse Java with JavaScript?
  • 0
    @Lensflare that would make the proposition about android even funnier

    @lorentz I mean he might have assumed that Unity was using Java in the past (same as JS in his head). And then it would be the same switch from Java to C#.

    I think it's safe to assume the person you talked to is spreading false info to appear well-informed. There's a lot of that going on.
