qwwerty11433yGiven the fact Samsung afaik has the biggest XDA community why not to just replace the OS?
But check if there are any valuable features, that might get lost by removing the stock. (like Sony, which removes DRM keys for proprietary features when you unlock a bootloader) -
kamen69883y@qwwerty That, plus the fact that for most of the stuff like this you'd trip KNOX, meaning you can't ever get the phone back to stock afterwards - which sucks 1) if you have to resort to the warranty and 2) if you want to resell the phone.
-
purist12163yThe fact that it is not even cheap like Xiaomi to begin with but still resorts to installing bloatware just infuriates me.
-
Kyu9620213y@GiddyNaya Just wipe everything and install Lineage OS + MicroG (if you need it) and a custom recovery.
-
kamen69883y@JustThat Too bad that they started getting a
bit greedy too... 150-200 EUR hike in the price of the latest models just for camera tech I won't use anyway... -
kamen69883y@JustThat How is it in terms of planned obsolescence? Looking at reddit, some people reported issues after upgrading to 11 and had to roll back to 10.
-
hjk10157313yI don't know what it is with Samsung. They make great hardware but everything one owned made by them was botched/crippled by software. Wish they still made the ultrabooks. Put your own OS on it and you are golden.
-
purist12163y@Kyu96 and we can kiss goodbye to all bank apps and UPIs for good coz they wont recognize the OS and wont install coz security.
-
purist12163yMy camera is suddenly insanely slow to take photos after Android 11 update. Fookers cant keep their shit together for 3 full years.
-
Kyu9620213y@purist Nope. I usw banking apps on it. With magisk you can hide root access and they work normally
-
qwwerty11433y@purist tbh i haven't ever used a banking app and have no intention doing so in future. So while it might be a problem for some, it might not be a problem for others.
-
kamen69883y@qwwerty It becomes a problem if you want to resell the phone afterwards even if it isn't a problem for you personally.
-
qwwerty11433y@kamen again not a problem for some of us. I've used all my phones till they died, so never had to sell. Also what is the problem stating "banking wont ever work" when selling? True, it might discourage some buyers, but i don't believe it would be impossible to sell it.
-
purist12163y@qwwerty i used banking apps as an example. Some of my workplace apps wont work with even phones like Xiaomi.. let alone custom OSes
-
kiki352933yAlso you drop it and it’s dead 10 out of 10 times because of how thin and fragile the glass is.
Not to mention that Qualcomm models are sold in USA exclusively, other countries get crappier Exynos ones which overheat, throttle, don’t hold the charge so well and literally lose Bluetooth, WiFi and cellular connections periodically (especially S20) -
To everyone i can only recommend the fairphone. Proud owner of the fairphone 2 that I own for 6 years and still does what I want. And it is the fairest piece of hardware you can currently get in the world. With it you are sure you are not supporting slavery. Unlike other brands like the ones already mentioned here.
The fairphone 3n is a lot faster and a great camera, and no bloatware!
