AAAAAARRRRGGHHHH FUUUCKKER!!!
The new MacBook Pro with touchbar is ABSOLUTELY SHITE.
I can't tell you how many times I have accidentally touched the escape key with my pinky while typing. Also accidentally touched "send" while in apple Mail halfway through writing something.
Apple clearly did no user testing with this as I have googled around and many folk are having the same frustrations.
I've just typed a massive note into jira and towards the end my pinky hit the escape key and I lost everything!!
FUCK CUNT BASTARD WANK!!!12 -
Apple replaced ESC and Fxx keys with a touch display stripe, that will at first show these buttons but eventually replace them with notifications and etc. As Vim user and step-debuggers addict (Eclipse, Firebug, etc), I just realised that yes, they can be stupid enough to do worse than removing the headphone jack from the iPhone.
https://youtube.com/watch/...
The touhbar concept itself is.brilliant, but ffs, couldn't they just ADD it???17 -
I started working in a company where they use scala/akka stack, that requires a huge amount of hw resources to compile and debug, so my boss bought me a new laptop: a MacBook Pro. I came from a Dell with Linux Fedora, and now:
FUCK YOU APPLE YOUR COMPUTERS ARE SO SHITTY
JUST EXPLAIN ME WHY THE FUCKING KEYBOARD IS SO A PIECE OF SHIT WITH THE FUCKING COMMAND KEY
FUCK YOU COMMAND KEY
FUCK YOU MAC OS WITH YOUR SHITTY POLICIES YOU CAN'T INSTALL THIS PROGRAM BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO ENABLE UNKNOWN RESOURCES
FUCK YOU BREW AND BREW CASK WHAT THE FUCK OF TWO SHOULD I USE
FUCK THE STUPID TOUCHBAR I WANT THE FUCKING ESC, DELETE, F1, F2 AND SO ON
FUCK YOU APPLE YOUR MAC IS FRAGILE AS FUCK I CAN'T THROW THAT FROM THE FIFTH FLOOR OF MY BUILDING LIKE A THINKPAD
FUCK YOU SAFARI THAT YOU DON'T REFRESH THE PAGE WITH F5
I have a small gif for you just to explain how much shitty is Mac OS17 -
MacRant: was waiting for a new macbook pro release for awhile to upgrade by old laptop (not mac). Watched the release, had very mixed feeling about it, but still ordered (clinching my teeth and saying sorry to my wallet). Next day looked into alternatives, cacelled the orded to have more time to think, now deciding... I mean cmon, no latest 7th gen processor, no 32gb memory option, 2gb video is ok for non gaming, the whole "big" thing is TouchBar that I DON'T F* NEED. They should drop the "Pro" and name it "Fancy Strip".
So I looked into alternatives, and Dell XPS 15 with maxed spect is twice as juicier, and has not a touch bar, but the whole touch freakin 4k screen, for the less price :/
Just wanted to rant about the new macbook's spec and price and see what you all think of macbook vs alternatives?16 -
What cheapest macbook model has touchbar? This isn’t for me, I’ve read like 2016 2017 model that has touchbar and then I read that it has been discontinued8

