10x0 = 0
50 + 0 = 50
50 + 7 = 57
57 + 2 = 59

7 + 2 = 9
And if I'm not mistake, PEMDAS is also 59 for this. -

@C0D4 PEMDAS is same as BODMAS with just different terminologies.
The answer for both, here is same because we don't have division.
Else the order could change the result, because in PEMDAS, Division comes after multiplication unlike BODMAS. -
This is not even ambiguous, if you don't put brackets, multiplication is supposed to be given priority.

Maer16883yBODMAS and PEMDAS is exactly the same thing. Only BODMAS uses "brackets" instead of "parenthesis" and "order" instead of "exponent", because compicated words are evil.
There is no difference in prioritizing division or multiplication. You can (obviously) describe a division by X via a multiplication by 1/X, therefore either approach is equivalent. -
@Maer consider a/b*c
If you do multiplication first, you end up with a/(b*c), which is the incorrect answer.
You have to be careful with non-associative operations. -

Isn't it because we reduce fractionals first? So four halves equals two, times two equals four. -

2*1 or 4/2 would both get you the correct number. This is why it was important to show your work in primary school. -

4/2/2 = (4/2)/2 ≠ 4/(2/2)
4-2-2 = (4-2)-2 ≠ 4-(2-2) -
@sariel you can divide and multiply at the same time as long as you start from the left
4*2/2 = (4*2)/2
But you can divide first as well
4*(2/2) -
Maer16883y@electrineer You're right. My statement is only correct if displaying division by X through multiplication by 1/X.
However the general statement BODMAS and PEMDAS being equivalent is still true. Both of them actually state "Multiplication/Division" and "Division/Multiplication", meaning neither prioritizes one over the other and the order of resolving these operators with regard to priority is from left to right.
But yeah, (a/b)*c is not quivalent to a/(b*c), that much seems clear. -

amusingly if someone failed at a certain question without training themselves to think more deeply or be more careful, sadly after some time passes they'll do the same thing.

my mom is a math teacher and she chose to stick to this stage of learning, because kids were getting to high school without knowing this stuff
I ran across this middle school question on Facebook and the most common answer is 9.... I try to have faith in humanity. I really do.... just so its clear (I assume if you're a dev you understand the order of operations and I'm not talking to you), the answer is 59.
rant
