I don't have a problem with Type-C ports, but hell these adapters are expensive.
Luckily you don't have to buy the official ones.

@deadlyRants be careful about other ones. Not all USB-C cables/adapters are equal http://blog.fosketts.net/2016/10/.... Never have I ever seriously looked at Linux...

@T-Hammer Well to be fair Microsoft's official accessoires for the Surface Pros aren't any cheaper.

The official miniDP to HDMI adapter costs around 30€(or more), I bought one for 4€ and it works flawlessly.
And yes, the type cover is good - but the price makes many mechanical keyboards look cheap.

I definitely like Microsoft's Surface products though, they start to show Apple how it's done and entry level prices aren't that crazy.

Apple innovated something? The only thing they can innovate is the zombies to spend their money on aging technology.

This is apple style, but fan keeps buying it, so why they should change?

If apple was a physical person... Well let's say they wouldn't make it to tomorrow 😡

You people really need to stop bitching. Everything is going to be USB-C, for a while you'll need a few adapters, so what?

And if you don't like the features or the price... Don't. Buy. It.

@FitzSuperUser I've seriously seen nothing but whining since the release. People act as if they are obligated to buy it and they are entitled somehow to having their favorite set of features. It is ridiculous.
My comment was aimed at OP btw, hadn't seen other comments yet.

It's called money and it's also called. We want to make thunderbolt for eveything. So no need for any adapters later.

@GriffinSauce you are entitled to having your favourite features especially at that price ? If I gave you a baseball when you asked for an apple ... Wouldn't you be a little annoyed ?

    @Deco ha ha!! So true!!

Early adopters always pay the highest prices. It's the cost of being the first. But we need them. They run the progress. They pay a lot for new things which makes them cheaper to produce so more people can buy them.

Of course I don't mean the one in the post should be called progress. It's just more like a mistake. Especially with the lightening in iPhone while putting USBC to Mac.

My issue is that they release a system with controversial features, but do nothing to improve the base system outside of physical size, and then charge too much for it.

@FitzSuperUser your analogy illustrates how flawed your thinking is. You are not promised one thing and then get something else. When you go to buy the latest mbp you will know *exactly* what you're getting. Down to the silicon even!
What is actually happening is that you are dreaming of an apple, go the the sporting goods store and buy a baseball, and then get angry at them that it is not an apple.
You're confusing your own desires with their promise. That is unreasonable and unfair.

@byisk moving to a multipurpose port with a consistent open standard like USB-C is progress.
Not having a compatible port on your other (earlier released) product is unfortunate and poor planning or integration, but the next iPhone will for sure have a lighting to USB-C cable in the box.

@GriffinSauce but your wrong , apple promise speed, they promise "the best" In design and quality all of it top of the range, their company has implied that for years and full on Saud their tech is better , they say if you buy apple you know your getting a quality product.

Is this the case with any product they have made in the last ,5 years ? No it is not.

I know that if I had 10k the apple version would be 5 times slower and that's a pure fact.

The same with their new products , if I buy for the same money a PC... 5 times faster.

@FitzSuperUser sigh. This is a different argument and you know it. But I'll bite: Apple is not just selling you performance. It's also a luxury product.
5x the performance, sure, in a very ugly big heavy tower. Not in the same small and well designed hardware you won't. There will be some that rival or surpass it but not by multitudes.
Don't get me wrong, I have a Windows pc as well and it's great, but so is my mbp (aside from the staingate issues that they are currently fixing)
  • 1
@GriffinSauce it is the same argument ? And yes you can find laptops just as sleek as this that are faster. Last longer I'd be happy to show you, Alternatives to apple.

Second if you want to get down to their client base ... I.e designers people who love art film and business users in alot of cases not normally programmers, why have CPUs not up to the task . Why remove features from their free tools especially in video in recent years.

Apple are becoming more and more foolish I didn't like them when Steve jobs was around , but at least I respected them. They had their area their place it made sense, but every apple guy I've spoken to all have the same opinion, and that is ... Wtf is apple doing.

    Now, imagine this in Brazil!

It's a conspiracy by Microsoft. They did it with Nokia. Infiltrate the company, turn it to shit and buy out it from competing with their products. Apple is next

    I'll go get my tinfoilhat.

@deadlyRants I like the old IBM Thinkpad x41 which you could use like a Surface but guess what... You could install LINUX! <3
  • 0
@pchater you can do it on 99% of Windows 2in1, surfaces included
  • 1
@dontbeevil There's a difference between installing Linux and using it.
If you plan to use Linux on a Surface Pro you should expect wifi issues, graphic glitches, no pen input, problems with switching between touchscreen and touchpad, ...

I used Linux on my Surface Pro 1 for more than a year. It worked, but not without problems. And forget about the digitizer, it'll only cause more trouble.

@pchater One of the reasons I'm thinking about a (Lenovo) Thinkpad soon.
Decent Linux support and a case you can actually open yourself sound great, especially now that my SP died.