I've kinda ghosted DevRant so here's an update:
VueJS is pretty good and I'm happy using it, but it seems I need to start with React soon to gain more business partnerships :( I'm down to learn React, but I'd rather jump into Typescript or stick with Vue.
Webpack is cool and I like it more than my previous Gulp implementation.
Docker has become much more usable in the last 2 years, but it's still garbage on Windows/Mac when running an application that runs on Symfony...without docker-sync. File interactions are just too slow for some of my enterprise apps. docker-sync was a life-saver.
I wish I had swapped ALL links to XHR requests long ago. This pseudo-SPA architecture that I've got now (still server-side rendered) is pretty good. It allows my server to do what servers do best, while eliminating the overhead of reloading CSS/JS on every request. I wrote an ES6 component for this: https://github.com/HTMLGuyLLC/... - Frankly, I could give a shit if you think it's dumb or hate it or think I'm dumb, but I'd love to hear any ideas for improving it (it's open source for a reason). I've been told my script is super helpful for people who have Shopify sites and can't change the backend. I use it to modernize older apps.
ContentBuilder.js has improved a ton in the last year and they're having a sale that ends today if you have a need for something like that, take a look: https://innovastudio.com/content-bu...
I bought and returned a 2019 Macbook pro with i9. I'll stick with my 2015 until we see what's in store for 2020. Apple has really stopped making great products ever since Jobs died, and I can't imagine that he was THAT important to the company. Any idiot on the street can you tell you several ways they could improve the latest models...for instance, how about feedback when you click buttons in the touchbar? How about a skinnier trackpad so your wrists aren't constantly on it? How about always-available audio and brightness buttons? How about better ports...How about a bezel-less screen? How about better arrow keys so you can easily click the up arrow without hitting shift all the time? How about a keyboard that doesn't suck? I did love touch ID though, and the laptop was much lighter.
The Logitech MX Master 3 mouse was just released. I love my 2s, so I just ordered it. We'll see how it is!
PHPStorm still hasn't fixed a couple things that are bothering me with the terminal: can't reorder tabs with drag and drop, tabs are saved but don't reconnect to the server so the title is wrong if you reopen a project and forget that the terminal tabs are from your last session and no longer connected. I've accidentally tried to run scripts locally that were meant for the server more than once...
I just found out this exists: https://caniuse.email/
I'm going to be looking into Kubernetes soon. I keep seeing the name (docker for mac, digitalocean) so I'm curious.
AWS S3 Glacier is still a bitch to work with in 2019...wtf? Having to setup a Python script with a bunch of dependencies in order to remove all items in a vault before you can delete it is dumb. It's like they said "how can we make it difficult for people to remove shit so we can keep charging them forever?". I finally removed almost 2TB of data, but my computer had to run that script for a day....so dumb...6 -
Apple please... I just love physical keys, and you just make a pointless touchbar...
I really don't know the position of a macbook pro. I guess mainly graphic designer or programmer will buy macbook pro, and the touch bar feature is a completely pointless to us.
Not to mention that you replace all the USB port to a really "popular type C USB"5 -
Anyone have one of the new MacBook Pros with Touchbar? I'm looking for some project ideas to work on.
I already am working on a project for the Pi-hole project (network wide ad-blocking) but I am looking for some other good ideas. I think Apple's view of the Touchbar fell short, but as developers I think it opens up a lot of possibilities to use it as a great information/monitoring tool.
I am also still learning Objective-C and Swift so I am a newbie.5 -
This is to anyone that has a MacBook Pro that has a Touch Bar.
When you’ve programmed on the MacBook have you ever implemented the Touch Bar’s accessibility into the application? And is it easier or more out of the way to try to implement it into the application. Also could non OSX related languages be used or can only Swift, Objective-C, etc
Only curiousity, my MacBook Air doesn’t have one, and I’m gonna eventually upgrade to a pro and I’ve heard good things about the Touch Bar but not about using it in applications.3 -
Should i get a macbook pro no touchbar 2017 with 512 GB SSD or is 256 GB fine enough? Only for coding primarily focused on mobile development16

#need_help
Dear all,
I'm trying to make a choice, a choice that won't make me regret it for the few years advanced, I'm in a dilemma, I don't know which MacBook should I get for my everyday life, I currently work as an iOS developer (Learned iOS using all kinds hackintoshes, yeah I never bought a single apple computer, yet), and always have motivation to learn new stuff (from machine learning, to web development, to making games with unity (or whatever engine), hell I even like to design stuff from time to time using Photoshop, sketch, I sometimes do video editing using premiere and after effects), and I yet have to choose which laptop to get, I got only one week to make the choice so...
Here are the options:
The new MacBook Pro 2016 (Touch Bar edition):
Pros: 'Latest' and 'greatest', have thunderbolt ports which makes it (sort of) future proof, TouchId for unlocking the laptop using a fingerprint.
Cons: You need a damn dongle everywhere, no escape key (Which I use for the autocomplete feature in Xcode), and this touch bar (Which I really have no idea if i will ever use it other than the nyan cat app for 5 minutes), plus I heard about battery issues with it (don't know if they resolved it or not), fucking huge trackpad, and no fucking MagSafe!
The previous model MacBook Pro 2015:
Pros: Ports, lots of them, small trackpad (Which you don't have to worry about your palm screwing up your work), and MagSafe! (Which I honestly don't know if it'll make any difference for my usage)
Cons: has old CPU from Haswell generation (I know that it won't feel different, it's just that I like to have parts that are the 'latest')
Now some questions, for people who have the old MacBooks and new MacBooks:
For the ones with old MacBook:
If you were given the choice to replace the old MacBook for the new one for free, would you go for it?
After all this time, how's the battery performance? is it still great from the time you bought it?
Foe the ones with new MacBook:
Does the huge-ass trackpad interfere your work day?
Do you miss magsafe to a point where you really want to throw out the new laptop and go back to previous model?
Did you get used to carry out dongles everywhere?
Did you like the TouchBar? Does it help you in your everyday work? from designing to coding to whatever, do you think that now you can't live without it?
How's the battery performance?
Is programming on it joyable? or the new keyboard and touchpad are just a meh?

In addition to that I would love that you guys detail me your experience and answer some questions that I posted above, I would be very, very grateful.2 -
I've left my MacBook to technical assistance for the thrid time. I've bought it on December (the touchbar model, on day one, arrives on December). I paid a lot for it and since then I got s broken key on my keyboard and a faulty display.
Now I got my battery swollen.
Fucking Apple. At least I'm happy with the OS and everything when it's hardware-faults free.
Oh yeah and I switched to MacBook for the construction quality... Bitter irony.
I hope this is the last fucking time, damn.6 -
who else is kinda disturbed and somewhat annoyed by the new apple touchbar?
i just want my function keys back😩
wtf have you done apple😞5 -
Why is it whenever I'm on a conf call I slide off backspace and mute myself on the stupid MBP TouchBar? Subliminal sabotage 😂1

So I got the new macbook pro 15 with touchbar .... this is my first macbook that I have ‚issues‘ with.
* the new butterfly keaboard doesnt feel as good as the old one
* ... abd its friggin loud!
* the keyboard backlight just randomly drops out and forces me to cold reboot WTF??
* they bigger left/right cursor buttons make it so hard to feel where you are, that I constantly confuse up and down
* the touchbar is basically unusable for a keyboard centric person like me. It forces me too look down to the keys!
* I constantly hit the esc bc im used to have one finger there to hit it if needed, but now im forced to hover it bc otherwise it is pressed
* and why of fucking why did apple remove magsafe??? Now i dont even see anymore if is is being charged without turning the screen on
* i hate the usb ports too, why not even add a free usbc to usba port? (Well, i guess bc it would make the macbook even more expensive... free wouldnt be free anyway i guess)
It is way more powerful though, but the time i would buy a personal one is over and will probably never come back.
Im a happy hackintosh user btw 😅3 -
Well... mmc.exe got blocked today after an update...
Microsoft management console that is... And a bunch of other stuff with it... Like device manager....
Eventually resorted to gpedit and even so I still can't print (🙃🙃).
Getting a fucking Mac with the idiotic touchbar and the ridiculously low ram tomorrow (for real).
Love having an Alienware with a 6700hq and a 950 pro that I can't take advantage of because of the OS fucking up all the time...
P.S. Yes I also have Linux on it but you can't really enjoy the.... 👽 side of things with it!2 -
I wished to buy a MBP for myself, but this new version. I am not going to need any of that fancy touchbar and all. But again the previous version is too old. Looking for other options (lenovo preferably)4
-
So apparently the most recent version of xcode is buggy? I just got the new macbook pro with the touchbar and was excited to dive into ios app development. Should i wait to download xcode until the issues are fixed? Any xcode users out there?1

Someone experience with running Ubuntu on a MacBook Pro late 2017 touch bar and all.
I don’t care about the touchbar but I just want WiFi, keyboard, mouse and battery life to be acceptable.2
